I'm considering downloading the first season, worth it?

I watched the pilot when it first came on and thought it was turrible.

I've seen a few scenes here and there but never a full episode. It looked kinda crappy.

I thought it was like Walking Dead with aliens. It's more about the group(s) dynamic then the aliens themselves. What people would do in that situation, who breaks down, who takes lead...not a horrible show, but it is generally slow.

It's okay. I wouldn't say either bad or great. I wanted to be more of a fan.

Yea... I'm in the same place. I really wanted to like it and watched every episode, but it never became "must see TV" for me.
I'll likely watch the 2nd season and hope they can turn it around.

Like the others said its something I wanted to be more interesting but in the long run I think the only reason I continued to watch it was because I had shit else to do.
Ok sounds like a pass for now. I'm going to download The Killing and check that out instead.

The Killing is awesome. Absolutely top notch.

Falling Skies was one of those shows where you feel vaguely embarrassed for the actors. Maybe it got better though, I stopped watching after the first or second episode.

It wasn't awful, but it didn't feel particularly fresh, either. And most of the story lines you could spot coming from a mile away. And now in Season 2 -- surprise, surprise -- some of the aliens might actually be our friends. I'll watch, but only because there's so little good Sci-Fi out there since the dawn of SyFy.
What's "The Killing" -- the Kubrick film from the early 60's, which I love?!?

Well actually it's not an "original" strictly speaking. It was a hit Danish program, really popular around the world subtitled. They remade it for American tv.

I watched the first season. As others mentioned, the acting/dialogue on the show sometimes dips pretty low. The pacing can also be a problem with some episodes having little to no action. That being said, if you like sci-fi I think there is enough substance here to keep you entertained. I am glad they ordered a second season and imagine that the acting/writing will improve as everyone becomes comfortable with their roles and less time is spent introducing characters. Keep in mind that I found Terra Nova to be fairly watchable too.

If it isn't American it doesn't count.

I absolutely love The Killing. I was annoyed at first that things didn't wrap up in the season finale last year, as that was how it was done on the Danish show and I thought that's what was advertised for this version. Now I'm glad they didn't follow suit.

AHOY, SPOILERS DEAD AHEAD
That's the thing about the The Killing that I am finding a little irritating now.
The many red herrings have been fun to follow but five episodes into season 2 and it's starting to feel like it's being stretched out too long. If the current murder doesn't find a conclusion by the end of this season then I'll be very disappointed.
I mean I know that would mean many of the people in supporting roles would be out of work next season but the main characters could start solving a new murder mystery. And it's not like the show would be unable to get quality actors for a new storyline.
It's just starting to feel a little like the writers are just milking the storyline. I want to know who killed Rosie and why and I want to know right the fuck now.

The girlfriend suggests that this is why the Danish version is superior. She says you should watch the subtitled version.

I know that I found the subtitled Swedish original Let the Right One In far superior to the American remake so I will probably do as you suggest. It might be un-American to admit but subtitles don't bother me. I sometimes use them when watching an english-speaking film or show because it seems more and more that directors think mumbling passes for good acting.
Or maybe I am just getting older and my hearing is going.

I agree to some extent. I like that they've fleshed out the storyline beyond the teacher and Richmond, and I felt they spent way too long on both of them because it was not at all believable that either was the killer. When Holder was implicated in the last few minutes of the season finale, I was elated because I suspected him all along. I was equally elated when the show was all, NAWP MOTHERFUCKER, early this season in regards to Holder. At this point, I'm sick of watching Richmond wallow and Mitch be an irresponsible cunt.
I too want to know who killed Rosie and why, and it had better be good.

The red herring distractions in this series are legion. As soon as I am sure I know whodunit the bastard writers rule that person out.
Falling Skies was good for a while but it ran out of steam after like, 6 episodes or so. Boring.
Let The Right One In was fucking amazing. And blood makes me barf but I stuck with it :)

You know what's an awesome long haul scifi show... Fringe. John Noble is a genius.

I love Fringe but it has gone downhill, plotwise, over the last couple of seasons. Anna Torv is awesome (and hot) and John Noble is brilliant.

I hate to admit this (why the fuck do I feel the need to confess all my guilty pleasures to you people anyway?) but I am really enjoying True Blood. I was given season 1 on dvd and just bought season 2.
It irritates me though that the lead, Anna Paquin, seems to have only one expression no matter what is going on in the story. She has the same look on her face all the fucking time. Vampire might be sucking her dry, werewolves gnawing on her arm, nuclear bombs could be dropping, she might be eating dinner, doesn't matter...her expression NEVER changes. She's like a RealDoll only with less expression.
But other than that, it's enjoyable.
P.S. this is where we talk about tv shows now, right?

All I see when I watch is this...

I was really, really into True Blood but I'm reasonably sure I won't be watching the new season unless someone who has taste I trust orders me to.
I think what bothers me is in the books they make it really clear from the get go that Bill is a huge asshole. They did a really slow job on that in the show. I've also found it gets really repetitive and the new storylines become cringingly bad (ghost daddy, hellerrrrr).
I also find it really weird that Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin are married IRL, because their chemistry doesn't really translate very well, at least not to me. I've always "believed" Sookie and Eric, or Sookie when she's with Alcide, but it seemed so fake with Bill. Odd.
