Chris Roberts is kickstarting a new space sim called Star Citizen. It will basically be a new wing commanders game with space combat and ship boarding using the crytek 3 engine. It won't have the wing commander IP unfortunately but it will be a sequel in all other ways. I grew up on Wing Commander and it's still my favorite game series of all time. I pre-ordered the game on kickstarter for 30 bucks.

I've been following this, looks like it has a lot of potential.

I fucking loved Wing Commander, but like every other kickstarter I'm going to need something more solid before I put money down.

Holy god - who thought the two words "wing" and "commander" could bring back such vivid nostalgia.

First kickstarter I've bought into. In Chris Roberts I trust.

The space sim that to this date is still my favorite and has no equal was Descent: Freespace. Have there been any really good ones (that doesn't require a lifetime to play like Eve Online) recently? I may be interested in this...

There is a Wing Commander mod for Freespace 2. The timeline is during the WC3 campaign, but different battles, etc...

I put money into the Carmageddon Kickstarter back in Feb. They've started development and already ported the original into an iPhone app.

With Kickstarter they raised over $600k so the company is really motivated. I guess it will boil down to how motivated the Wing Commander company is.

They already have private funding, the kickstarter is basically to gauge public interest. He doesn't want to use a publisher because he feels like they screwed him in the past.

Kickstarter is a way for people to generate funds for projects they wouldn't normally have on their own so I am surprised this person says he already has funding and is just looking for public support through Kickstarter. I guess it is one way to do it but certainly there are other ways.

I used the term "company" pretty loosely in my previous post. Its really just the original programmers.

I just read the page. They are using Kickstarter to fund the project. Good luck! It looks pretty awesome.

Wow this great to here. I loved all the games put out by them especially Privateer series. I would like to see a new Freelancer game. There has been so many mods for Freelancer but they didn't hold my interest like the storyline of Freelancer. The other drawback was even though it was open world, you couldn't get the better ships until you leveled up.

Yeah this is pretty much the game I've been looking for since forever.

There is no leveling up system in this one.
