Someone asked me a damn good question about puncture resistance and I just want to check that my response was accurate.

I have assumed that the quality -in terms of level and duration - of the protection provided by someone with Rank 1 in puncture resist, would be the same as someone with Rank 5 in puncture resist, where the fitting being acquired was the same.

In other words am I correct in thinking that it is the fitting that determines the resistance but the rank that allows you to get a better fitting?

If so, the advice provided was correct. If not, could you provide some clarification... preferably without using equations.

Yes, with one caveat. The duration (number of hits) includes armor skill/10 regardless of the fitting. Armor, adjusted by two individuals using the same fittings, can have a different number of hits but the resistance % will be the same.

Common fittings:
10% resistance
25 hits + armor skill /10

Sturdy fittings:
20% resistance
35 hits + armor skill /10

Fine fittings:
30% resistance
45 hits + armor skill /10

Superb fittings:
40% resistance
55 hits + armor skill /10

Masterwork fittings:
50% resistance
65 hits + armor skill /10

Mark
