a sky blue shawl
The first thing that strikes you about the shawl is the weight, which is about 128 pounds. - full
The first thing that strikes you about the shawl is the weight, which is about 8 pounds. - empty

You estimate that a sky blue shawl can store a very large amount with enough space for any number of items.
You determine that you could wear the shawl, hanging it from your shoulders. The shawl appears to serve some purpose.
You analyze your blue shawl and sense that the item is free from merchant alteration restrictions.
You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the blue shawl for you or have its pockets deepened.

I've never had it lightened or deepened so I imagine it can be deepened 5 times, right?

Any thoughts on this?

I don't think there's any way to tell how many times something can be deepened, though a fair number of merchants will answer that question for you when they're doing lightening/deepening.

I've seen quite a few of these and unless something has changed recently you can alter cloaks into shawls, or anything cloak worn without any restrictions on it. It should come out to 140 pounds max deep, and weight 5 or so when max light.
