HSN WEEK 4: SURNAME REGISTRIES OPEN FOR BUSINESS · on 7/3/2004 5:07:22 PM 703
Reply
Surname registry offices opened for business today in every major town. Customers may register their existing last name, thus ensuring that they will be recognized as the legal owner of that appellation for one year, with the option to renew. Although this service does entail a fee, married couples may take on the name of their spouse at no charge. Individuals may also choose to share their surnames with others, provided they appear before the clerk as a group. Further services will be added in the future.
The ability to change your last name will be granted after a fair amount of time has been given to allow existing last name owners to register their name.

Yeah, 100K a year to keep the last name given to me by my parents... retarded... Other then then, should be pretty cool.

Yeah so break it down for me? Surnames are in now, 100k for what? To even have it? And re-register?

At least now if people try to RP "families," I can call them on it if they don't have the same last name.

well considering most families in gemstone involve adoptions, thats not a very good call.

Not necessarily...
They can change their last names now, to be of the same family.

No shit, Sherlock.
The point being, that often, where families do not have two bio parents and all children from same two parents, there are often different names within that family.
I know a family where the kids between them have three different surnames. They can change their last names, they just dont.
Doesnt make them family any less .
Anyone around that has numerical digits in their last name, that would be WAY groovy to share that last name.

It's not exactly the norm to have children with three surnames though, now is it?

Edaarin.....lets adopt 843 children and give them 3 surnames.

That could mean that the children were from three different fathers... hmmmmm

Maybe not the norm, but it becoming more normal for people within families to have different surnames (women keeping their maiden name, reconstituted families, etc) and given that the norm for families in GS is adoption, it could reasonably be assumed that there will be a lot of families where members of that family have different surnames

Dear Nieninque,
Shut The Fuck Up... and get off my tip.
Obviously the reference was lost upon your cognitive deficiency, so I'm not even going to try to explain. Just STFU and quit spamm posting to drive up your post count

There's a new surname building in each town. Ask the person about it. Should bring up a couple options.
If you're in Illistim, it is kinda NW of Briarstone court. Or two NE from the constable place I think.
Caiylania

I think its cool. I'm glad Caiy already has a last name but for new players, now they can too.
Also love you can share names. I don't need it, but a lot of my friends are thrilled.

I searched for info on surnames.. this was the best topic I found.. why make more useless topics?
Artha

Because 2 year bumps are poor form.

Id personally prefer not to see 15 different topics on one subject, guess I still dont see what all the fuss is about on bumpin threads.

If you read Today's Posts/New Posts you don't see dead threads.

I'd rather see the thread bumped than a new one created, as long as the comment is genuine and in this case, it was a question. Other threads have been bumped due to questions and noone really made a fuss. It only bothers me when its something useless like 'OMG ROFL THAT R SO FUNNY'.

As I see it, if you find an old thread that addresses the matter you want to address, there's no problem with bumping the thread to do so.

I got excited for a moment, until I saw it was an old thread.
Once they implement it into Prime that you can choose a last name and register, I'll be all over it. I want Ent's last name back.
