that's the real problem with putting dollar value to silver. What most people fail to realize though it's not dollars spent and gone. Most items hold their value and you get the money back down the road. How you say, "silvers used to sell for $16 per million and now only sell for $7.50." Well this is gemflation and while the dollar value has gone down the amount uber items are selling for has gone up. So technically someone could indeed invest $1400 assuming they had no in game silver already, but technically they'll use this bow for a few years and just sell out and at the very least get a good majority of the money back. Like everything else the risk is being the last man holding the bag(item)(ie gemstone player base drops so far no one is buying).
example fel hafted waraxes used to sell for 5 mill when silver was about $15 per giving it a dollar value of $75
Fel hafters now sell for about 10 mill with a silver value of $7.50 which low and behold is $75
(btw I'm science major and failed economics 20 years ago in college so don't go around quoting anything I have to say about economics)

was reading the guiness book of world records the other day and the most amount of money spent on a virtual object was a planet bought in Entropia Universe for 6 million dollars.
