I love this country. What other country can say they have a holiday dedicated to saying "fuck you" while giving the big middle finger to England?

The United States of America PWNs every other country. Enjoy your fireworks, your beer, and your hot dogs, but remember what this day stands for: The US of A is better than any other country in the world. Nuff said.

I'll be celebrating it by doing take home tests from summer courses. BAH.

Nothing says American and celebration like explosives, mind altering beverages, and processed fatty mystery meat!

Not only that, but America was actually rated like, 7th best country. Canada was in first untill like, 2001, and is now in second to Switzerland (last I checked. Could be misinformation.. but I know Canada was in first till at least 1999). So, my response: See Lady Satira's comment.

Oh, ps, happy july 4th. Go blow shit up and get drunk!:)

The best part of the 4th for me is yesterday was the halfway point of my deployment.

6 more months to go

I hope everyone has a great day

Hey all,

As I'm going into D. C. later today, I'm going to be getting a camera (since mine is BROKED) and taking some pictures of various memorials on the Mall. Anyone interested in seeing these? I'll probably post them. The WWII memorial is my big thing to see... and the Vietnam Veterans memorial, but I may not take pictures of t hat, becasue 1. it's so huge, and 2. it's really one of those things you have to be there to experience. (Or so I'm told.)

07-04-2004, 12:17 PM
I would be happy to get any pictures you take Beth.

God Bless America!

Seeing as how we're talking about fireworks, someone clear up an argument I'm having with my brother.

I say a coffee can with gasoline in it (as well as glitter or paint or something pretty) is just as damn good as any firework he buys at Stop and Shop. He maintains that even if it were to work, it would be a bomb and not a firework (which I would say is semantics). Anyone got good points for either side?

Jack
07-04-2004, 06:18 PM
The gas in the coffee can would just burn, any glitter in it would melt. Sorry, it just won't work.

Artha
07-04-2004, 06:19 PM
It might explode, if you could find a way to light it while keeping the gasses inside. Then again, you'd all be dead or have bits of coffee-can stuck in you.

I vote for your brother. Fireworks are an artform really. A can full of an volitile liquid and some glitter is a joke.

07-04-2004, 06:39 PM
I read in the paper how law enforcement (at least in Cali I think) is supposedly cracking down on purchases of illegal fireworks because of fears of creating fires in the dry season they're having. I guess that makes it more fun to do then. But then again, I'm east coast, baby, and celebrating by doing a paper on Othello and Richard... w00t... :(

I feal your pain Stan..I'm doing homework too..

I've got 10 questions to answer..and they all look something like this..

The one-time use password tokens described in this chapter are often sold as strong two-factor authentication devices. Summarize two different token systems from different vendors in this market. Explain why these devices are described as part of a two-factor authentication scheme. Your summary should include a brief description of how each system integrates with at least one platform, for example, the way in which authentication will take place when a user logs on to a Windows workstation using such a system.

Alcohol, fireworks, meat and war movies and a car that sucks up a gallon of gas backing out of the driveway. How can you not love this country???

processed fatty mystery meat!

It's not a mystery. Everyone knows hotdogs are made of hobos.

Artha! Forget the freaking newt! I have changed the formula. You shall be a cockroach! Oh, and leave the dog AND the cat IN the house!:bye:

What no one lit themselves on fire with your fireworks so you could photograph them?

07-04-2004, 10:58 PM
Yes.

They are blowing shit up in Van Courtland park.

The rocket's red blare is captivating.

I just came back from Boston's Pops concert and the 4th celebration.

We got there early enough to stake a claim to a piece of grass on the banks of the Charles River, with the Hatchshell right behind us. I went for one big reason. My friend Tracy, she won the Pops talent contest, and was the featured soloist during the beginning of the show. She did great, and it was so incredible.:) The fireworks were pretty good too. We usually go out and sing karaoke on Sunday nights with her, and a bunch of other people..she really did so well.

http://www.boston.com/dailynews/186/region/Singing_contest_winner_hits_bi:.shtml

I'm all sore, though I'm not sunburned, just tired and achy.

Hope everyone had a good day! :)

Sounds like you had a great day, Ilvane, despite the aches and the exhaustion. The article about your friend was great! Thanks for sharing it, and your wonderful day! :)

They had the WWII memorial closed, cause they shot fireworks off from there. And most of the Vietnam memorial was closed for renovation. And the Lincoln memorial was full of jackasses.

But the fireworks were pretty.

I have added something to my list of most gratifying moments.

Seeing fireworks ALL OVER our nation's capital on Independance Day.

Also on the list in no particular order...

Seeing a Glacier in Alaska.

Snorkling over the coral reef in the Red Sea.

Walking the old strip in Vegas on a busy night.

The sun behind the Eiffel Tower.

Sounds like my brother who shot himself in the ass with a high powered bottle rocket (not the normal ones). He got this crazy idea to put a PVC pipe through a cardboard so it was sort of like a riot shield with a pipe through it put on his shoulder to fire stuff. Well he put the rocket it in the end of the tube and aimed it, it fell out the back and blasted him in the ass and burnt a hole in his pants.......

This is my brother who will have a PHD in material science and a BS in computer science in a year and will probably end up with a 3.8 GPA.

LOL There was this guy there who was lighting off what looked like to be jumping jacks and screamers...into the sand...near the other fireworks. We had to yell at him to move a few times. People do some insane crap.

Driving through DC was like being in a war zone. Yeah, they are legal in the District.

Watched one guy across the street try to light something and had it go off right there on the ground. He turned away just in time. I'm suprised more people werent hurt.

We cut the ends off of wiffle bats, light bottle rockets, dump them in the end and it's bazooka time!

We stand at opposite ends of a field (about football field size) and launch them at one another. My brother got pissed because we were using little rockets and I decided to mix it up a bit and I shot a saturn rocket at him

Fireworks for us are year round entertainment heh

Because we get to light shit on fire and make it explode and make a loud noise.

Bottle Rocket Wars (BRW, TM pending) was a down home favorite when I'd visit my friends in Kansas City.

July 5th for a few years in a row I'd wake up with a singed or burnt piece of flesh between my thumb and forefinger (backdraft from the rockets).

Ah... memories.

We were at the Washington Monument, and you know... the park police there carry guns? Not sissy guns either. BIG FUCKING GUNS.

Also, they were handing out bottled water to whoever would take it. Deer Park... it was kind of insane. So decadent!
