Actually, I thought that's the modifier bonus. The shot of extra exp is the 'memory bubbles up' messaging. Maybe they're interchangable.

Isn't that the message you get when you are level 0 and run around the town to certain places? Those I know are straight exp bumps.

No. I can't remember it off hand, but that one is definitely an RPA message.
