Yo. Going to ask the internet for advice again.

When I was a kid I used to watch market trends and read up on companies and stuff when my mom would invest. She never listened to me and always lost money. I am hoping to not lose money in such a spectacular way.

My question to you, PC, is this- is it worthwhile to go through a real broker to avoid the hassle of actually doing things myself, or are E-trade and others so simple to use that even my half-monkey brain can manage it without trouble?

I use TD Ameritrade. It's simple enough to do on your own.

I use Schwab, and ditto what PB said. There's no point paying a broker 100 bucks a trade when you can click buttons and make the trade by yourself for 10 bucks.

Scottrade. $7 trades, no hidden fees. If you're transfering an IRA account, they'll even cover some of the fee costs up to like 50 or 100.

At e-trade, they match your personality on 31 dimensions so you can find that special stock that's just right for you.

I had to use E-trade when I inherited some stocks. I was not happy...

I use TD Ameritrade as well. Just don't do a bunch of small dinky trades or change your mind frequently, or you'll rack up the trade fees.
