Im currently level 68 and I have a non-sighted 5x longbow and a ipantor composite bow which is the first sighted bow I've bought and plan to for a while. I hunted (squishy) starting at 48 fairly easy just walking in one day. At level 60 I started hunting the eye and taking down fire mages(squishy) fairly easy, dodging their casting and using vanish with a death here a there. I do and have alway hunted bandits (not so squishy anymore)solo, using my longbow most from the shadows and sometimes in the open if needed. I guess what I'm saying is at what point does one need to blow 30-50m on a heavily sighted bow, how it helps and against what critters ? Fusion>crit weighting or the other way around? If I had about 10-20 more mol, I may buy one? But honestly wondering from my stage, to cap and beyond how does sighting help? Worth getting something heavily sighted? Plan on being in plate by cap and being able to fire from hiding and open, then making a choice to keep both or go one way or another.

I don't think the jump up from ipantor to sephwir is worth it. The jump from composite to longbow might be...may not. I can't speak to sighting. I've never needed it but I only switched to ranged at cap. I would imagine sighting is best for classes that struggle to 2x perception and if you're level 20-50, or so. That's just a presumption on my part. I've heard that eventually sighting always becomes unnecessary.

Sighting is more useful at lower levels if you are aiming for body parts. Once you hit a certain threshold, you'll likely not even notice the benefit.

The reason sephwir sells for so much is because there really aren't any middle of the road items for archers. Anyone can hit 10x flaring without breaking a sweat. The super high end stuff tends to not move or be incredibly out of range. So while the benefit is super tiny, the coins need to go somewhere. And saying you've got your 10x, flaring and sighted archery equipment sounds super sweet. Sephwir is also a status symbol.

What kitsun said. Most people that have them tend to hold on to them. I know mine will probably never go up for sale. If you have the coin and afford it, it's a nice bonus. Just like dropping the coin to go from a 5 or 6 times enchanted weapon to an 8x one. Most likely you aren't going to notice a major difference, but you earn the coin so you have the option to upgrade (if you want). So to answer your last questions, I wouldn't kill myself to buy a sepwhir bow, but if the time comes and you got coin to spare it's not a horrible investment. I would recommend putting the money in armor and other things first however.

point of reference. One of my caps uses a 1x runestaff worth about 5k another has one worth 10's of millions.

My ranger is 45 and was fortunate enough to win a sephwir longbow.(drought run last year) It seems I am the prime age for it- I love it and its rare to not get one shot kills and I aim for the eye. I think I will get my old 4x LB and compare.
