Ok so I'm a big geek and I've been into computers since my family first got one back in Windows 3.0 days. Here's my current desktop computer specs:

Pentium III 833 mhz (That's like the only thing that hasn't been updated in the past 3 years)
nVidia GeForce4 128 mb Graphics Card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card
Sound Blaster Inspire 6.1 speaker system. (w00t!)
52x24x52x CD-RW (Just got it today! :D)
And a craptastic KDS 17" monitor that I want to get replaced with a LCD or something.

Edit: Oh yeah, and 320 mb DDR RAM.

Tell me yours so I can be jealous! (Or laugh)

And Bob, don't post. We know you're going to make something up to look cool.

My main computer is a 1.67 gig AMD Athlon, 1 gig ram, 64 mb Radeon 7500, 20" Sony Trinitron (the monitor makes the system) cheap speakers........

Doesn't sounds impressive, but the tower used to house my 950 mhz amd athlon, but when I blew up that motherboard I replaced it and the processor. Why I didn't start with a new case, I'll never know. I got a year old system in a 3 year old case. So I went out, bought a brand new fancy case, and stuffed my 950 mhz in there with 512 mb ram and a 32 meg Nvidia TNT card that I had laying around. Got a 15" monitor (ack I'm blind!!!!) and viola kids and my girlfriend has a computer too. But, uh, girlfriend hates it so I'm on the crap computer usually. Oh well. Women.

I use an Amstrad 464 primarily. Heavily modified of course. R-type rocks. Still takes an hour to load off the tape though...

Honestly, my computer isn't that bad. Nothing has ever broken on it, I still have the same keyboard and mouse as I did when I got it, I've never replaced anything on it (My brother put in a little more RAM I think it was originally 32MB)

Because of course, that's the only thing I do... My entire life is purely gemstone, I've never played any game with visual graphics, never used it for anything other than basic internet. I have a good system because I use it. Gemstone is just one use of it

Oh, not as many FPS on a plasma as on a CRT :?: I bet it'd still be fine. Mines a good one.

I think you have a little bit of screen envy, bob.

and Morrowind eats up memory like crazy.
don't even bother trying it without at least 256 RAM and 1 gig cpu

Who cares what kind of computer you have, someone always has a bigger and a better one than you do. All I know is my computer has Windows ME so no matter what kind of hardware I have, a frigging Commodore would kick my computer's ass.

not having a great time here... for someone that doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, and has a girlfriend that he loves more than anything going to a school 6 hour away, the things to do are limited. I always hear the best part about college are the drugs, sex, and booze, and I don't want any of them. I'm having a pretty hard time adjusting

Lord Whirlin, those are by no means the best part of college. The best part of college, to me, was the opportunity to stretch my intellect, to learn new things, meet new people, and to begin to grow toward the person I would be. You need not adjust to the ways of others. You have your own way, and it is best for you.

"Unto thine own self be true..." holds much truth. You will not regret the choices you are making. I did not participate in such things, either. That was not my purpose.:)

I haven't been keepin up on video cards, but you say ATI is goin down? Bankruptcy or what? Going to eventually get a 128 mb card and since I like my Radeon 7500 was just gonna get another ATI. But Nvidia GeForce is the way to go you say?

If you're into hardcore gaming, I say go with the video card that has Microsoft's support.

All games nowadays use DirectX, and Microsoft exclusively programs features to take advantage of NVidia video cards.

It's like the Mac vs. PC debate. Yeah, technically the Mac is better, but the Mac has such little support that no one bothers to take advantage of it and use it to its full potential.

With ATI vs. NVidia, it's the same thing. ATI is technically better, not THAT much better, but better. However, since Microsoft and many other gaming companies specifically take full advantage of NVidia video cards, games run and look better on NVidia cards.

And no, ATI is not going bankrupt.

Gokkem

Doh Microsoft and Nvidia are in bed together. Gotcha, thanks for the info.
