View Full Version : Why women, cell phones, and talking are bad
Scott

When women talk, most tend to talk with their hands. So what's the worst possible thing a woman can do? Drive while talking on her cell phone. I'm coming home from work today and I see this car going all over the road. So I finally get around and see that it's a woman on her cell phone tucked between her ear and her hands are flying all over the place.
WOMEN, IF YOU CAN'T HOLD A CONVERSATION WITHOUT TALKING WITH YOUR HANDS, PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE AND TALK ON A CELL PHONE, THANK YOU.
Put your hands back on the wheel bitch and learn to talk without making caveman sign language.
cellphones are a terrible culprit in the hands of the lesser gender
p.s. kidding

yeah, they make the wireless headsets too. if you're female and you're dead set on talking on the phone while in the car, use some common sense.

Well said.
In this country its illegal to drive whilst using a mobile phone (handsfree are legal but discouraged). There is no additional clauses related to gender.
Using the phone when youre driving is stupid.

Oh! Police! Of course, there are female police. Do you think a smile will have no effect on a woman, then? You are ever so wrong!
HarmNone knows better
Just saying. I know a few female cops who are, at best, *overexcercising* their power a bit, and the power of men, women, animals and its could not possibly shred an ounce of reform within them. I've seen simple campus police bitches confiscating skate boards. Plus around my school, we have the real staties, who *I* couldn't crack a smile at for the life of me.

I get a sick little thrill out of seeing men bash women drives. Fact is, insurance rates are lower for females than for males in each age category. Why's that? Because - females cause/get into less accidents than males.
A 17-year old male will pay almost 1/3 MORE for car insurance than a 17-year old female.
My SUV is considered a moderate "risk" vehicle (mostly because it's a gass guzzler - it's one of the safest vehicles on the road as far as damage and injury goes) - but I pay less insurance per year than my husband does on his "safer less risky" tin can of a Honda. All because he's a man.
SUCKERS!

Hah someone missed my tirade a while back about people driving on cell phones. I have a headset that I use if I need to be on the phone when I drive.
I'm going to say just as many men are guilty of this as are women...and yes as Jazuela stated, in some states male drivers pay as much as 15% more than female drivers at the SAME age.
It's a known fact that once men [elderly men only are excluded from this] get behind the wheel of a car--especially one with a v6 or higher engine--they tend to lose what little common sense and better judgement they did have prior to. (which, being men, was a minute amount to begin with) They develop temporary amnesia where they forget what red traffic lights mean, what stop signs are, what the speed limit is and that the horizontal white line at an intersection represents the crosswalk, NOT the starting line where they can race other cars
Of course this temporary case of amnesia is miraculously overcome almost immediately once they hear the sounds of sirens and the glare of flashing police lights are visible in their rearview mirror.

Okay I have two problems with this.
1) who let the woman have a cell phone in the first place
2) what in the hell was she doing in a car, unless she was on her way to the grocery store she should have been in the kitchen
/end bad sexist joking

Artha if you put up a picture I didn't see it. Not all SUVs are worth driving - most aren't, in fact. But my old Explorer sport is solid steel construction and up against any tin can on the road, I'll be the only one who walks away.
This was built prior to air bags - the bane of motor vehicles.
Back to the topic at hand - I have a bumper sticker on the back of my truck:
HANG UP AND DRIVE
That sticker doesn't discriminate. Male, female, I don't care who you are. If your house is burning down, it won't stop burning just because someone called you to tell you about it. If your kid got arrested and is in jail, he ain't getting out any faster just because someone called you on your cell phone. If your spouse just got killed in a car wreck, he ain't coming back to life just because someone informed you on your cell phone.
There is no emergency that can't wait til you pull off the road. And if you're the one experiencing the emergency - and need to use your cell phone to tell someone about it - there's no reason why you have to keep driving. Pull over, call 911. Or better yet - get a CB radio and call over channel 19. It's free, it's fast, and you'll have every trucker within 15 miles ready to haul your car and your sorry ass out of the ditch within seconds.

Are they safe now???
Relatively.
Artha if you put up a picture I didn't see it.
I didn't. It was more a statement that while you might live, the other person probably won't. This isn't necessarily a good thing.

If the other person doesn't live, that's what they get for trying to rear-end 1500 pounds of steel, or not using their turn signals to let me know they're trying to get into my lane, and side-swiping me instead. NOT MY PROBLEM.
In spite of my "need to speed" I am an -extremely- responsible driver. Other than the speed limit - I obey the traffic laws. I actually STOP at stop signs. I use my turn signals when changing lanes. I keep a "1-car per 10 mph" distance from the car ahead of me, and I pay attention to ALL my mirrors to make sure some stunad isn't barrelling down on my ass.
I'm also insured, I change my own damned oil, fix my own damned flats, and know my way around an engine. Jazuela is *not* a girlie-kinda-delicate helpless girl.
And if you don't like the way I drive, get the fuck off the sidewalk :)

1 car per 10 MPH? Are you kidding, that means at 70 you're trying to keep a 7 car gap. That kind of gap on an interstate is just asking for people to cut in front of you and once they do you have to back off to keep your car length distance...
I give myself enough distance to stop and that's it. I don't let anyone in that doesn't use a signal they can eat shit.
The women are winning. This thread anyway

Dude, it doesn't matter if you have testicles or ovaries, if you're an uptight, angry driver, you suck. Me? I'm a laid back driver. I have witnesses. If somebody does something stupid, I'll mouth off (in the privacy of my own vehicle) but I would never do something that would indicate agression. In this day and age, passive drivers are the one that should be commended, and agressive drivers should be taken off the road.

