Worked 80 or so hours last week and this weekend. Fun times!

http://caps.spiffyjr.me/2012-09-24_10-12-34.jpg

That's part of what I was doing. So, whose going to be playing?

Me.

http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/08/03/mists-of-pandaria-leveling-dungeon-bosses-in-5-seconds/

Extremely short Dungeon guides for the reg's we can do from 85-90 essentially boils the dungeons down to what can wipe you.

Man so your job is actually to "catch them all" so to speak :/

SpiffyJr

I wasn't going after the pets - hell I don't even play WoW. I just wrote the map to display them all for Wowhead.

Is that map an addon, or website thing?

I lol'd, even if that is a horrible joke.

Speaking of pet battles, I finally found an advantage to the CRZ thing other than gigantic wars in Halaa. Pet battles on a pvp realm leave you open to attack. Solution? Have a friend from a pve realm invite you to group, then you run around and do your pet battling on their server. No getting ambushed while you're in a different screen, hooray!

SpiffyJr
09-24-2012, 12:51 PM
It's a web-based map, not an addon.

*EDIT* I caught the joke but it wasn't humorous enough to justify a reply. PWNNNNNNNT!

So....world first 90 already achieved, in less than 5 hours in Europe....

...before the game even launched in North America.

To clarify: he spam-killed an instantly respawning elite for 111k experience each kill, he was averaging 406k exp a minute. Similar to the mob-tagging used to get world first 70 and 85, except this mob instantly respawns leaving no downtime, so no idea what Blizz will do about it, if anything.

So this is fun. I was in Tol Barad when the switch flipped. I turned in all my quests and clicked the Org portal. I've been at 0% load screen for about 2 minutes. SR got disconnected, logged back in, and is now sitting at 90% load screen. Hooray, launch night?

Really sucks that inscription learns no glyphs from the trainer and can only get one per day from research while every other profession can discover as many as they have mats for.

You know.. this is purely cosmetic, but I wish I could find a set of that Hunter armor from the character creation screen in the game. It looks like a high-res version of the Dwarven Mountaineer NPC's gear.

Totally the wrong thread for this, but with the number of errors my work computer gives me on the PC, I'm not hunting down a better one.

•Proving Grounds will have some kind of ranking system with scores, allowing you to brag that you are "the best healer on the server". It will also let tanks practice tanking without ruining the dungeon experience of four other players.

Both sentences in that make me so very happy. I hope they really do implement it, and it doesn't fall apart at some point.

In order to do a proper mobile app we'd need an API. It's something I've been considering doing in my free time but I'm not exactly excited about spending free time for more work. A mobile site could be possible, though, I'll bring it up.

Dunno if any of you have tried monks yet, but I have one at 30 so far and I'm really liking the way they did monk healing. I've never really been a healer, though I have of course done so in a pinch with the enhance shaman. Between the 'offensive healing' (I can't recall what they call it... starts with an e) and the channeled heal that can have the other, timed-cast heals become instant heals on the channel target, its got a pretty cool feel to it all. I'm curious to see how the offensive healing works in raids and other end-game situations, though. I guess it probably depends on what your healing assignment is that might determine if you can even try to use the offensive heals or not, but I'm liking it so far. I can sit back like a lazy fuck and pop soothing mists while I do other things or I can be a much more active 'dps-healer' with the actual heals being cast when necessary.

I was sent this link today:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-10-03-world-of-warcraft-mists-of-pandaria-review

I was struck by this paragraph which resonated ...

WOW has touched perfection in aspects of its previous expansions: the artwork and themes of Wrath of the Lich King, the freedom of questing opportunities in Cataclysm and the hard-won dungeon progress that gave The Burning Crusade its brutal but rewarding pace. It's yet, however, to bring all of these moments together into one glorious whole - and in the max-level heroic dungeons of Pandaria, the game still struggles to find its Goldilocks moment between adversity and accessibility.

The article also mentioned two new BGs, Silvershard Mines and Temple of Kotmogu, and suggested that they were rather engaging in the strategic sense (vs zerg-centric) and potentially could breath new life into PvP. Has anyone played them much?

TheEschaton
10-03-2012, 11:37 AM
I think the expectation of heroic dungeons has to be shifted. In the old paradigm, there were 2 modalities, dungeons and raids. Starting in TBC, you had normal dungeons, heroic dungeons, 10/25 man raids. Since then, the gap between end game raiding and heroic dungeons has greatly widened.

