If I have leather armor that has been previously altered into "robes", what do you guys think my chances are of getting them altered to look different but retain "robes" as the main noun? Also, what are the chances of the GM deciding, once they have it in their possession, that not only is my alter request denied but that I am not even allowed to retain the current description and forcing me to change the noun to something that accurately reflects the AsG. I appreciate any input.

Most likely they'll let you maintain the noun and work on everything around it as well. There's a long standing policy to grandfather in old things that don't meet today's standards, (except for ICE materials). That's one pandora's box they don't want to mess with.

Don't try it.

It entirely depends on the GM, I have several items with nouns that are not currently allowed, I ask merchants if they will work on them and leave them unchanged before handing them over, have yet to have one say they wouldn't change one when working on them and then change them anyway. They are under no particular instruction to correct such items, unlike say ICE age materials which they are forced to correct.

Another question for those seasoned veterans... what is the likelyhood of a merchant to observe a request to change a noun? Say changing a falchion to a machete? Can just your average everyday merchant handle it?

http://www.play.net/gs4/info/armory/edgedweapons.asp#Falchion helpful part of the site that tells you all the approved alternative nouns for base weapons. I doubt any GM would deny machete, but if they did you can point them over here.

Just try not to ask merchants that are altering specific items for things they arent doing, such as asking a tailor for armor work, that sometimes annoys them rather a lot.

Along the same lines, try not to be named Fleurs. This also annoys them and everyone else rather a lot.

I have a pair of boots with the noun of "striders". I tried altering the look without removing striders and they refused to touch it.

Thanks for the input everyone. Along a similar train of thought, are armor concealers typically alterable using those premium point alter scrolls? Like as long as the garment I alter it into would reasonably cover the area thats covered by the armor? That would probably solve my problem more easily....

Sounds good, thanks. I've seen armor concealing "robes" before, so problem solved I guess.