That -IS- enough distance to stop safely. If the car ahead of you loses his transmission on the highway and his vehicle stops abruptly with absolutely no slow-down at all - if you are -not- keeping 1 car-length from him per 10 MPH you will run into his back end.
At higher speeds the car in front of you is more likely to skid, but he could skid in a circle and end up heading TOWARD you instead of off to the side or ahead.
In bad weather - especially when it -starts- raining and all the oil comes up onto the road surface, or in black ice conditions, you need an even wider gap to stop safely.
I can stop at shorter distances - I have anti-lock brakes and 4WD so I have a better chance of stopping safely. But I'd rather not risk my life or the lives of my passengers or the lives of the people ahead, behind, and to the side of me just because my risk is lower than theirs.
In addition I am already speeding, in most cases. I am going faster than is normally considered safe in traffic. The fact that I am capable of knowing my limits and driving RESPONSIBLY while speeding - is probably what's saving your life and the lives of half the idiots on the road today.
I'm pretty sure this week or the end of last week they made it illegal to drive in new jersey without a hands free set. I know it has been in certain towns areas for awhile now though.

Sorry Anticor but seven car lengths at 70 mph is probably not enough distance. In my opinion anyway but then again, I drive a big vehicle that takes a lot longer to slow down than an average sized car. And really, if you are going 70 mph on the interstate then traffic is probably not heavy enough to worry too much about people cutting you off.

Riding the Metro means never having to worry about car accidents.
Adversely, you have to worry about B.O.
<<And really, if you are going 70 mph on the interstate then traffic is probably not heavy enough to worry too much about people cutting you off.>>
In New Jersey I definitly do not find this to be true.

<insert cliched joke about New Jersey>
All I really have for comparison is Seattle. If you are able to miraculously drive 70 mph on the interstate here then traffic is pretty damn light. Regardless of the speeds involved I usually try to drive like the car in front of me might at any instant become a stationary brick wall. Works for me.

No no no.... You're missing the point. We already know driving with a cell phone is bad. However a hands-free set wouldn't help this woman. You know, when someone is talking about a circle, they make a circle with both hands like I didn't know what a circle was to begin with? That's what this woman was doing. She was taking her hands off the wheel to wave her hands around like the other person on the end could get a better understanding of her because he hands are showing what she means. She wasn't keeping a hand on the wheel because her hands were flailing around.

So far, Maimara's ahead on points, but judging from Sintik's last post, it doesn't seem like anyone is addressing the issue at hand.
I'd like to dispel the myth that you can drive 70 mph in seattle. Even if there is no traffic three people will team up and drive 55 side by side on the interstate.

WA has the highest rate of road rage incidents in the nation. They have a sign saying such somewhere here on post, I remember when i first got here (when I didn't drive) going "I wonder why that is" Then I got my car and seriously wanted to stab people in the eye. And I'm usually a pretty calm guy.

Hmm, I disagree. I will agree that females get INTO less accidents, but they certainly cause more. My great aunt pays left insurance than I do, but it isn't because she's a better driver. Or are you trying to say that old people pay less cause they cause less accidents, too?

You don't understand statistics, do you? Female "drivers" get in fewer accidents because the man is always holding the car keys. Women don't drive, but they pay insurance anyway to subsidize their chaueffers! Suckers! =)

<WA has the highest rate of road rage incidents in the nation.>
I had someone once start throwing coins at my windshield on the freeway. The guy must have given up 2 or 3 dollars in change before I was able to manuever to the exit and out of the line of fire
And I would just like to add this to the discussion:
According to the Washington State Insurance Commissioner, insurance rates are determined by the following factors:
Age: Drivers under the age of 30 are charged higher rates because statistics show they have more accidents per mile.
Gender: Males under the age of 30 are charged higher rates than females because they are involved in more accidents per mile than any other demographic.
Car: Sports cars and high performance cars cost more to insure because they are involved in more accidents, they cost more to repair, and they are more likely to be stolen.
Location: If you live in a heavily populated area, you will most likely pay a higher premium (amount you pay to your insurance company). If you move, you should immediately inform your company about the change.
Driving Pattern: If you use your car more, you will have to pay more.
Driving History/ Claims History: Your rates increase for every accident and claim made
As a general rule, drivers under age 25 have more accidents than older drivers, so they pay more. Drivers between 50 and 65 years of age have low accident rates and are sometimes offered discounts. Past the age of 65, accidents seem to increase and rates generally begin to rise again. People over 70 may have trouble finding an insurer to accept them as a new customer, and when they do find coverage, it may be expensive.
