Just looking for some quick clarification, since this specific scenario is not listed on krakii, and I am unable to find it in the archives.

My understanding is as follows: wearing somewhat crit-padded reinforced leather (ASG 7), and then adding a random helm with no special properties, I retain my somewhat padding on the head, but now have a 6 crit divisor for the head instead of 5?

Additionally, I would have the armor penalties/training requirements of double leather (ASG 8), but retain the AvD and CvA of reinforced leather?

Please correct or confirm as applicable.

Adding armor accessories changes the asg for the purposes of crit divisor. For instance, if you add arm greaves to light leather you now have the critical divisor protection of soft leather on your arms instead of robes.

Padded armor (your main armor) adds that level of padding everywhere. For instance, if you are wearing HCP metal breastplate, the padding still applies to your whole body. Armor accessories without special properties do not change this. It only gets more complicated if the accessories have padding to them as well. You can read the krakiipedia article on it but honestly I just don't mess with mixing padded armor and padded armor accessories.

Though armor accessories do change the crit divisor for that section, it DOES NOT change the avd, cva, or damage factor. For this reason it is generally better to wear the correct ASG of armor instead of adding accessories.

Often overlooked, armor accessories are a great additional enhansive slot if you already have that piece covered by your normal armor. For instance, if you wear full plate and have a good enhansive helm use it. The only downside is the additional weight.

Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention accessories do also change the man penalty, training requirements, and spell hinderance to whatever ASG it moves it to, but I'm sure you already know that and I probably went well beyond your question.
