Since people keep asking me to post trip photo's I'll just post random things here from my trip instead of clogging up the picture thread. I'll warn you all now most of them are probably just boring site pictures from various tourist traps or architectural sites. If I can remeber the names of the places I'll include them otherwise I'll come back and edit them when I find my notes.

Enjoy em if you like em, if you don't ... oh well :)

PS. Yea I probably wont be in 90% of these photos.

These are my 1st view of Italy from the place, the view of the immediate area of Garbatella in Rome from my hotel balcony, Basilica at St. Paolo, and the 1st view for the colosseum from the metro station.

Circo Massimo (chariot race place), baths of carcala inside, baths of caracala outside, Pyramid at the entrace gate in the interior .. i think it might be the exterior... gate of rome.

I don't know the name of this place but when you goto the wall/momument to the knights of malta theres a keyhole in this door that you can go utpo that when you peek through it has a framed view of st. peters cathedral. So the 1st picture is people going upto the key hole. The 2nd even though you cant see the actual cathedral top is just to give you an idea of the experience. The third is me at an overlook in some peach garden down the street looking at an unframed view and looking down on most of the city by the river. And the last is the back entrance to the forum across from the colosseum.

4 Random pictures from St. Peters

the 2nd I tactfully refer to as the pope-in-a-box.

Ok that's it, I cant take it anymore. I swear to god by next summer I'm going to Italy. I can die happy when I've seen the colosseum and Pompeii.

View of the river, setting up for a free concert in Navona(sp?), Pantheon oculus, Fountain at Trevi daytime well without the water anyway since there were like 10,000 other tourists in the way.

View from the top of the spanish stairs, view looking back at them from the bottom (gotta love the advertising), Fountain at Trevi at night with water since most people have left by this time, I forget what it's called but its basically a tomb that is for a bunch of italians who got fucked up for messing up a nazi tank then they basically blew up the site with the bodies in it. It's really sad but I thought it was interesting.

I must still be in "work" mode. I had to rotate these because I always crane my neck to the side and get dizzy.

I'll skip over the next few days because they are basically photos of just low income housing projects in Rome that we visited as precedents for the work we are doing here. But heres a church done by Richard Meier which I thought was pretty cool in his typical I'm going to blind the world starch white style. The thirds of Vittorio Emmanul (I totally butchered that spelling but I'll fix it later when I'm more coherent.) And finally .. a big hooray for Fascist Archiecture and the EUR!

More Eur this statue cracked me up, Now for the reason I went to the EUR the museum of roman civiliazion. The models there they have of rome as it grows are just amazing. This one is ancient rome and I'm too lazy to look at my notes to get the time period. But its old school. Closer view of a portion, and even closer still.

Nice pics

The real reason I wen to the EUR was for this model which is in a building basically by itself and is generally why people go. Its sort of famous but not really. Its a model of Rome in the age of Constantine. They've refined it everytime they discover something new. Its about 30'x30' if I had to guess. So heres 4 pictures of it. Okay I lied I'm posting 3 of the model and 1 of the sign so you can read it for yourself.

Blurry St. Peters at night, Blurry drunk photo of something that cracked me up but you can't really see it. In Piramide behind the .. Pyramid. There is a long strip of bars/clubs. We were at this straight club called the Coyote which was fun but it was across the street from the "gay village." The gay village is insane from what I could tell. It was a large complex packed full at 12 euros ~ 15 bucks a head cover charge. But the sign for it is an egg and a like 20' high sperm. Anyway at this point I'm starting to run out of photos because while I have ~500 pictures from my week in rome I have like ... 30 from Napoli. But Galleria Umberto is really cool its even cooler at night but I didn't take any pictures and I'm too lazy to get my roommates. Anoher bad pic of Umberto.

If you take the finculare upto the top of the hill in Napoli its no longer a shit hole so heres some pictures from the top.

The next 2 pictures are the outside of Pompeii. I was too cheap to fork up the 10 euros to go inside. So our group paid a euro a piece to send 1 person inside to take pictures for us since we didn't really care. I have yet to get those photos. So after she came out we all went down to Sorrento to see the "beach". Sorrento is one of the most beautiful towns I've been in. But the beach is lame. But heres a couple shots from Sorrento too.

My last set for now because I havn't uploaded my new photos of Napoli for the sitework we are doing. Basically we are part of a workshop here on how to improve certain spaces which have been damaged by neglect and urban sprawl. So the condition me and my group decided to work on was the plight of the people and how the interact with residual space and found objects. So the 1st is a guy we found living in a shipping container as we walked the railroad tracks. I don't know why but the guy selling rims on the side of the road cracked m up. The third is below the viaduct. This is the general Napolitan idea of trash collection. But the Viaduct is actually sort of itneresting if you research it. It's basically a lawless zone. If you keep walking down you goto the "recycling center" which is basically just a series of chop shops. But at night it turns into a big venue for prostitues. My general feeling about Napoli.

Very cool pictures.

The one fountain shot a few slides up is awesome.. light shining down on the statues.... I may have to pull that one for my background.

I scrolled through all that and didn't see a hot chick. It saddens me to think that Tijay took no picks of the hotties.

Pompeii was very cool. You can easily find pictures on the web of what you'd see within but there's definitely a certain feel to the entire place you get only by walking through it. At the same time, it doesn't feel like you're walking through streets and houses that were built two thousand years ago. Though the bodies do tend to reinforce that point rather well.

Still, I got bored after an hour or so much as I do in museums. I'm like to touch and play with things and there's not much to do in Pompeii other than wander and look. Glad I saw it though.

More random photos from my trip. This time It's all Siena, Venice, and Rimini.

The 1st one is a stop at Piazza Pieze or something like that. Its a mountain town on the way to Siena from Napoli. Had a pretty awesome view. So the 2nd photo is a stitching of the view from the a parapet that I did halfassed. I don't know what the 3rd one is but its from the same place. The 4th is a view of a few of us at the campo here in Siena having dinner.

Venice was fun this was Per Rialto. San Marco is Venice. When we were in venice we went 'camping' it was the most white trash camping experience ever. But this was my cabin. If I remeber right this is me and my roommate in the picture. The 4th picture is the sunset in Rimini.

Sean

I'm fairly sure theres no real chronological order to my next few posts but anyway here they are. Rimini which is part of a 15km beach span at night. Rimini sunrise on the beach. Since I got yelled at for no hot laides in my photos heres one from the beach at Rimini. I woke up from a nap on the beach and she was sunbathing next to me. It was glorious. The 4th is back in Siena. The heaviest suitcase ever.

The tent I camped in across from the beach in Rimini but really I slept on the beach the camp site was really more for shower and toilet facilities. The gondola ride in Venice. The people who went on the trip with me riding the bus to florence.

Heya Tijay .. these pics are great. I spent nearly two months in Europe after I graduated from college and it was one of the defining experiences of my lifetime. It looks like you all had a blast and I'm definately jealous!
