Wanted to start a thread so people could share their monk builds.

I'll go first. This is just a "for the heck of it" build to see if I could make use of the Minor Mental warding spells and still maintain enough ability to hunt with the UCS.

So far so good...

Basically 2x in brawl, CM, PF, dodge, 1x in harness, perception, survival, FA. 1x in climb and swim until such time as I feel I have enough to be safe for a while. Climbing the GY gate is a goal. Spells when I can, but no big rush on them right now.

Looks like all of you guys train in perception. Is that for any particular reason?

1) Certain areas in the game require some amount of perception to find the entrances/etc.

2) It helps to prevent DS pushdown from bandits ambushing you.

3) Blind monk is blind.

I don't understand why you guys don't put more into logic for your first 30 days. It will help you level faster...

Because, for me at least, with a few exceptions, I'm too lazy to go back and change it, or I forget, so I try to set my stats up right the first time.

Thanks for this. I'm just coming back to the game and I'm so out of the loop when it comes to building characters now. I'm getting ready to roll up a new Erithian Monk; I'm thinking about converting Haohmaru from warrior to monk when/if they allow it. But I'll only do it if I can fit in two-handed training, so that he can still use his katana at certain times.

Squeezing THW training in would probably be difficult considering the cost for monks. You might be better off considering being a warrior who brawls.

It's definitely worth looking into. If an out of the box character is viable, they usually tend to be the most fun. At least they are for me.

Has anyone figured out what the mana stat(s) are for Monks yet? I know Krakiipedia lists Discipline/Wisdom, though for some reason my Monk only has as many max mana as her 5 ranks of Harness Power allow (15), though she has a total bonus of 25 between her Discipline and Wisdom bonuses.

Hmm, well Logic is the CS/TD stat for minor mental spells and Wisdom is the same for minor spirit. The other classes seem to mirror the casting stats of their spell lists are their mana stats, so maybe its those two.

Yeah - I think you may be right on the Logic/Wisdom avenue for mana stats now that I look at my stats again.

Her Logic + Wisdom bonus together is 6. 6/4 = 1.5 (round down to 1).

I think I'll use my last stat reallocation to rejigger her stats to favor Logic a bit more so she has a teensy bit more maximum mana and better Mental CS/TD.

Thanks for posting your various stats/skill training stuff - it'll help me in figuring the final arrangement for my Monk.

The only thing I see that I've done different, off hand, is that I've put my Intuition a bit higher as I believe it figures in evasion?

Currently working on fixing my monk's stats since I'm almost at the end of my 30 days. The main question is, can anyone find a use for influence? It seems to be the CS stat for minor mental, but I don't really foresee using CS spells too much. Am I missing anything?

Well, INF and DIS are part of the formula for the Voln success resolution powers. And hmm, warcry defense. Think that's about it, though its sometimes more efficient to put points into it instead of INT for cap stats.

If I can find a halfling to buy I'm looking at:

2x brawl
2x CM
1x PF
3x dodging
.4x climb/swim
1x perception
1x first aid
1x survival
.25x HP
.6x spells

At 40 this leaves me with 37 MTP and a very constant increase in MTPs for me to increase spells, pickup lores, and move HP up a bit. All with stats set to cap.

I'm going to build him like I did my hybrid ranger and up spells as quick as possible. If you don't get hit you don't need higher armor. A halfling + the minor spirit spells has pretty good all around TD and with a focus on Voln that will be handy against undead. My DS should be pretty damn good with 3x dodge + spells + halfling agi. This is all theorycrafting, of course. I'm too lazy to crunch numbers.

Not really sure about having 103 this early, but I've got lots of time left in my 30 days. 2 ranks of emastery, 1 rank of kick mastery, 1 rank of combat toughness and 1 rank of krynch stance are my current CM's.

I plan on singling spells up to 1220 and 103 (possibly 107 depending on how my TD and bolt defense shake out). Once I hit those spell goals I'll drop spell training and start working lores, MIU, AS, etc.

Is there a character builder that takes into account monks out there? I want to work on a capped character I have that I plan to convert.
