You can buy one of those "sheet" pillows, put them under the blankets. Easy to wash, easy to keep an eye on. Dogs love that soft feeling.

Have you check pets mart? If you ask some of those folk they could give you some advice.

I have a rather throw-away 'Merican style method of dog bedding. I get the $29.99 dog beds from Costco that have the cute damask covers and are pine filled as Christmas gifts for my dogs every year. I wash the covers but invariably yes, they get yucky. That's why, the next year, they get the same bed, but the old one gets banished to the back patio. The old old ones finally go to the trash. It seems to work for my hairy beasts.

I'm not sure what a sheet pillow is and bing told me to fuck off when I asked.

And yeah, petsmart's the plan, just mining for information before I go tomorrow.

.

Leifa I'm not sure if I'm sad or glad that others are having a problem with the stinky dog bed issue.

It's a flat pillow.

Now for the real question. Why the HELL are you using bing?

Edit: You can make them for literally nothing. You just need stuffing, take a worn out or sheet you never use, measure your crate, cut/fold (after stuffing) and then glue/sew/whatever it up. Cheap to make and dogs love it.

I've got three dogs, one of whom sleeps in a kennel just like that every night. We use the same method as Leifa, I'm afraid. The dogs get new beds every year. Sometimes more than once a year, especially in the case of the pit bull in the kennel. She's got a whole host of health problems that inevitably foul up her bed once every few months so I toss it.

Now that I think of it, my house is studded with dog beds in almost every room of the house. And you know where my JRT is right now? On my couch. He pulled down and made a nest of the blanket that was on the back of the couch, right on top of one of the throw pillows. For extra padding or something. Little bastard.

Because I'm trying it. Or something. Try everything once, I say.

Sheet pillow sounds like something that would go in my Why Not To Scrapbook category. Too much effort - too little reward.

Jack Russell Terriers are so cute. Is it true they run in circles to burn energy?

/giving up on finding a dog bed solution - will buy best available product tomorrow and maybe in bulk

You use bing? That explains so much....

Same results as bing. Still no "sheet pillow"

Hrm. I was looking at the top result wrong. Anyways, I always used a folded comforter, that way she could create a little fort in it. Easy to wash and pretty cheap.

My dogs kept going thru pillows and crates like they were candy until I got them cots from petcot.com. They have an option for heavy duty vinyl which is what I got. They're practically indestructable.

We sell a memory foam dog bed mattress thing at my store and I'm jealous because it's more fucking comfortable than my own bed...

Rojo, there are a ton of options. Truth is, we only crate our dog about five to eight hours a day so we just use a couple large bath towels that are now rags. We wash/swap em out once or twice a week. They do make dog beds that are specific to crates, from appearance and label, that look comfy and sell for around $60 or more at Pet Smart. Dog beds have gotten ridiculous, and we have two, that cost a good bit more than the previous price tag. We recycle our dog beds regularly. We throw the outer shells in the wash and dryer every two weeks or so. Let the inner bed sit out on the deck to sort of air out some. Every six or eight months we remove all the stuffing from the inner shell and restuff it with appropriate material from either Walmart, Pet Smart or even Ben Franklin. The padding material is pretty multi-use stuff. It's annoying swapping out the bedding but it's significantly cheaper than replacing beds yearly. They're just getting stupid expensive and this way the beds smell better sooner than when replacing a couple hundred dollars worth of dog beds.

I just put a few blankets in the crate. The weiner dogs burrow in and make nests that are to their own spec and design.

No. Not at all true. They are possessed of a truly evil intelligence. They destroy all you hold dear. When he was younger and I was in college without a lot of spare time, he ATE THE WALLS. Seriously. We lost shoes. He ate my favorite folding camp chair that was out on the porch. The one with the built in foot rest! I still miss that thing. One time, a friend was trying to get him to obey, getting frustrated, and Callahan trotted over, lifted a leg, and peed on his shin. EVIL. I probably shouldn't have laughed.

But now he's almost eleven and he's been perfectly well-behaved (for me, anyway... still doesn't respect my boyfriend) for a few years, even off-leash. I've never had any dog as easy to train and I've had a lot of dogs. Sometimes, when I'm feeling extra evil, I show off Callahan to some strangers at the park and when they fall in love with his perfect obedience and eternal scruffy puppy cuteness, I DON'T warn them. Muahahahahahahaha!

Seriously though, don't ever get a JRT.

We have one dog and I think he converts darkness to unbearable heat every night.

Now that's a cool dog.

I sleep with a blanket hog so the extra heat from two dogs (and sometimes a cat) is usually welcome.

My dog sleeps on my old bed pillows with some cheap pillow cases. Wash the pillow cases as needed and throw out the pillow every few months. It gives me an excuse to get myself glorious fluffy new pillows more often.

Solid foam cushion with a removable cover, but under the cover put one of those plastic sheets you zip around a toddler mattress? That might keep the foam from getting nasty. If you can't find one, make one (or hire a girl to who can sew to make one).

When my little guy was a baby, he slept in a crate with a small dog cushion/bed. The kind you find at X-mas time. I'd just wash that thing every couple weeks or so. Now, when I call them for bedtime (my daughter and him) they jump into bed and I tuck them in.

Whoa petcot looks like a winner. I'm looking at the medium dog bed, fleece cover (machine washable!!). I might try the crate pad too.

This is correct.

I use towels and George gets in and makes himself comfortable. Easy to wash and replace.

Coming in late on this discussion...
But we use old beach towels. Maybe my dogs are just weird but they seem to push the towels to the side and prefer to sleep on the crate floor. They also rip the towels to little bits so generally I prefer not to buy anything expensive that I know will just get destroyed. We've tried the specific "crate beds" before but they get torn to shreds so quickly it's not even funny. I think I cried once.

A bit late on this one, but I'm a big fan of Kuranda beds. Very easy to clean and comfortable.

^^ This! My three geriatric mini-dachshunds sleep on the bed, they have their own blanket at the foot. But I have two medium size pillowy dog beds from PetSmart, one in the family room and one near my desk for them downstairs. I have a crate (rottweiler sized!) like RojoDisco's that I bought inexpensive bath mats for (2-3 at a time) that can be washed as often as needed. They're rarely crated, but perfectly happy to cuddle in there together. Yes, totally spoiled rotten. (We won't discuss the three cats...)
