View Full Version : Iguana appreciation post!
Mine just brutally mutilated my face upon convincing him to leave the terrace railing. But I still love the bastard.

I posted this before, but I'll post it again. My 2nd Iguana.
lemme see if I can convince the owner of the digi camera to part with it for a few.

haha, i like your style, he hopes it's a female i bet, or it will maul his face too
Funniness. I just thought it was female because the beard looked smaller than my guy. And yes, hopefully his iguana won't maul my face either.

Omens Iguana is sexy!
some male iguanas go insane at the presence of each other, or at least give a head wiggle of dominance...
And my iguana could rip Omen's iguana to ribbons. Damn I want that digi cam.

I had a 4' iguana I rescued from some jackass that had it in a cage way too small. So I built my own cage for it and kept it for 2 years until he passed. At least the last two years he got fresh food and some room to stretch.
He was never tamed so he didn't like to be held.
When my kid gets a little older I plan on getting a new one.
They make awesome pets, but yes, they require a more unhappy domesticated environment for them to have a more calm personality. And contrary to popular belief, feeding iggies meat instead of vegetables will actually make them IMO less aggressive, but also fatter and lazier. I Always sprinkle his food with chips and calcium though, but don't think that really effects his demeanor at all.

i miss my iguanas, they got sick somehow and dieded, i plan on gettin another, but next time i really want to be prepared with facilities and such for it, and i want it to be like a shoulder iguana.... was prolly besides my current dog, my favorite pet ever, but i was ver young and inexperienced with them, if you'd help me out maybe with requirements and such, i might just get one sooner.
Here's probably the most helpful tip.
That cute little baby tree iguana in the petstore can grow to be almost 7 feet long (depending on growth suppression hormones via cage size.)
Since you already have had them as pets, I'm sure that you're prepared to build a makeshift cage sometime in the foreseeable future.
And the females tend to be smaller when full grown.

yeah and the males can be prettyaggressive when they hit breeding age, my friends iguana would chase him and and bite his pants leg, it was fuckin funny

Even though mine is pretty much always docile, he still is a somewhat primitive animal, and I always use thick ass gloves or my kevlar-lind ones when handling him. And their bites can easily break a finger. Bad.
If they're on the floor, they will always get spooked easier than if they're on an elevated object. Evolution has its implications.
In the few times my guy has flipped, I use the water spritzer thingy to calm him down, but generally, if he wants to go on the floor, I'll let him do so by himself.
I find the opposite to be true. My iguana gets spooked a lot easier when shes hanging out ontop of her cage, (which really she only uses to shit in. Its weird she seems to have potty trained herself.)

Do I let it roam around "our" home? I didn't know you lived with me!
But yes both my Iguana in the past and my current Iguana have free roam of the house. But the current Iguana doesn't really take advantage of the freedom like the old one did. She mainly just hangsout on top of her cage.
Sometimes when we want to put a little harness on her well take her into the backyard and let her climb around in the trees.

Heh my bad on the typo...
Don't worry, I'm not living with you, or stalking you. Nothing like that... nope, just go on living your life just how you were.

Heh. My guy always is trying to get to the highest object in the room, after a few mistrials, I made home a little more iggy-safe from a past fuck-up involving what is now a dead lamp...
As for pooping the bastard, I just fill the tub with lewk-warm water, and he does his thing. The undigested calcium in his excrement is the fucking NASTIEST, and most difficult part to clean up.
But like I said, I love the guy, and come hell and highwater, I aint parting with em.

That is a big damn lizard.
He has grown <does some crude math>
12 times his body length since I got the bastard.