Now you have things between heroics and raids, and those are meant to be the "challenge" (heroics -> challenge mode -> LFR -> normal mode raids -> heroic raids) whereas the heroics are supposed to be more casual. They've almost become a misnomer.

Parkbandit
10-03-2012, 11:43 AM
I hope the heroic versions of the new dungeons are tougher than the regular ones. I've done about 15 pugs and haven't come close to wiping on anything. Pretty much tank and spank and don't stand in fire. No real strategy required.

As TheE said, heroic dungeons aren't really supposed to be heroic anymore. I've run a few, and they aren't. They're roughly on par with the Hour of Twilight heroics toward the end of Cata. You can still wipe if people do dumb stuff, but the intent is that a group of 5 average (so not overly skilled) players can get through it without speaking more than 5 sentences to each other.

TheEschaton
10-03-2012, 11:58 AM
The heroics at level 90? They're not hard. I don't think they're meant to be. Definitely supposed to be WotLK roflstomp - but I think it's by design.

The real question will be whether "good" challenge mode groups, which complete the dungeon in less than 15 minutes or something, will be worth the reward to offset the cost of old school group formation and running out there yourself. I have some doubts as to whether the "challenging" 5 man content will be relevant to the average WoW player, whereas back in the day they were forced to rise to the occasion, because there was no other alternative.

TheEschaton
10-03-2012, 12:16 PM
BTW, in the first night of raiding, only one guild in the world managed to clear the instance. On normal modes. Can't be said for any expansion since TBC. Although the Europeans only get it today. On our server, only 2 guilds managed to down a boss (we go in on Friday).

We're formalizing strats now and the raids certainly look like they'll be pretty challenging.

Spiffy, write some code to scan the damn ads on your site. Today was the third time I know I got something evil from them, and there was another it could have been you or could have been mmo-champion. I'm getting pretty pissed. This time something popped up covering everything on my computer and keeping itself on top no matter what. It went on this gigantic tirade about how the FBI had locked my computer for music/movie piracy, and the only way I could unlock it is to go to Wal-Mart, buy a Moneypak card for $200, and enter the code in this convenient box. I had to reboot in safe mode to get rid of the shit.

afk, going to download firefox. Shouldn't have to switch browsers just to look stuff up on wowhead.

Firefox probably wont help. Those viruses usually operate through security flaws in adobe flash. I do recommend downloading it anyway though. Firefox is much better in general. MMO-Champion probably sells their ad space to an internet advertisement firm who in turn sells it to smaller groups. One of those groups is probably distributing a flash virus. Also Im from the FBI and if you dont send me a 200 pre-paid atm card I will ruin you.

I haven't looked into it a whole lot, but from what I've seen, it seems like the main intent behind challenge modes is the transmog gear. I would love to get those Illidan horns for the warlock.

Which is exactly why I refuse to use sites that won't operate with ad blocking software. Some of these idiots just don't get it; they cannot ensure the ads they put on their site are clean, legit ads. The further down the chain that shit goes, the weaker the security. Soo... Firefox, adblock plus, and noscript FTW. Fuck ads, fuck their piddly third party suppliers with their virus infected junk.

The point of firefox was getting adblock and noscript. I know just a generic browser switch won't do much. I wasn't aware those addons were available for IE, or I might have gone that route instead.

Finished the first 4 bosses (of 6) in our first two nights of raiding, and got in about an hour and a half on Elegon, the 5th boss, which has been a wall for lots of people.

One more night tomorrow, hopefully we can get all 6. Only one phase in Elegon is a pain for us, but it's a fucking ridiculously important phase.

These fights require a lot more coordination and on-the-fly thinking than most of the fights in Cata that I ever remember. One, Spiritbender (the 3rd boss) is particularly a pain in the ass. It's like H-Baleroc with juggling the shard soaking, except you can't gimmick it with an spriest and it involves 2 healers in a 2 heal fight. We had to double pot, eat 300 stat food (which is ridiculously hard to come by right now), and killed him just as he said the phrase he says before he wipes the raid instantly.

Sounds like our first Ultraxion kill. He was about 85% through the cast bar for the thing that wipes the entire raid when we took him down.

