View Full Version : (Premium) Demonology Rune Raffle

stormtov

When: Sat, May 19, 5pm – 5pm
Where: Ledirth's Wagon, near Gardenia Commons (map)
Description: Ledirth will be offering rune lessons to four sorcerers. Winners, as selected by raffle, will have their choice of any demon specific archetype rune. Entry will be restricted to sorcerers capable of casting the Minor Summoning spell. It is highly suggested that winners be around at the time of the drawing, as Ledirth is likely to be very displeased if he has to wait long or go tracking people down later.

Just been put up on the calender figured i would share for those who don't keep a good eye on these things(like me usually).

Anyone else feel this is ridiculously lame to restrict this to premium AND being a raffle?

This isn't 1999. There aren't many Sorcerers rolling around, and next to ZERO with any teaches left.

So you need to be pay extra money and be extremely lucky to summon demons of your choosing now? Lame.

Furthermore, should I happen to win, I pledge to use ALL my teaches (if they're even letting you) to those Sorcerers who did not win the raffle absolutely FREE. I'm sure there will be some enterprising prick who'd as soon make a quick silver off Simu's hoarding of uncommon runes, but that prick won't be me.

So if I win one, and you'd like me to teach it to you, let me know. I'm hoping that with these 4 winners, we all can get a few uncommon runes out of it.

Good choices for demons are Arashan(Can control webs, carry 4 items, etc) and Abyran'sa though do note that the Sanct breaking demons are very, very difficult to summon with an uncommon even with the help of a chamber. Looks like Krakiipedia has Shein as the best for mana battery purposes.

I want the Abyran'sa, my sorcerer would always have one following him around. It's such a haslte when you don't know the rune though and even when you have one with 145 ranks in demonolgy when in a summoning chamber you still blow your self up half the time(i really hope that is bad luck and it does not keep hapening, got a refresh script fixed so dont have to summon often).

Arashan does sound nice too though, get the creepy factor of a spider too there.

I have a bunch of abyran'sa runestones, and yes, they are EXTREMELY difficult to summon. I've got 80 ranks of demonology, and in a chamber, I fail a lot. It's rather annoying.

I will be going for Shein since I plan on 713 being a main attack spell when I reach higher level.

Unless consensus is that Arashan are better for the web control?

I second this...I may even go out and say that I will teach only non-premium sorcerers, or come up with an event centered around this for my CHE. I can easily find enough interested sorcerers who would like to spin the wheel of demon to win a teach.

That's not a bad idea, either. Making an event out of it would be kind of cool.

Verlok, baby. I don't care if it has little to no utility. I already have aishan, but no teaches remaining.

Sorcerers unite, may not 1 teaching be sold. All should be gifted away or won in (non-profit)competitions!

Also an aditional note from the play.net forums:

Entry will be restricted to sorcerers of level 25+.

Winner will have their choice of any single demon-specific rune. Winners will be empowered to teach a lorae'tyr rune once, a shien'tyr rune twice, or a grik'tyr rune three times. It is highly suggested that winners be around at the time of the drawing, as Ledirth is likely to be very displeased if he has to wait long or go tracking people down later.

I am glad to see them doing this again. But I still dislike that there is a restriction on who is able to be there for the drawing.

I would rather see it become a guild option if you master illusions to get taught an uncommon rune even if you don't get the ability to teach it to someone else. Also give the person the option to learn it at any time and base the uncommon rune that you can learn on your current ranks in demonology. This way you can master the guild skill and work up to a certain number of ranks to be able to use the rune that you learn.

The last one that I attended wasn't announced this way, it was impromtu. Had to be in the game to know when and where is was going to happen.
And thanks Stormtov for the heads up.

I would personally only teach a sorcerer an uncommon rune if they become a guild master. I know many who have worked hard and achieved this goal.

I wonder how many have mastered since the alchemy requirement was put in place.

It wouldn't be so bad if there were, you know, actual Sorcerers with demon runes around so one could master Illusions. There are what, 2 people that actively help? Perhaps if Sorcerers weren't nerfed to fuck all there would be a bigger population.

They should really do this. Bards have monthly sonic raffles, rangers have monthly AC raffles.. why not a monthly sorcerer rune raffle?

