I'm tired of my old HP Scanjet flatbed.. I need a scanner that can feed 20 pages at a time and create a pdf file for me to fax using eFax.

The one I am leaning towards right now is the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500. Seems like it has the best reviews for what I am looking for.

I'd like to keep it at or below the $500 mark if possible.. but willing to spend extra if it's a good deal.

Anyone have a good scanner they would recommend?

Use a multi-purpose HP laserjet 1536 dnf MFP, but sounds like you want something to scan and only scan? It can scan multiple pages, but I would call it light duty from a business perspective. Also it is a printer/copier and only B&W.

I have a Fujitsu at the office, it's been going strong for about five or six years now. Never any issues.

Yea, I don't need the scanner to be a printer as I already have an HP Color Laserjet 2605dn. I really just need a good quality, self feeding scanner.

I can't find the one we use on the HP website, but it's a Scanjet 5 thousand something and works well enough, I can get the exact model number. What really kills the automatic document feeder for us (and I would guess any such hardware) is mangled pages: dog ears, crumples, etc. If you're doing it with pristine paper it flies right along.

Over the weekend, I picked up an all in one from HP (Officejet 8600 Plus) with an automatic document feeder (50 pages) and the scan quality has been pretty good for my needs.
Networked printer and I paid 200$.

Everyone should buy an HP printer. They should buy one for their friends and their moms and their moms friends. I hear HP printers make people orgasm spontaneously. And deliver fresh milk to your door every morning and make allergies go away. I'm not an expert I'm just sayin.

Samsonite! I was way off.

The one we use is discontinued anyway.

.

What I wanted to add before was: don't get too caught up in the pages per minute rating. We're digitizing old archives, and even though we get 9 pages per minute scan, we only get about 3 pages per minute digitized. If we doubled our scan speed we'd only get up to...

(60/9) + x = 20
(60/18) + 20 - 60/9 = 16.6, 60/ = 3.6 pages per minute digitized

And that's probably an optimistic projection for two reasons: one because we can get a lot of the other work done while other documents are scanning, and two because we are continuously scanning where you (if I read your situation correctly) will be intermittently scanning.

I haven't purchased a new one yet, because I saw an advertisement for "Neat Desk" and want to look into it. Looked fast and was able to scan all sorts of different sized documents.

When I worked in a medical office we used Fujitsu scanners for the conversion from paper charts to electronic records. They worked great, rarely needed servicing and the parts that wear are easy to replace. I would definitely recommend them.

This is what I use at work, and it's pretty nice. Does scan to PDF's and all that too.
