So.. I knew a couple of the dudes that got killed, but more fucked up than that, is I've known the killer for a really long time. Like, 15 years. I hadn't seen him in a while so I didn't recognize him from the camera stills, but sure enough. I feel uber fucked up from this right now.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Eventually we will all meet someone who is part of a seriously F'd up story.. I started to type out some of mine, but felt so F'd up by reading them I erased them, but I can assure you some of the people around me in my life and what they have done make this story look tame.

You should post his bail, fly him to a foreign country and then bribe him to do bad things in the name of FREEDOM (money) and SOCIAL JUSTICE (more money).

Do tell.
A girl I know was roommates with some girl who tied up and brutally murdered a girl in a clothing store for something like the girl saw the killer clock out later than she actually did.
I also was convinced that a guy i was living with from craigslist was the craigslist killer. He had seriously fucked up views about women and had been using my computer to research how to buy a glock. I had several people confirm that he looked exactly like the footage caught of the killer. He would disappear at night randomly and shit. The day I was going to go to the police, the actual killer was caught. Regardless, too sketchy and i kicked him out about a month later.

lol... you found a roommate via craigslist? Seems like just about the dumbest thing a person could do. Save maybe hire a babysitter or hooker from craigslist.

Quite common around here. Most people I know have done it and almost all of them turned out to be really good experiences.

Yeah, it happens in Boston.
Anyways, I know a guy who went to Palestine and sat in front of Israeli bulldozers. He was with the American girl who got bulldozed a couple years ago.
That's about all I got.
Oh, besides one of my closest friends being Tim McVeigh's neighbor growing up. I guess that's a pretty big one.

Ummm, my nottaboyfriend grew up in Norway and hasn't really lived there for 10 years but when that racist guy shot all those kids apparently all Norweigians everywhere were like OMG HOMING BEACON HUG TIME.
If I grew up next to Tim McVeigh I would tell everyone I knew for the rest of my life. That's hilarious.

My cousin's baby daddy (CBD), who I hung out with a lot when I lived there years ago, and his brother got drunk and decided to crash the family birthday barbecue of a guy who lived down the street from them. When the family told them to leave CBD went home, got his rifle, went back up the street, and shot at a 50 something year old member of the family. Missed. Shot again. Missed. Shot again. Hit him in the head and killed him instantly.
He'll be out of jail soon.

Back in the late 80's early 90's, I lived in downtown Savannah. One morning I woke up to a shit ton of sirens across the street. Turns out that the mother of Ricky Jivens (http://savannahnow.com/features/gangs/jivens.html) lived across the street and the police nabbed him while he was visiting. Kinda odd because I remember him shooting hoops and playing soccer with my sister and me down the street. Never seemed like he was really all that bad of a guy.

Shit I almost forgot about this guy. Supposedly a former Ranger. Managed a boston market across from my gym. I had late night chats with him once or twice. At the time I thought he was fine as hell. Anyway, murdered his wife and then calmly turned himself into the cops covered in her blood. :-[

Carolyn was stabbed more than 20 times after asking her husband, Andre Cleveland, for a divorce. The couple's children witnessed their mother’s murder. Although Cleveland claimed he stabbed his wife in self-defense, a jury found him guilty of murder.

Does "No way I am giving up half my shit" count as self defense?

Bummer. Three of my four childhood best friends have died which makes me feel... weird. But they never did anything awful, I don't know how I would react to that.

I'm Makkah's defense, it is pretty stupid and risky, despite how frequently people use it.

how is it different from answering a classified ad in a newspaper, or going on a date with someone you met on Match.com or something?

It isn't much different and I never said it was the only practice that has become more commonplace that is stupid and risky. At least on match.com, i assume you'd be going to a public place and not handing the keys for your house to a stranger and letting them live with you for a year. I'm not saying it is always an issue or always going to result in a problem, I'm saying it is pretty risky and stupid.
Think about it. You read a few lines on craigslist, maybe talk on the phone, then go to a complete stranger's house. It's risky. I still believe the far majority of people are decent people and would never do anything to hurt another person, but on the other hand, it only takes one. It's just a risky behavior.

It's slightly better than an arranged marriage, just ask for their most recent pay stub. I've found it works out better for a roommate situation than knowing the person. There's no clingyness, and friends living together can lead to a more husband/wife or wife/wife behavior. In the DC area, crossing the street can be categorized as risky behavior.
Anyway, I feel for Hedensk, too. I would be extremely confused if someone I knew for 15 years did that.

Oh god. This. Just:
1) Post ads for roommate on community board at VA.
2) Get freakishly clean/organized roommate that works all the fucking time because they are used to 16 hour days (and thus never hooome!!)
3) Prophet.

Or get the opposite. Get a roommate who loses their job, can't pay bills, is creepy and home all the time doing god knows what when you're at work and you dont know them.
