I think this is very misleading. Each profession has different needs.

Cleric in CoL for Wracking.

Rogue in Voln for F.. erm.. uh.. Drea.. ah.. Symbol of Sight. Yeah, that's the ticket. I need to see what other people are doing all the time.

I have a Square in Voln, a Pure in CoL... and a lot of Lone Wolves 'cause going through the societies is a PITA. Though I do have a baby Cleric I may take up through CoL eventually.

Curious. Are there any capped players that go without society affiliation for RP purposes?

I am pure Voln, although told go CoL for entire life here. I did it for rescue purposes

Wizard in COL. Wracking was never much of a factor beyond spellups, and nowadays (91) I hardly use it. But the long sign duration, complete lack of upkeep work, and long-reigning highest boosts will keep me in COL, even though Voln is sort of attractive now.

Cleric and wizard are Voln masters. The new monk might be...might go CoL.
Both empaths are CoL (both under level 30).
I've got a ranger that's CoL, along with a rogue and warrior.
Galenok (bard) and a warrior are in Sunfist.

All the less than level 20's are generally part way through CoL. Overall, I prefer CoL for the most characters and widest variety. Voln is still a bitch to master (pre-review) and tying your hunting to undead for a significant portion of your hunting just blows...even if the new powers are awesome. Sunfist just isn't for everyone. I'd say I'd be inclined to start almost all characters in CoL, switching to Sunfist near or at cap for most. Those that are in Voln should start it early and stick with it once there, especially with the new power that teleports you to the hunting areas.

I think every character I owned/played was CoL except a warrior and a paladin that were in Voln. I probably quit before Sunfist was a thing.

I'm the same way.. my first warrior back in early '93 ish was a volner until I lost him on the GY gate then I built my first rogue after that, late '93, and he was too until I found out about the bathhouse then I think all my builds went Col except I put my new monk in Voln although I'm not sure how long i'll keep him there.

i haven't decided about my monk yet, but i'm leaning towards voln for the same reason i started a monk...its something new and different and therefore I would enjoy it merely for the chance at something I haven't experienced yet
