Chadj

One of these days, I'm going to make a script, to pwn the system.
It will sit and do actions while drunk untill my RT reaches 2^32. MWAHAHAHA.
Or do a feint lock. It would take like, hours and hours, but I would win so hard.

You could do it with sweeping and haste.

[Southern Slopes, Treeline]
The mountains sag above, forming a curved bowl framed within the thrusting peaks at its sides. All but a few jagged outcroppings lie buried under a soft blanket of white powder. Spiraling overhead, tendrils of blowing snow sweep upwards over the concave slope. The dancing wisps of winter's smoke eventually fade into nothingness against the sky. You also see a greater ice giant, a lesser ice giant and an ice-white palache.
Obvious paths: southwest, up
>
A lesser ice giant swings a massive icicle at you!
AS: +299 vs DS: +313 with AvD: +38 + d100 roll: +76 = +100
A clean miss.
>tap circ
A greater ice giant swings a frost-covered battle-axe at you!
AS: +306 vs DS: +313 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +79 = +109
... and hits for 5 points of damage!
Weak slash to your right arm.
That doesn't even sting.
You tap a dull ithilnaur circlet.
There is a massive roar as the very ground explodes!
A greater ice giant is knocked to the ground!
A lesser ice giant is knocked to the ground!
>stow circ
You put a dull ithilnaur circlet in your knight's surcoat.
>
Suddenly a giant bird swoops in from above and shrieks at you!
Roundtime: 1100 sec.
The giant bird whispers, "Don't abuse something unless your wish is for it to be made less useful."
The giant bird flaps away as quickly as it came.
>groan
You groan.
------------------
So I guess using my circlet as a hunting tool is out of the question......

That's a nice circlet though, where'd it come from?
edit: Also, that's like 20 minutes.

What were you abusing?

Myentin tried to voln throw a rat once, he was so encumbered that he failed miserably and got a 35766 sec. roundtime.

Did he actually sit there for the 9+ hours?

Well err...... Hope you like... had a snack handy.
Longest RT I've ever had was 45 seconds or so.
And what were you abusing?

Maybe that "a dull ithilnaur circlet" I don't recognize that spell that it triggered.

Artha reckons it is a scripted item rather than a spell and that it wasnt supposed to be used for critters due to the No MIU and Unlimited nature of a scripted item

That sucks dude. Hope you lived through that.

Um, forgive my ignorance but what's "PWN?" And where'd it come from?
I know this is off topic but I didn't want to start a whole new thread for such a simple question.

I never got the GM stance of "Here's a kewl toy, DON'T EVER USE IT!!"
Dennicus: pwn is an internet way of saying "own". As for where it comes from, well, that's arguable.

Thanks, Latrinsorm.

Well there's items that were made with the intention of being just a fun trinket. Then someone gets ahold of it that doesn't see it as a prop but as a tool to be abused for their own gain.
Can't tell too much from that little snippet but look at what it could be. Zero RT, unlimited uses and may not even have a warding check on creatures to knock them down.

Putting a hunter in 20 minutes of RT is crude, unimaginative, and not one of them. If the GM's are going to restrict people from using these items, they might as well change the items instead of going power-trip and holding it over our heads (although to be technical, I don't have any items like this, so the correct adjective is probably your).
And for a semantics issue, there's no way what Drew did could be construed as abusing a tool; he used a knockdown device to knock down creatures.

We only saw a clip of the item being used one time. What we may not have seen is it being used for the prior 30 minute hunt or the hour hunt before that.
Perhaps all the GM wanted to do was instill a notion that the item should be used responsibly and not nuke its ability. Giving him that RT certainly got his attention. Would you think anyone would want their item 'nerfed' as opposed to given a chance to use it a bit more sparingly?

If the GM didn't observe him using it, repeatedly (I'm sure that's why they saw it), he'd still be abusing it.
I say nerf it.

My philosophy is still: The GMs gave an unlimited use item. If they don't want it to be unlimited, then change the item. Don't try to be cute, just call the character up at an appropriate time (sitting at a table, not in the middle of a swarm) and let them know. If they're so worried about people's feelings, they should be more diligent in QC.
I'm not trying to argue that the GM response was out of proportion with the character's actions, I'm trying to argue that the GM response is stupid and counterproductive.
An unlimited knockdown item should not exist (or at least should not be used as a hunting tactic) with no limitations as far as mana/stamina/RT/anything, that's all I'll say. Hence you won't be seeing anything like that in use in the near future ::whistles::
