Because of the new changes that opened punch, grapple and kick mastery to warriors and rogues, along with the reduction of armor penalties using UAC and the ability to train away held weapon and shield penalties... what makes monks all that better/different than a warrior or a rogue. The training costs are pretty much the same. Monks have the minor mental circle but other than that, wouldn't it make just as much sense to brawl as a rogue or warrior now?

If you're going to ignore one of the major differentiating factors between the square type classes, then yes, there does not seem to be much of a difference. I think even beyond the UCS masteries, their CML stances are actually set up to utilize the style of combat better.

They really should have kept punch, grapple and kick mastery to monks. They should open up a couple of warrior only CMs like parry and block mastery to a few other classes.

I'm not even sure that the minor mental circle is even helpful for monks, to be honest. It costs me 38 MTPs to train my monk in minor mental. They are squares, afterall...by the time I picked up two ranks of minor mental, I had converted so many PTPs to MTPs that I couldn't recover them all by the time it was time to train again!

I don't know...maybe put prereqs on it for the other professions, but I think opening it up is fine.

Rolling krynch, inner harmony, perfect self, 1202, 1209, 1210, 1212, 1225, 1235.

To be honest, krynch by itself makes monks 10x better at UAC than warriors. The ability to transfer tiers to multiple targets and play them off each other is not to be underestimated.

I think monks are gonna have to train more like a hybrid than people are realizing. Spells are gonna be very important along with at a minimum .5x in ML Transformation for 30 ranks at level 50 (then you could potentially slack off on them until near cap if you want to stay in torso chain). Keeping a .5x in spells until 1220 and 120 also seems a must. We'll especially need the td from 120 and increased td from 1208 with minor mental spell ranks.

Agreed, I view my monk to be more on par with a paladin than a warrior with regard to training style, in that spells and a lore are so critical to the class as a whole. The stances definitely set the monks a significant step ahead over the rest of UCS users. I think combat-wise that doesn't make them better. I think, if anything, they're weaker than the other squares. I am really, really liking the UCS, though. It makes combat a lot more interesting, again. I really enjoy Flurry of Blows, the extra jabs that create tiering on critters you've not even targeted yet is very nice. I think the most successful non-monks using the UCS will be the ambushers...rogues and rangers.

I agree. HIDE, Aim neck, GRAPPLE, say good night, hide, target another mob, GRAPPLE NECK. When everyone is asleep, start punching fayces.

At 30, I'll be in 'studded leather' via 1202. Depending on if I feel the need to add spells up to 1220 at that point, I think I'll either go with spells to 1220 (maybe a little mo HP) or 15 more ranks of lore for brig. Started off only being able to afford 2x dodge/PF, but from lvl 19 on I'm going 3x and will eventually catch up later to full 3x. I'll also most likely drop ambush soon. I was going to start 1x until I felt I'd be able to reliably aim without it, but now that I'm caught up to 2x CM, I think I'm doing well enough that I can probably just forget about it.
