I saw in another thread that the grey boots were "infused with a dark substance" which is void/vacuum flares (often mistaken for disruption). Just throwing that out there. Personally, if I were bidding, I'd be happy with either.

So were those disruption flares or void?

crb

AFAIK disruption. Bard song I guess is the same for both. Mechanically its much 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Yeah, the loresong I got from those "fire" boots is usually what I get for plasma. Just sayin. Also, the dark substance is almost always void. Most loresongs I've done in the past for items with disruption flares specifically state disruption. I am not raining on the sale...more trying to toss some gasoline on it. I'd think plasma would be a slight premium. I have the same boots. Good luck with the fire sale.

Sent you a PM about a possible BO on the fire (maybe plasma, heh?) boots, if you're interested.

Cheers!

I'm afraid I don't understand -- BO? Are we now doing a secret auction?

I'm afraid I don't understand -- BO? Are we now doing a secret auction?

BO = Buyout. Commonly used to denote a much larger, lump-sum offer to buy a particular item and circumvent the PITA of the whole auction process (for both parties). They may be offered at the outset by the seller, or flatly refused; to accept or decline individual offers is at the auctioneer's discretion. This is different from "secret" auctions, or private bids. I don't normally do private bids, but I prefer to PM the seller for trade/exchange buyout offers for anything that requires more than one sentence to elucidate.

That help? ;)

..which I thought was the whole point of a public auction.

The explanation? Yes. The fact that I (and others) now don't have a clue what the boots were worth to you? Not really. Would you tell us the buyout amount?

There really aren't very many "rules" regarding how the auctions are done here. Its very informal. The seller can pretty much set things up however they want . . . they can have a preset BO minimum, leave BO as a "make your offer" or refuse them outright. And they can change their mind at any time.

It is a public auction, with the option to just shell out extra cash outright to cut things short. Ever seen the "Buy it Now!" option on eBay? Same system.

You should, as you were the current high bidder I PM'd you an offer to match or beat the buyout. I don't like unlisted buyouts, and always give the current high bidder the opportunity to match it. You didn't respond, but after the message did post here, so I assumed you read it and passed. It was 1.2m btw.

Exactly what Kastrel said.

Sorry if that seemed unfair to you, Matik -- that's just how auctions go. I've had several items I was bidding on get bought-out... eh, that's just a chance you take. Buyouts (unless stated otherwise by the seller) are typically accepted -- and sometimes even encouraged -- since it's far quicker and easier than bouncing around on bids. And you had the same opportunity to present one as I did... even more so, sounds like.

I'm totally down with how crb handled it, in presenting you with an opportunity to BO first. I like the policy outlined above, and if you had presented a counter-offer or even matched my offer, I'd have just said "go for it" and been totally cool with it. You also could have PM'd me if you were curious, just for future reference.

Besides, there's plenty of UAC stuff out there up for grabs right now, and will likely be more trickling out for a good time to come.