I haven't summoned a demon in a very very very long time. I have no desire to participate in guild work because I feel that it's a tedium that has no real benefit to me.

It was a long time ago that I made an RP decision to focus on necromancy. This was back in the day when animate dead seemed really great. Since there's no chance I'll ever get a soulstone wand, I have an opportunity to rethink this from a training perspective. Necro really only plays into pain (which I think is one of the best spells we have) and animate dead. Demonology plays into more spells that have more tangible utility. But the whole summon demon thing never really factored into that.

Having said that... Am I missing something by not summoning demons?

Raffles on a more regular basis definately would be nice, as well as an uncommon rune for those who master illusions. As for those learning illusions if you are in the elven nations keep an eye out for dalzashel, he is always willing to help teach.

They can be useful to carry a small bit of treasure, coins, or mana. That said, though, unless you're really careful with illusions, own a demon rattle, or live in a town that allows demons you're likely to get arrested when you/your script fucks up. Also, RP, but beyond that...eh

That being said, I didn't play with the new spell that uses demons for flares.

If you're asking about demon utility, then the only real thing they affect is balefire because they'll occasionally "flare" and help you out. But demonology lores, as a whole, are valuable to the extent that they minimize failure when using 740, which is a huge deal to those of us who flit from place to place.

I have one rank of necro lores and am 1x in demon lores. I am guessing that when the fixskill rolls around, I am going to try to make it so I'm .5x in both since I am getting to the point where I can use Pain effectively.

Otherwise, I like demons just for the RP value. It's fun to have a little slave reluctantly following you around, glaring balefully at you because it has to serve your every whim.

Kronius

I've been doing more and more testing with demons and balefire, and it's actually quite powerful. I've got a fixskills to burn, I might try to 2x demon lore and see what the cumulative effect is on Balefire in regards to DF and demon flares. Could be fun to be a pure Balefire sorcerer, since all I really do is warcamp.

There is a lich script on the repo that is pretty good for keeping them summoned/illusioned, it is not perfect though. I have madea few tweaks to it though myself and is working a lot better, i have sent it back to the orginal owner of the script so they will hopefully put that up before too long.

Really though you arent missing out on a whole lot by not having one and if like me you spend all your time in the nations you are risking a rather heft fine if you do mess up.

Love this idea but lets expand it, every profession should have their own raffle for something class related.

It probably wouldn't be too hard except...Paladins don't have a guild. Monks likely wont either.

As some seemingly incredibly racist person pointed out via neg rep, the runes aren't in the same category as altering an AC or sonic item. If you wanted that to be an equivalent then a custom nightmare would be it. However, I don't see why uncommon runes have to be insanely rare. They don't offer that much benefit overall, assuming you can get runestones made with an uncommon time on them. So, to my detractor: go fuck yourself and maybe some counseling over your fear of asian people(not that I am).

Otherwise, are there similar services, guild related or not, available to other professions beyond the three mentioned that would help them more customize their character. If some could be pointed out a reasonable argument for all sorts of raffles could be made.

I will at some point have a weekly illusion day again. Times are changing and I will have time to play again.

There is a post on the PC for an old stromfront illusion script that Subzero had taken the time to redo. I haven't had the chance to confirm how well it works. But I have a friend Aesec that will be putting it to use soon enough. As for teaching and learning reps, ;illusion_tutor works pretty well if its still on the repo. I know Moredin made changes to it a while ago but I haven't updated mine and I heard there were new bugs with his most recent adaptation.

No one likes a douchbag. Well you are the fucking douchebag. I spent lots of time trying to get to this point. Bugged the hell out of people for a long time to get work done in illusions. I give my time for hours on end to help others so all I got to say is fuck off, sorry you don't like it. I even infuse scrolls for free. I don't ask for anything now. And any one that wants my time to help them only needs to ask. Be a real fucking person and man up and say who you are fucktard.

Going to do my best to bring my sorcerer, Dalzashel, around before and after the raffle for illusions training in case anyone is intrested. Master of illusions but not a guild master so no double reps unfortuantely, hopefully that will change soon though as he is eligible for promotion.
