Switching to Pure

I'm switching to pure from swinging a maul and have quite a few questions.

1. Does the defense from an enchant effect you in offensive stance? Krakki says "a Runestaff significantly enhanced via Enchant Item (925) is often not worth it because the bonus decreases to near-zero in offensive stance."

2. What should I look for in a runestaff? High enchant (previous question will probably answer this), flares, or enhancives? I was thinking MMC, Spell aiming, or Spirit lore Summoning (I plan to use 111).

You want 8 ranks for doubles. If you plan on using mostly 111, you can cut back the empath spells to your level and put those points towards more summoning and blessing lores. Or maybe just cut the spell ranks back, and not the spend the points in anything, so you can see what your CS looks like and go from there. And looking at your stats, ouch on that horrible dex bonus, that is the stat that affects your bolt AS and as an empath and a giantman, it really won't get any better. A lot of people will likely laugh at you for bolting given that, but you could still manage it. I'd suggest finding a wizard and getting 513 imbeds to help.

And yes, Krakii information on runestaves is outdated, the enchant of your runestaff is now directly added to DS and no longer part of the parry DS formula. Hunting warcamps, you'd probably get the most use out of a fire flaring runestaff. The higher the enchant the better but outside the occasional 5x critter drop, raffle wins and the like, you aren't going to find anything above 4x.

Yeah...I just really don't want to have to just use 1106 and 1115. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't been a giantman.

It isn't so much your race that is the problem but your stat placement, dex isn't a fast growing stat for an empath like it is for a wizard, and being a giantman it grows even slower. If it was placed to hit 100 by cap it really wouldn't be an issure but seeing as you are 38 already, I doubt it will even hit 70 and your bonus will probably end up being 4, instead of the 20 it could be if you had placed your stats better.

When I had rolled this guy like 5 years ago it wasn't in my plan to go caster, but now i'm way bored of swinging. It's all i've ever done with any of my characters (except my ranger archer). I'm going to get a fixstat when I can, but that likely won't be until cap unless I fork over the silvers for it. Thanks as always for your input Jeril.

So I swapped but left some points available in case I need to add to something. My bone shatter doesn't seem to instant kill much at all, so was thinking about getting some manipulation lore. Thoughts?
