How old does a bard need to be in order to have a chance at a sucessful hunt in Nelemar?

Kind of depends on your build and if you get lichbane talismans to negate being feared by the undead in the temple. Most people don't start until 90 or a little after and even then it can be rough for a couple levels while you figure things out.

What amount of swimming training are people doing for Nelemar? I have 48 ranks now, is that sufficient?

I think 50 ranks will get you in, but the more the better. Creatures there use a drowning maneuver attack that can kill you if it isn't interrupted, and swimming skill helps against it. The spells of Purify Air and Water Walking will also grant phantom swimming ranks, so if you have access to those spells and can wear them without spellburst I would suggest doing so.

If you're in voln you don't need to swim to get in because of seeking, but you still need to swim out to rescue a child! Fun times

Symbol of seeking, Teleportation of member or member's group from a voln outpost to an undead hunting area within the general vicinity. No favor cost. KP as always is a good reference: http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_voln#Order_of_Voln_Symbols

No idea if it works in the other rooms, I just use the room that symbol of return takes you to, while in the room type symbol of seeking, it will show you a location, type it again to change location and type symbol of seeking confirm as per the instructions and it will take you to the room you looked in on last. On Teras, there are three choices, wind wraiths, soul golems, or the temple.
