Alright, here's my question. I'm sure it's just a phase, but I've been looking at new Altima's because they're badass and get serious mileage for a good sized sedan. But about how much can one reasonably expect the price of a new 2005 model to be discounted once the 2006's are released. Dealers always slash prices on the old model years, and let's assume a 2005 Altima 2.5S will regularly retail for 20k.

Not as much as the depreciation is the real answer. While car dealers want to get rid of old inventory it isn't as good a deal as it should be.

You could always buy "used", and just find one with less than 10k miles on it, that's technically still new if the owner took care of it. That way you're getting it at depreciation value (not sure if thats what you would call it) and you might pay 12k on a 20k car.

And new/used are easy to find with under 10k miles on it.

Try having parents that don't suck so much that they could have actually bought you one.

Thats a good question. When I was shopping the 2003s were out in October 2002. Finally bought in Feb 2003 but no discount.

Its what? Almost June now? 2005s have to come down soon as the 2006s are getting put on in 4 months.

Except they really don't. They have means of covering those vehicles. Sure, they won't profit much... but the goal is maximizing any ability to profit for as long as possible.

Dealer holdback also plays into this.
