312 is now Fervent Reproach.

Here's some clips of a level 75 cleric using it.

Incanted, open hand.

You chant a reverent litany, clasping your hands while focusing upon the Fervent Reproach spell...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a gremlock.
A single dim, stormy grey globe springs to life in your left hand. With a flick of your left wrist, the globe dances through the air toward a gremlock!
CS: +373 - TD: +326 + CvA: +25 + d100: +83 == +155
Warding failed!
The orb squarely impacts a gremlock, discharging the stormy grey energy over his entire being for 41 points of damage!
The stormy grey energy pulses for an additional 28 points of damage ...
... dissipating with a final discharge of 16 points of damage!
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

312 · Fervent Reproach [FREPROACH]
Duration: Immediate

Type: Attack

Some say the eyes are the window to the soul and ultimately the channel to a being's deity. The cleric calls upon the power invested in him by his faith, focusing his fierce disapproval and rebuke of the target into a physical manifestation that covers the target in its entirety, severely punishing the foe. With greater knowledge of Spiritual Lore, Religion, the physical rebuke will have greater effect.

The cleric can also perform a prayer, focusing their entire will upon their spiritual intensity, which builds up within the cleric's being. This concentrated focus, once channeled towards the target, strengthens the energy being released. In order to charge the spell, clerics must PRAY FERVENT REPROACH and choose a time between 3-6 seconds. While the cleric is charging this power, after selecting the duration via PRAY, he/she cannot move or change stance. The longer the prayer, the more charged and intense the damage will be.

The cleric may also receive a backlash of residual energy that will instill into them an enhanced wisdom (Wisdom Stat bonus) as well as amplified health and mana (maximum Health and maximum Mana bonus). Training in the Spiritual Lore, Blessing skill increases the duration of these bonuses. Focusing the power of the spell through prayer increases the chance of this backlash happening, and once the bonus is applied to the cleric, it will not occur again until the effects have faded.

Using the CHANNEL command while open-handed is much more lethal than using the CAST command.

113 damage. Not bad for a 104 end roll.

Yeah, I'm not sure why he shrugged it off like that. 104 endroll out of a 184 potential and it did 113 damage right off. I wouldn't laugh at it.

Artha

That's what squares do. If he were a pure, he'd have written a 5 page report on why the spell is overpowered and <insert his profession here> needs <insert whatever spell here> to counterbalance it.

Edaarin
07-20-2004, 10:38 PM
Initially, I didn't notice the 32 damage it did right after the 47. I also didn't notice that it added up to a shitload of damage. The point is though, regardless of how hard that first hit was, it didn't stun, cause bruises/bleeders, or otherwise incapacitate me, and it would have meant dead cleric if it were a PvP situation. It also takes 6 seconds to prepare, time in which the caster cannot move at all, or change stance.

The damage on the second hit was nasty though.

Kitsun
07-20-2004, 10:42 PM
It is interesting that there isn't a damn trigger to let you know when the prayer time is done.

6 seconds doesn't seem worth the wait unless your using it to bushwhack someone. The channel, 0 wait damage still seems sufficient to hunt with however.

I don't know about that. At 40+ trains my cleric does that much or more pretty often (and gets the instadeath crit probably 10% of the time) on end rolls like that by channelling plain old 302 with open hands.

I haven't done too much testing with 312 yet, just a few casts, but so far I've been relatively unimpressed.

Why do you think you got a new attack spell? You know what's coming next don't you? The nerf to Bane/Smith.

Disclaimer: I don't play a cleric. But my warrior is married to one (Tatiyanna). She is 87 trains, and casts at 397. After a full evening of testing on Planes 1 and 2 of the rift, an area she is overhunting by 5 to 11 trainings, let us just say she is NOT a happy camper.

The basic issues are: why would a cleric use a spell that takes 3 to 4 shots at 12 mana each, incurring or not incurring extra rt, when they can use 302 or bolt and get either an insta-death CRIT or disable the critter so badly that they can finish it off with just one more cast AND have time to search it before it 'fades into oblivion?'

I really hope Uliq isn't done tweaking with this spell because there will be an awful lot of clerics who will shelf it as cosmetic. ...At least rift aged clerics. It may have its uses in other areas I suppose.

Anyone else out there have similar observations?

Scott

Simple, because when they nerf 302, it won't be so much better. Please, go take at the introduction of some of the lastest wizard spells and tell me if it matters to GM's if the implement useless and shitty spells.

The official boards are being smothered with complaints about this spell. The bitching is somewhere along the lines of...blah blah blah. This spell does too much damage. The spell has no insta-crits. The spell won't cause wounds!

I am appalled to come to the realization that if these GS-gamers were in charge of the WWII battle campaigns, they'd see the german tank and plane attacks, throw down their plans saying how unfair life was, lie down and die.

Instead of seeing a new tool that they could use in scenarios that warranted its use, they see a new spell that doesn't fit their battle strategy consisting of USE AWL TIME BECUD IT GUD.

The same fucking moron on the boards complained that it a) did too much damage and b) didn't have insta-crits. How the fuck does this work? If you deal enough damage, it fucking dies. How is that not akin to critting it outright?

In all likely scenarios, you won't be using this spell by itself. However I don't see how it is useless given the sheer number of target disablers available to clerics.

Unlike other professions, clerical attack spells have extreme versitility. 302 and 312 basically serve as several different damage weighted weapons that can be changed on whim by controlling stance, open hands, cast/channel and a wait time.

The people bitching really do show a lack of imagination about how to effectively utilize any new tool given to them.

Offhand, I think the spell has at least a few other uses than skins. It can be used very well against creatures with high resistance to crits like MTK's, and it works well against uncrittables like undead. It can be used an initial strike, charge it up while your roaming for a new target, then requiring very little nicking damage to finish it off.

Bitching about the spell is fine *if* there's some basis for it in reality. People bitching about it because they can't visualize any potential should expect to be laughed at.

SP: I would've given names but all I really saw was, "Some random idiot with some idiotic complaint." His name wasn't worth remembering.

Pray to set the amount of wait time. Once you pray, it'll stay at the set time until you change it again. The pray knocks you to your knees, while you can stand up immediately, it isn't fun to keep swapping it.

Then prep and channel.

Like 302 doesn't have enough crits or do enough damage?

Jeezus. Is 312 align-based like 302? Because if it isn't, all it does is basically open up undead to the lornon-aligned, and living to the liabo-aligned. And I think that's the basic premise of this spell.

And here I thought the outfits and the title The Nalfein Kitten would've given me away. You figure it out with a CS, bah.

Anybody using this spell? (312) I forgot all about it pretty much right away...

Not I.

I use it on banshees. Can sometimes get 200+ damage in one no-hands, stance off channel...but it doesn't stun, so sucky.

In the tower in illistim it becomes really helpful because while i bane the goleras and moulis, using bane on the shrickhen (undead) costs 10 mana and does almost no damage. One or two shots of 312 takes them out perfectly.

I've been using it a bit lately because I've been hunting the living with my cleric (who's 302 is smite). I've found that holy bolt is still more effective, but 312 is prettier.

I skip the shrickhen. I've found that unless you channel it, either for 6 seconds or with empty hands in offensive, the damage on it is pretty weak for a 12 mana spell that doesn't stun.

I use it every time I hunt the illistim glacier, since I'm a smiter.