It's hard. We didn't finish it this week. Mainly because we're undergeared and none of us had DMF cards, which seems to be what everyone else was using to power through it.

It's kind of a pain in the ass to be new to a server and just not have the resources to farm up cards. In other news, I spent the last 3 hours leveling a toon 1-600 in inscription.

It's painful. I've grown so used to having access to all the professions I need and only transferred one of my guys to a new server. In addition to the loss of those professions, I had to leave several hundred thousand gold, which makes me feel really poor. Inscription is easy as hell to level, though, which I'm working on now on my monk. Once I go through Pandaland and finish that, I'm gonna drop herbalism and work on enchanting. Enchanting sucks to level :(

Some Rogue
10-09-2012, 12:39 AM
I made like 19k today just selling 2 darkmoon cards. I love it.

What sucks with professions is that even though I have most of them to 600 now, I can't make anything useful unless I level the character and grind rep to buy the good patterns. And I am finding it hard to get the motivation to level a second character already.

The spirits should be BoA. We've been joking that farming (like the actual farming) has become a progression raider thing, because at exalted with Tillers you can get 16 motes a day.

Edit: And I've already spent about 40k buying up Tigers deck cards.

Had an interesting experiment last night. Ive been leveling my various alts by using their rested and sitting them in an inn to level a different alt lately. Last night logged in the priest and did 86-87, took about 7 hours questing. After I logged him I logged in my hunter who is a skinner and thought, let me grind some leather for my leather worker while im doing this. Well I did half of the level in an hour and a half just grinding mobs. Its actually WAY faster to just blow shit up then to do the actual quests. The combination of no flying mounts, quest hubs rewarding paultry amounts of experience and the distance you have to travel to pick up and turn in quests makes it take nearly twice as long as just grinding like crazy. On top of getting ~8 million experience I got 15 stacks of leather 20 motes of harmony and 10 stacks of food for panda cooking. Way better than questing.

Liagala
10-10-2012, 10:41 AM
1. Get skinning to 560
2. Park a skinner on top of the plateau where most of the Halfhill dailies are done
3. Wait for a day when people have to kill a metric ton of goats for the daily

Drew got more than 60 stacks of leather yesterday, just logging in to skin stuff then back out when he ran out of dead goats. No motes, exp, or cooking mats, but plenty of leather!

g++
10-10-2012, 10:44 AM
You can actually do better. People are also leveling by killing turtles believe it or not. They respawn instantly and theres usually like 10 people standing there just killing them for experience. Just stand there and click skin for as long as you want. I did that for like 5 minutes till my bags were full but then I was like....well this is pointless im not leveling heh.

It's the same as every xpac, there's a flavor of the month, and everyone who isn't that flavor rages so hard. BM hasn't been a viable arena spec since beastcleave and even then it was a mediocre comp.

Right now it's OP as hell, but the mages and rogues are just pissed it isn't them. The thing is, if you survive the first 10 seconds vs a hunter, there's not much he can do.

Finally finished MSV today. With everyone at ilvl 466-468 it was a much easier instance. Bosses which took 10 pulls last week took 2 or 3 this week. Elegon, who we spent 4 hours wiping on last week we killed in about 5 pulls. Will of the Emperor took us 10 pulls and 2 hours today (3 of which were garbage pulls where we died before 80% because a tank got gibbed.

One weird thing is one of our tanks is deciding between DK and paladin, and his DK takes soooooooooooo much less damage despite being less geared than his paladin. Have any of you guys noticed paladins being squishier?

Oh, and I got the bow off Will of the Emperor. :)

now for heroic progression, the first week of which I get to miss because of my sister's wedding. :(

I love idjits. So, I'm new to this server and my characters are in random, level 1/newb area ginvite-spam leveling guilds. Earlier this guy asked in gchat if anyone wanted to do BC content (yeah, don't mind the new expansion that just came out or anything) and got a big nothing for response. He's 85, everyone else that is not doing MoP and 86-90 is under 60. Apparently my 'away' status means I'm not doing anything and should want to go back and do old content, which I just absolutely love doing.

That's why halfhill should be a no fly zone. That our I should be allowed to kill my own faction, make a debuff that starts at 60 seconds when standing on/within 5yrds of daily quest giver. After 60 seconds you're free game to be killed.
