Best I can do so far... the table maker isn't working on the upgraded forum and the table function in the post wasn't working properly. I am working to correct this. If you use Firefox and it looks screwed up... I don't know why Firefox is displaying it oddly but it kind of looks right on MSIE and Chrome.

Good then. We'll go with it as is for now. I couldn't get it to display the rows without adding the blank column, the entire first column shouldn't be centered but is, despite not having center code for each cell, also the table as a whole should have been centered but isn't... and that does have the center code surrounding it. Anyone know vBulletin well enough to figure out why it's doing like this?

Droughtman says, "These brooches will check on your health regularly, and if they find you stunned, they will unstun you. They will do this 40 times, and then they will crumble. You can activate or deactivate them by RUBing them, if you don't want to risk using charges. They drain a small amount of your mana while worn, and active.""."

For those wondering

I don't see what's wrong with doing that. It's a great item for people that aren't paladins or warriors and not every item can be insanely awesome. There's gotta be some risk/reward and you certainly don't want the market flooded with high end items.

I don't know.. paying 22.50 for something insanely temp is just stupid. At the LEAST they should be non-crumbly and merchant rechargeable. Or the way I would do it is rechargeable at 1 charge per day that it's turned "off".

I know non of you people care about DR at all, but there are what they call stun hiders there, then when stunned, they activate and auto hide you. Also have hp healers as well that pulse hp. These are end loot for a 15$ quest, not even limited really. Unlimited uses of the items.

I don't think a unstun brooch that's merchant rechargeable or self charging VERY slowly would be game breaking.

It's much more likely a lazy ass GM's idea of a good item. Just like the fish I won last round. Waterwalking.. really? May as well have been a spell store self charger.

Archigeek
06-16-2012, 01:29 AM
The water walking fish was kind of cool I thought. If you lived in the right place or hunted the right place it was useful. If not, well then it wasn't much use to you, but it was a reasonable prize. These on the other hand are weak. Anything that crumbles sucks as a prize, because it encourages people not to use it! What's the point?

Androidpk
06-16-2012, 01:31 AM
Merchant rechargeable MAYBE but self charging definitely no. Having a bunch of items with what is basically a level 35 spell in the case of paladins seems pretty game breaking to me. Again, there should be some risk/reward in this mini-game. Buying a ticket shouldn't be an automatic guarantee that you're going to walk away with something totally awesome.

droit
06-16-2012, 01:35 AM
Fuck. Those unstunning brooches could have been awesome if they were activated instead of automatic. So many of those charges will be wasted on one or two round stuns. As they are, they're pretty lame.

I think 1x a day with the restrictions on use that it has now would not be game breaking. Merchant rechargable would be alright too, though in some ways even more powerful than 1x a day self-charging. Crumbly is lame though, either way you look at it. Why go to the trouble to create something and then make it such that people are discouraged from using it?

Jarvan
06-16-2012, 01:39 AM
Risk/Reward doesn't directly apply here since Simu isn't selling the items directly themselves. I'm sorry.. but if I pay $ for something, I feel I should get something worth that cash. Unless Simu is claiming this is a gambling event with real life cash, in which case I wonder how the fed would look at it.

The fact that Players value a suit of armor more then a frilly dress is one thing, and that's not simu's fault. But an item that poofs on you? There is really no point in taking it, would just be smarter to stick it back in the pile, take a glad, and screw over someone else farther down the line since the item would be pullable again.

or.. if they want to put crumbly or limited items in the hopper.. Make it a freaking fixskills/fixstats, or better yet, a XXX potion. Drink potion to start new XXX. Useful, and not game breaking. The other screwed up thing.. it's a paladin 35 spell.. or part of the bard 50 spell.

And how do you explain those healing tokens from last year? Full heal a day, never crumble. Wouldn't that be more game breaking then a n unstuner that slowly recharges over time?

I wouldn't pay 3mil for a brooch that might unstun me and eventually crumble after 40 times of doing so.

I wouldn't pay anything for it as it is.

It's a neat idea with a shitty implementation.

They aren't? You buy a ticket, you get an item. It's a lottery system. Simu doesn't sell items for cash, which is why they don't about the cash/silver equivalent. You buy a ticket for the right to participate in the event, win coins, end up with an item regardless of if you win or lose the event, and have the chance to move on to the next round at no charge to do it all over again.

The amount of coins people pull in from a maze run usually ends up covering the cost of the ticket so..

The unstun brooch was a prize from Foehn's Promise '05. Same deal except with 100 charges. Still crumbly though. It was an even more awful prize back then because FP was so expensive. Still pretty crappy.

The item is a consolation prize, it's isn't the reason your paying 22.50.. exactly. Your paying to try to win the end prize.

Thanks for stating what I already said.

Jarvan
06-16-2012, 03:12 AM
But the consolation prize is not the risk/reward.

If anything, they really should all be the same. Or at least give every participant the option of 1 out of say 10-20 items. As it stands, 90%-100% of the people do the event for the consolation, not the end prize.

This then creates the problem where people that end up with items the gm's think are "cool" but in reality suck feel shafted.

