View Full Version : If you had ONE wish...

07-11-2004, 12:51 AM
...bored...

...and sure this has been brought up before...

- If you were fortunate enough to rub the proverbial genie bottle, but with the exception that only one wish could be granted to you, what could your intuitive evilness or philanthropy possibly concoct as being granted to you. One Wish; reasonable, or off-the-walls, it don't matter...

NO WISHING FOR MORE WISHES :nono:

Turning invisible is, also, grotesquely overdone!

But anyway, let's get this party started!

Win the lotto. Duh. Money buys happiness.

By happiness, I mean a large breasted trophy wife.

One wish.. one wish...

I would wish that my entire family from the beginning of time would be alive and in one room so I could see what my ancestry was like.

I would wish that my entire family from the beginning of time would be alive and in one room so I could see what my ancestry was like.

Nice. Kinda long those lines:

My one wish would be the ability to raise people from the dead (to a previous state in their lives so that they don't trudge around looking like fucking zombies after my divine ressurection.)

Money. Because with money, you can get power, and women. Screw looks.. You already got money, which is better. Power, money, and women is also happiness. So screw that. Money winz my wish.

And that is why I am happy there are people like you around. I am, self admittedly, much too selfish to wish for such a thing, but it's good to know there are those who would.

While yes, I'd wish for money, my wish is limited. I want enough money to live comfortably for the rest of my life. I don't want a 9 bedroom mansion that needs 5 servents and 3 maids to run properly.

Maybe..3-4k a month just...appears in my bank account.

To rule the world. That would take care of the money, hunger, hate mongers, etc. I would still be able to do what I wanted to do and to help others.

Yes, ruling the world.

And no arguing because I rule the world. This is my answer!

That's interesting, X.

One thing I always ask people who want to live forever...why?

I noticed you said everyone around you as well--which shoots down one of my arguments against it, you'd be forced to deal with the deaths of those you love. But other than that...there's so many other negative aspects. Would you still age? How would your health be? You could be immortal, but what if you still suffer from some sort of [painful] illness?

I'd wish for all the super powers of all the comic books written, and none of their drawbacks.

Then using my super IQ and super strength and super whatever, I'd find cures for major diseases, develop ways to save the environment, alternative fuel sources, etc, etc, etc. So.. basically I'd get to be super duper, and could make others lives better also.

along a similar vein, I wouldn't mind being able to cast all the spells in the players handbook...

Er, what you're referring to as existential nihilism isn't what Bob wished for. (Of course, what Bob wished for isn't logically possible. Something can't become nothing. He might as well have wished that 9 X 7 != 63 so he would have gotten a better grade on last week's multiplication test. =)) In any case, existential nihilism is exceedingly self-induldgent and hardly entails either suicide or mass extermination.

My wish.. I am torn between two things.

One, I would like some more time with my father.

Two, I would like to have one glimpse of my future...

Other than that.... nothing comes to mind. Except maybe I would wish that I get what it is I want most right now, which is something I will leave resonating in my own mind.

Definately money is what id wish for. Not so much other people would spend their time hating me(Bill Gates) but enough so i could live comfortably and help out anyone i wanted to on a whim without affecting me at all.

...money really can't buy happiness.

If money is all you have i could possibly agree. But when the only negatives in your life involve stresses about money id be willing to bet it does. If i didnt have to worry about shit getting turned off or deciding which bill to pay this month hoping to avoid that my life would get about 10billion times easier than it is now.

the funny thing is that the people that are studied after they win the lottery are people that had exactly those kinds of problems...and they still end up less satisfied with their lives. There are several studies on the issue and the overwhelming majority of people that aquire their wealth instantly end up...less happy.

it's an open question as to whether one's base level of happiness is genetic.

personally, I think a little more wealth wouldn't hurt me or my family.....

Thats weird but id wonder if the study was done by rich people :) Either way id be willing to risk being less happy and have no stress about bills i cant pay. Plus it would be nice to be able to answer the phone instead of just letting it ring cause i just know its a bill collector. I cant imagine how i could possibly be less happy. Even if you did end up less happy you would have the money to see a psychiatrist who can prescibe you drugs to make you happier :)

I think that the "Money doesn't make you happy" showed that once you could provide basic necessities, more money didn't make you (much) happier. Before that point, it did. If you have bill collectors hounding you because you just can't make your house/phone/electric payment (as opposed to $25k credit card bill payment), you're likely in the "Yes, money will make you happier" group. Of course, if you have bill collectors hounding you because you live so far out of your means that you've gotten yourself into trouble with credit cards and such, then you've already proven that money didn't buy you happiness.

Jorddyn, happy, but would take a couple mil :)

[Edited on 7-12-2004 by Weedmage Princess] True. With money comes different worries like long lost cousins whom you've never met calling you out of the blue to borrow a couple thousand. Other than that, I'd be willing to bet that money sure would help ease alot of lifes worries and stresses. Might not bring you happines but it sure would help me buy a small tropical island and be able to keep it full of beautiful babes running around in nothing but nipple covers.
