So... I don't know what it is, but lately, I've been having some really terrible dreams. Pretty gory... not unusual for me, but I'm not sure I've ever been terrified of dreams before. It makes it tough to sleep.
Anyone else ever had this problem? Maybe have a solution?

I had some wicked nightmares for a while... I considered it cheap(free) entertainment. I actually missed them when they stopped.

These dreams seem to revolve around cruelty to animals, which is just... not cool.

Awwwww. Mine were usually StarCraft, Starship Trooper, or Alienesque.
Supposedly if you focus, you can realize it is just a dream and grab the reins and control its direction. I've never really tried or done it but it sounds cool. There was a dream thread around here a while back...

Eating anything weird before going to bed?
Try reading before bed. Something completely unterrifying and harmless... like Harry Potter or the Chronicles of Narnia.

American Indians teach their children to confront the dreams that scare them. Kinda like what Kitsun alludes to.
There are lucid dreams where you can be semi-in control. At least thats the best I've been able to manage. Haven't had one in a while, but for a long time in an old apartment, I would wake up, walk out to the livingroom and try to flip the lightswitch. The light wouldn't come on, but the VCR clock would still be lit, so I somehow automatically knew I was dreaming. Then I would go flying off my balcony, but usually not being able to control it like Superman, ending up in weird places.
I could go on and on about this stuff, but the most recent weird dream I've had was from very very deep sleep and involved a symetrical graphite-powdered tentacled thing that embodied pure evil.

I've been reading The STand, but I've read it a couple of times before.I usually only read it on the bus.
Probably just hormones.
Either that or I'm a serial killer in the making.

I was told masturbating before sleep might help.
I guess I'll give it the old college try.

Trying NOT to think of it before sleep actually will make you more lible to dream it, according to a recent dream study. So give the dreams some thought before you sleep (after masturbating so you don't ruin your mood..heh), then tell yourself you will realize its a dream. Then as Kit said, during the dream try to control it, once you can do that the terror is gone. OR you can do what I used to do wake up and sing Popeye the Sailor man song until you feel safe again.:nutty:

I usually only have scary dreams after watching horror movies. They always give me a crappy nights sleep but I cant stop watching them. I love horrible horror movies.

While I realize this might not be your thing, Maimara, have you tried praying?
