Mistomeer or whatever...

Perhaps a letter to me to either confirm or deny some vicious allegations would have been in order before you go and post something that obviously you have no knowledge of, but instead, you'd rather just spin the web further.

I've publicly stated here on these boards, that the reason I left Simutronics employment was something neither they nor I wanted to talk about openly. I left it as a difference in philosophical differences and some of you on the uptake were very astute in your emails to me and caught on.

I left Simutronic's employ on March 24th, 2004. I have no idea what altering session that Starsnuffer was involved with, or when, or how, but I can assure you that had nothing at all to do with my decision.

In the future, perhaps you would worry more about your real lives and your day to day events more then worrying about some inconsequential game that you choose to pay $480.00 per year or more on.

To Mr. Parkbandit. Yes sir, a decision was made with regard to my website. I took it down.

I was faced with a decision to make with regards to an offer on the table to purchase it lock stock and barrel. I chose not to sell it, and in fact, chose to shut it down as opposed to letting Simutronics benefit from the advertising.

A short history about the site... it was opened on June 17th, 1997 and was going to be an auction site for Gemstone items for ingame silvers. About that time, Ciston's player Ken decided to start making money buying and selling things for cash, which ended up leading me to not put up the auction site for fear of people thinking that they'd be able to buy things for cash. Instead, I made it into a workshop for players to learn how to roll up, RP, and enchant like a wizard.

The sites popularity grew when I posted Simucon pictures on it and even one year (I think it was 2000) we had a link to listen to Simucon live. Since 2000, over 2 million hits occured and for that I'm grateful to have the opportunity to let people learn about GS3.

My game, Gemstone 3 is gone. Yes, the shell of the game is there, but the rest of it has long since disappeared. Gone are the GMs that really made the game fun. Gone are the scary times where you're hunting for your very life. (In game life that is. It's just not the same for me. So I've closed my site and havn't logged Celtic or any of my other characters into the game in over 3 months. I've stepped back into the real world of touching and feeling what's around me. ( You can read that as I bought a house and have TONS OF FREAKING YARDWORK!). I spend more time reading, hanging out with friends instead of burying myself into a computer screen. Heck, my IMs are almost never on anymore when I'm on the computer because frankly I'm not interested in talking about GS.

So there ya go. Hope that clears things up. If it doesn't, well, believe what ever it is you want to believe, because like I said earlier that some of you can't live a day without some sort of conspiracy theory and it makes you feel important "being in the loop".

This is one case, I can tell you that you are no where near the loop.

Have fun kids.

I sure did.

Alan.

I will agree there is a bit of arrogance to him, but that has always been the case.

He has a valid point in arguing that character sales have turned much of the game into a shell of what it once was. At the same time, the game may likely not have survived without them (except by raising prices quite a bit and turning the society back to the 100-150 per day that it used to be when AOL was by the hour)

Alan,

Thanks for your insight in wizardry and GS. I used your site to roll up my very first wizard (first character) back in 98, as well as repeat references for information I always seem to be searching for since then.

Good luck on the new house thing, I'm one year into owning my first home and have really enjoyed the landscaping aspect of it... its like a Zen thing now for me.

I'm sure you've already sold your items to Snuffy, as he took over for Ciston, but if you didn't I'd be interested in buying a relic or two.

Since you're so sure...

Any wager in mind?

Celtic, his items, etc, will stay with Celtic. I won't loan them, give them, (ala Jim, sorry bro) or do anything else to them other then keep them with him.

Thanks for the farewell. Tho I never said that I'm leaving, or disappearing. Just that I found something more to do with my personal life. But in case some of you are skimmers...

"In the future, perhaps you would worry more about your real lives and your day to day events more then worrying about some inconsequential game that you choose to pay $480.00 per year or more on. "

Worry more about your real lives, then about some rumour of some GM doing one thing or another when all you know about is the rumour, and nothing about what occured.

Conspiracy theories...

Gotta love them liberals.

Heh! Ah well, shame to see the nice items sit there and rot, but take care anyway Celtic. You got one thing right, the Gemstone of old is dead and gone.

Alan, I missed singing "We are the World" in the dinner line at Simucon with you.
Aside from that.. enjoy RL. I know I am.

wow 3 months lurking as a guest on this board before you could post that long post by someone not interested in talking about GS.

Enjoy your short time "in the loop here on the board"

I will bump this thread later when your shit starts showing up at the cash sales.

I don't know you, so I'm not going to write you a letter. Also, I don't really care. I was simply curious, so I asked a simple question.

You go on with some more pointless drivel, but I find it ironic, if not hypocritical, for you to talk down to those who pay $480.00 for something that is an "inconsequential game." Afterall, you made this game a part of your day to day life, and got more involved than most players ever will, or ever care to.

Heh -- I find it interesting how people read and tend to see what they want to see in things. Sort of like an inkblot, isn't it? Nowhere in Alan's post do I see him even remotely suggest that character sales are what make the Gemstone of today no longer the Gemstone of yesterday.

Anyways .. enjoy Alan - I'm truly someone who couldn't give a rats ass why you left, I'm just bummed that another GM with a sense of GS history is gone. Maybe you can bring Celtic in sometime and sell disks. <smirk>

I agree, Prestius. Nowhere in Alan's post do I see character sales blamed for the changes to GemStone. Personally, I agree with Alan. GemStone has changed from the game I knew and enjoyed to something I would really have no desire to play. When looking for a reason, character sales don't really enter into it. It's more the general philosophy of the game that morphed to something not for me.

I left the game several years ago, and have never been back. I understand completely what Alan is saying, I just came to the decision earlier than he did.

Enjoy yourself, Alan. Of course, once you have a house to take care of that becomes more difficult, unless you enjoy large expenditures of money, an aching back and dirty fingernails. :)

It's a shame people don't understand that you CAN play GS and have a life. Some people just get too immersed in things they're interested. It's a damn shame.

And yea... I second the post about another GS-nerd leaving the game then acting "too good" for it afterwards. Way funny.

Alan,

I always had some respect for you, and you are doing your leaving the classy way, by not feeding the trolls. Sometimes saying nothing fuels the fire, but so be it.

And John--As far as him posting, he's been here a while, and has posted a number of times before on this.
