View Full Version : Warmaging at 68 and enchanting

So, I'm wondering if I'll still be able to do 7x with a warmage build at 68.
Basically looking at:
1x Weapons, CM, HP, AS, MIU, Perception
2x Spell Aim
35 Armor (LBP)
24 PF
50 EMC
40 MjE
61 MnE
30 Wiz
24 Air Lore
25 Climbing
That leaves me 16 PTP...
That seems to be a rough guess on what I'll need for Warmage Viability but can I still do 7x and, if not, what can I switch around so I don't gimp myself and still have a pretty decent success rate? At the moment, I don't care about Sanctified/Enhancive articles.
Thanks for the help in advance.

I don't see why not. I never did a project past 5x but you've got, in my opinion, plenty of magic skills/spells to do past that with a relatively low risk of failure. Maybe longer tempers/pours than a full pure? Not sure if your skills factor into that but if so I think that would be the full pure benefit; faster turn around on projects.

The only thing that bugs me is the 30 Wizard ranks. They're the most important factor. I'd guess that you could do 7x easily with 50. With 30, I'm not so sure.

How much combat effectiveness might I lose by swapping around some spell ranks?

A lot. I assume you're going heavy MnE for 425/430 bonus and if you curbed that back 20 ranks well you're going to see a noticeble difference.

Indeed, I was thinking of taking it out of MjE - I know I saw a break down somewhere of what a rank of each means mechanically to the wizard in terms of DS/TD/AS, etc.
Just can't seem to find it now.

From Krakiipedia:
"Historically, wizards would overtrain their Wizard Base ranks to achieve more skill at enchanting. In the most recent revision of the spell, benefits from Wizard Base ranks were given diminishing returns."
Does this sound right? I've only done a few enchants over 4x.

There is diminished returns, but he isn't even near overtrained. Even with overtraining, 1 wizard spell rank will always be worth more then anything else.

Gotcha. Thanks.

There was no change for Wizard base ranks up to 1.5 per level. Only the value of ranks greater than 1.5 per level were reduced, but even those ranks are ≥ any other factor.

Mark, did you put together a brief summary of what each rank of each circle means in terms of AS/DS/TD, etc?
I have been looking for it for three days now and can't seem to locate it. It didn't occur to me to search your threads until just now but if you know it or have it available, that'd be swell :axe:

At some point, I crunched out this (assuming all all spells are known):
MjE: 0.75 DS, 0.5 AS per rank
MnE: 0.5 DS, 0.5 AS per rank
Wiz: 1.25 Ds, 0.33 TD per rank
There's only about a half dozen spells in the elemental sphere which scale with training. Not that hard to crunch it out on your own. 503, 507, 513, 425, 430, 905, 913, I think.

Heh. Saved it in an email draft at some point so I had it handy.
The caveat is that (I think) all of the spells give ETD and that STD is half that or something or-other. Also some 513 grants bolt AS, 425 physical AS. Anyway, there's details not covered but for a basic bolt build, it's a decent guideline.

After review I believe that I will keep the same training
1x - THW/CM/AS/MIU/HP/Perc
35 Armor
50 EMC
24 Air Lore
30 Climbing
24 PF
Spells:
MjE - 30
MnE - 60
Wiz - 40
This addresses the concern of 30 Wiz ranks and I will push it to 50 slowly while increasing the "must haves" of the build as well as additional spell ranks (MnE to 67) then start working MjE and Wizard.
If I meet some catastrophic failure I'll report back. I'm betting this will have some usefulness to future generations should the thresholds prove unreliable.