That being said.. any item from a pay event should NEVER be crumbly. It's just stupid.

The unstun brooches sound like a better prize than an unnavable gold ring. Wasn't that the consolation prize from the original runs? I rarely lose a ring, so that would be almost worthless to me.

I'd buy the brooches when they come up for sale, granted I'd only pay a million or so, but they're not worthless.

The true consolation prize is the GALD scroll you can get if you turn your prize back in. So if you get a brooch and really don't want it, just turn that sucker back in and get your GALD.

Oh, I don't doubt it. I just don't find them very valuable, whereas an unstun item would help me when those thieves tweak my nose for 8 rounds. In my case, I only ring out because I can always voln fog in. I don't carry any coins when I head out, so I rarely get naved. Now with ;go2 I don't even really need the ring if I have an extra 2 minutes to spend. I would certainly sell the ring if I won that, but I would probably use the brooch, unless of course the value rose.

And I realize this, but I just think that if the expectation is that everyone gets a $100 prize and some people get $500 prizes, then the event is grossly under priced. My last round, my character received an item I sold for 11m. I was glad to get that, but would have been happy with the brooch. Yes, my first round I got a super prize, but in order for someone to win big, lots of people need to win smaller.

Your equating PC selling of items with GS where they don't really condone selling of items for cash. I mean, you can't exactly broadcast on thoughtnet "selling brooch for 100$ cash". But anyway.. OUR value of the items is not THEIR value. That being said.. any GM that thinks a crumbly prize is justified for a pay event consolation prize, should be spade or neutered.

It's like the 40 use drinkable enhancives from the first run, just stupid.

If you want to sell your item, fine.. but if you want to keep it is a reminder of the fun time you had in the maze.. something crumbly becomes unuseable.

You know what, I'll gladly trade my brooch (unless Simu changes it heh) for any other prize from this DM run. It always frustrates me how when only a few people are affected by something crappy that so many people on the internets have zero empathy for them. I guarantee that anyone pulling one of these brooches will be just as pissed off no matter what they've posted in this thread.

When everyone was going to get a crappy 20-50 use gold ring with the original mini run idea the shit hit the fan and rightly so. When its just what, 8 people, affected then the unlucky ones have to hear about how they took their chances just like everyone else. Except that everyone else isn't leaving with an item that will destroy itself if they use it.

That's the problem. Literally any other prize would be better, even the fluff rp crap that I detest. At least it would exist in a few months.

Crumbly is the real kick in the dick there. Like somebody suggested, self charge once a day or something, persistent, and all of a sudden they're a neat little item that isn't game breaking and won't spawn a thread on the PC about how bad they suck...

Jarvan
06-16-2012, 01:33 PM
I wonder what the people that say that all these items can't be awesome or what not would say if the spiffy new armor won or weapon they pulled were to crumble after 40 hits or swings.

Oh, to bad, it crumbled. Everyone can't win something persistent you know.

I think we would see some seriously different statements.

Maybe that would be the best way to solve this.

5 million is worth speculating on if Simu might change these to be less crappy. I'm gonna hold onto mine for awhile in hopes of that occuring since it is a neat item otherwise. Also to some folks 5 million is a drop in the bucket even if it does stay crumbly heh.

Except now there are a lot more prizes and it isn't just limited to the ring, big difference. If you don't like that these types of items are in the loot pot there is a simple solution, don't buy a ticket. DM tickets are a hot commodity and most people are happy with the items they're putting out.

Yes, the big difference is that since everyone was going to be shafted with the rings everyone complained and got Simu management to fix their fuck up. Also different, only a few people are being shafted with a similiar item in this run so many of the folks upset then could give a shit now since its not them being affected.

I get it.

If the lists were put up and items were marked crumblyhahalosers before the tickets were sold then I wouldn't be typing this right now. The previous mini runs didn't have 8 items like this so how could I have made my plans based on them? Although if you're trying to say that Simu can find a way to fuck up anything even if they seemingly learned a lesson only months before, then yeah I guess you're right.

I don't know. it sucks that the first and only time i've paid for an event I got unlucky with an item (brooch), but I'm not that pissed off or anything. I paid $25, ended up with about 6 million in silver, so while not something that gave me something cool and unique, I can live with it. It hurts when I look at the really cool things other people got, but such is life.

Yeah its not the end of the world. It wasn't a feras item set or a 40 use crystal amulet or something at least. I'm not crying jihad or threatening account cancellation, etc, either. But I do think its bitch-worthy heh.

I've been playing around with it and its better than the crumbly part seemed at first. It draws mana something like 0-3 times every 2-3 minutes when it pulses. I'm beginning to think with the description that it will only unstun you with one of those pulses. If so it makes it a bit less powerful, but also will last much longer than I had anticipated. Then again maybe it unstuns you every time and the mana drain is unrelated. Oh well it could always be worse.

The way Droughtman worded it, saying it will regularly check on your health and unstun you.. I'm guessing it doesn't auto unstun you immediately. I'd guess it periodcly checks to see if you're stunned, and if you are it unstuns you, if not it drains a little mana.
