First time since upgrading to Win 8 that I tried to log in using Lich. It's not working. My technical know how with regard to Ruby is novice at best. I can follow directions, though. Any ideas on how to get this to work with Win 8?

Alright, I got it to work. Had to click on the install tab, click reinstall as admin....and then it worked.

I'm curious if this is a Windows 8 specific issue, since I haven't heard of anyone using Windows 8. Is your Lich folder somewhere besides your Documents folder or Desktop? If so, this probably isn't a new issue. Lich can't function if it can't write to its directory, and it can't write to Program Files or places like that without running as admin on Vista and Win7. Also, you really shouldn't run Lich as admin. The "restart as admin" button is only there so it can mess with the registry.

Crap, that's bad. It's the only way I seem to be able to log in with Windows 8. It was never an issue with Windows 7, ever.

Alright, my Lich folder appears to be in my Downloads folder. I'll move it to my documents folder if it should help. Which apparently it should. Even so, this was where my folder has been since day one and no problems before. Will move it and see how things progress.

My brand new computer runs Windows 8. I have to run it as an administrator as well or it can't launch Stormfront. My lich folder is right on my desktop.

Yeah, I'm with the others, I just keep hitting, "Restart as Admin" before selecting my character.

From what I've noticed, it's about downloading and executing the .sal file from Simutronics moreso than any permissions within Lich itself. If you attempt without administrative access, it never downloads the .sal file.

I've found a funky glitch with Ruby 1.8.7 (I think, I just restored to the factory image and didn't get it again until installing Ruby) that's triggering page up over and over again. I've also got one of those stupid MSI keyboards with the LEDs so maybe it's just me, but has anybody else had any weird behavior like that?

Nah Grey. More often than not, when I find I have locked keys, it's due to the keyboard and not the OS. Double check your mouse scroll wheel, Page up key, or NUM lock and 9 on the keypad.

Or try unplugging it and plugging it back in... the equivalent of turning it off then on again.

Yeah, I still have the issue as well. I just figured I'd use the Admin option until word is it is fixed.

Back in windows 7, there used to be an extension you could add to the shortcut to have it start in admin mode... does that still exist for Windows 8?

Ok... If you pin lich to the toolbar, and then Right click on it, you'll be able to pull up properties, and start it in Administrative Mode...

There's still a popup, but it saves about 2 clicks from rerunning as admin from the install tab.

Permissions in Windows are such a fucking mess.
