So, I had asthma when I was younger and it magically disappeared at age 7'ish only to come back around 22. I thought this was a load of horse-shit and did some reading and found some articles suggesting that a bacteria strain known as clhamydia pneumoniae (not the STD one) could be linked to asthma. Now, I'm generally very skeptical of things on the interwebs but I really fucking hate having asthma and I'm tempted to find a doctor to prescribe me three months of antibiotics to see if it helps.

well that's like saying a nail is responsible for every cut everyone has. There are tons of things that trigger asthmatic episodes.. from cold air, sports, irritants etc.. one of the very common ones that people tend to over look is acid reflux. Unless the lab results have come back indicating you do indeed have this strain of bacterial infection you should not take antibiotics.

Not even sure how to go about getting a test. Hey doc, test me for chlamydia, but not the STD one, yo.

That would be how.
You sit down with your Dr and ask.

Guess I should get a real doctor, then. I've got some freshly graduated doctor filling asthma prescriptions for me once a year. I go in, hand over $20, he says hi, gives me the script, and I'm out.

anyone who has been through any medical schooling and/or micro biology understands the different strains of bacteria. There are different methodologies for specimen collection of which the doctor/nurse will know how to collect and the lab can easily test and identify these varying strains. Most likely your doctor will be able to determine during a consultation if there is any reason to suspect this type of bacterial infection or not. Even if he doesn't you can still ask him to have the labs done. A doctor pumping out asthma medicine on a month x month basis is not uncommon since most asthma is usually a life long disease and not breathing complications as a side effect of infection.
