this thing called ACTalert keeps on saying it needs to be closed. I don't know if this is some windows program or what not, but it's fucking annoying cause I am clicking close and the bastard dies, again and again and again.

:help:

Just go under your services and stop it.... then find and delete it from your system.

Link, Stanley, to the product information. You've downloaded this puppy somewhere along the line.

I can't uninstall it for some reason, the directory that the website you posted said it was installed in doesn't exist, and I can't even do a run command to open it?

You can't unistall it because it's in use on your computer. Go to start, RUN, type MSCONFIG. Then go to services, find the program, click it, and click stop.

Did you try looking for the file name they gave on the site (ACTCMD.INI )? Also, try a control-alt-delete to see what's running. Find that one and click on End Task. That will stop it, but if it's loading at startup, you'll have to find it in MSConfig and uncheck it.

Here's a link for you, Stanley. Apparently, this little number is hell to get rid of. This link will tell you what you have to do to get it out of your system.

From what I'm reading, this little demon changes names anytime you try to do anything with it. Lovely little critter it be. :D

I tried deleting everything in the folder, but when I went to processes to stop it, it said

This operation something

Access is denied?

Read the next to the last post on the last site I gave you a link for, Stanley. It explains why you're having trouble getting rid of this thing. You may want to download and run Hijack This in safe mode and send your log to that site for analysis. Or, you can take a look at the Hijack This log yourself, but it's probably safer to let the big guns look for you. They're used to reading that stuff and know what oughta be there and what's hopped on for a free ride. :)

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY FUCKING HATE SPYWARE and ADWARE/POPUPS. It ranks right up there with SPAM. The government needs to take action on this shit, and soon. There is a special place reserved in hell for the fucktards that find new ways of ruining my internet experience every day.

I hate the stuff, too, Blazing. Just got through emptying my computer of a pot-load of the stuff. :grr:

You know what's cool?

The fact that FireFox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/why/) doesn't have ActiveX, which means this crap can't get downloaded to your computer without your permission.

<I hate the stuff, too, Blazing. Just got through emptying my computer of a pot-load of the stuff. >

I have found that by using, simultaneously, AdAware, AdWatch, Zone Alarm Pro, Google Toolbar Popup Blocker (the best I've seen), and Micro Trend Internet Security, I am all but impervious to these things.

I've got copies of these if you need em HN.

I have all of them except Microtrend now, Blazing. I've got Norton up, and also SpyBot. Seems to be working like a charm. :)

I tried Norton for a hot second, and PandaVirus Platinum...but nothing beats Trend.

I'll take a look at that one, Blazing. Thanks for the tip! Norton is an infamous resource hog.:baa:

HarmNone is aware of that...

Aha! That's why I have seen less of them on my computer recently (and for "less" read "none").

I think it was on these forums that someone mentioned Mozilla and I DLed firefox to try it and havent looked back since.

Blocks all pop-ups too, which is lovely jubbly.

When I used IE, I made sure I did a regular scan with Hijackthis! and deleted any shit that wasnt supposed to be there.
