I saw the following post about TheEschalon's first concert and was about to reply to it with my own first concert story, but then I said to myself. "Self, you should create a whole thread for that shit". And so I did.

You know what my first concert was when I was 14? No Doubt opening for Smashing Pumpkins. That was great. Infinite Sadness was one of my favorite albums of growing up.

My first concert was MC Hammer in Reno. Probably 1992. 2 Legit 2 Quit tour. Srsly. It was aight. Somebody shot at Jodeci (the opening act). The concert went on anyway.

So far the only concert I have tickets for this year is Tenacious D. It will rule.

You know, I can't remember now if it was No Doubt opening for Smashing Pumpkins, or if it was No Doubt opening for Bush and the Smashing Pumpkins concert was some other time.

Part of me wants to say the former, part of me wants to say the latter solely based on the idea that Gwen Stefani had to meet Gavin whatever-the-fuck-his-name is at some point. And I'm pretty sure I've been to a Bush concert as well.

First was Red Hot Chili Peppers opening for Oingo Boingo. Me, my friend, and the girls we took had to get permission from our parents to go and were our rides.

I saw Bush and No Doubt play on the same stage at the BlockBuster rockfest in Dallas. Maybe 1996 or 1997. Gwen had just fucked her hair up. It really looked like she cut it herself with dull scissors while drunk.

Lots of good bands there that day. The Toadies, the Nixons... I can't even remember who else. I backpacked in 2 cases of beer. Good times.

The first concert I ever went might have actually been something at the New York Philharmonic, I must've been, like, a fetus. Maybe a little post fetus, I remember learning about the rules of sound in an auditorium and crap.

Then, warp drive, I'm at Culture Shock or Oktoberfest, fuck it, whatever it's called and just free roaming to all this free shit. Then of course all the other SUNYs got "better" artists, but I was more than cool with Aesop Rock, MC Paul Barman and Kool Keith like two feet outside my dorm. I drank my first 40oz that day, in lieu of getting drunk before attending loud music and lights. I remember that so I apparently didn't drink enough 40s.

The strangest concert I've ever been to was an Allman Bros. performance, based on the crowd alone. I wasn't chemically prepared.

Stanley Burrell

And that wasn't my first 40oz. But, when you drink a 40oz to celebrate an artist, this = #1 fan. I have decided.

My first hundred or so shows were small time bands local to my area and Austin. Still haven't been to many big shows, but the best was Unwritten Law many years ago in Waterloo Park in Austin. Adema headlined it. Saw Sublime with Rome and 311 last summer, was a pretty bad ass show but the venue was lame, not the band's fault. Next weekend is Social Distortion... pretty stoked about that one too. Was hoping to check out The Expendables next Saturday before Social D but couldn't swing a sitter for the kiddos.

So I looked it up, it was definitely No Doubt opening for Bush and THE GOO GOO DOLLS. IDK what i was thinking with that, but apparently I was into it (The Goo Goo Dolls were from Buffalo so it was a huge deal to be going to their concert in Buffalo, I guess).

Smashing Pumpkins was later.

Those were my first concerts, but my taste trended darker and I spent most of my later high school days following metal bands around - I followed Fear Factory (with (hed) p.e. and Static X) around for almost a summer, and went to quite a few System shows. For bigger stuff I went to a bunch of Manson shows and a couple Alice in Chains/NIN things.

I went to On the Bricks over the course of a couple years back in high school and shortly afterward (2001-2003ish). Aside from that my first real concert was Ozzfest '07 in Charlotte, NC, when I fell in love with Maria Brink. The last was Black Label Society last summer playing at the House of Blues in Atlantic City. Awesome.

Gonna fuckin date myself here. Blood Sweat and Tears with David Clayton Thomas Jr. at the Sun Dome in St Petersburg FL. Was in the fourth row with my family. Horns were awesome when your 9 years old.

KISS was next in Madison Wis 1978. First solo concert w/ a date.

Best, Summerfest in Milwaukee WI didn't suck but the LiveStock concerts in Zepherhills FL that 98 Rock put on between 93-98 were top. Bands and Crowd were awesome, mosh pit for the most part pretty clean with the exception of a couple peeps getting Med Flighted out. CAMP GROUNDS and the Super Soaker Alley and The Mass Parties in the woods will always get my vote for #1

Iron Maiden in... I want to say it was like '97 at the Aragon. It was a million fucking degrees. People were passing out from the heat, and a $9 drink would steam in your hand. I remember being too horrendously hot to even really enjoy the music.

Monster Magnet opened- they got pelted with beverages until they vacated the stage. They sucked horribly and deserved what they got.

First concert was a tiny venue called the Empress Ballroom, I'm pretty sure it was Daphne loves Derby - I recall not knowing who the hell that was, but my friend wasn't allowed to go unless she had a friend go with her.

It was hot, and they sold out of water very quickly. It was hell

Wow, memories. My first concert was Beck in '96 or '97, in what's basically a gym. I was supposed to see Goo Goo Dolls with the same group of friends 2 weeks after that, but.. I forget what happened that I didn't, wish it was cool, but I know it wasn't.

The last one I saw, too many years ago now, was Great Big Sea (http://www.greatbigsea.com/) at the Canal Club in Richmond, and I got as close to the stage as I could.

I worked at Wolf Trap Farm Park for 2 summers and got paid to see Jethro Tull, Harry Connick Jr, Earth Wind and Fire, Tony Bennett,, The Chieftans.. still my favorite job that I've ever had.

Best concert...Eric Clapton 'From the Cradle' tour with Jimmy Vaughan as opening act. Great show in a small venue.

Honorable mention: either of the BB King shows I've seen. The man is flat out one of the best showmen and guitarists ever. Very fun to see live, he interacts with the crowd and really plays off the crowd. So much fun to go to his shows.

My first concert I was probably 6 or 7, my dad took my older brother and I to a Grateful Dead concert (yeah he wasn't a big "thinker."). The air was so thick with smoke my brother had taken off his hat and kept trying to breathe from in there, and then some stoner guy leaned over and asked, "Hey, whatcha got in there?"

Tisket, I saw the Backstreet Boys and that shit was awesome. I still have some of their music on my Mp3 app... no regrets!

I count that as my first concert because I actually wanted to go. When I was much younger I was dragged to a Billy Ray Cyrus concert and didn't enjoy myself in the slightest. I didn't know any of the songs and I distinctly remember being embarrassed for all the old ladies in mom jeans dancing around awkwardly to Achey Breaky Heart and thinking his mullet was gross looking.

I also went to Warped Tour and Tim McGraw (the only country I listen to) as a teenager. In the last 2 years I've gone to see Weezer and I got to see the XX in Boston.

I theoretically saw BB King, now that you mention him. I'd totally forgotten about that one, I think I was doing more crowd control so didn't get to really enjoy it. (It wasn't a bad crowd, just a lot of ticket checking as people moved around.)

My first concert was Lollapalooza in 1996, Metallica was headlining and promoting Load =( On the plus side, they only had that one lame album to play, then they were forced to play good things. Also, Soundgarden and the Ramones were also playing and I feel that helped make up for it.

I've been to Wacken (http://www.wacken.com)twice, in 08 and 09. In 08, headliners were Lordi (hilarious), Nightwish, & Iron Maiden. In 09, it was Motorhead, Machine Head (fucking awesome), and In Flames.

In January, I went on 70,000 Tons of Metal (http://www.70000tons.com) -- saw and met (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7034/6804641337_01f8f3e485_z.jpg) many bands including my beloved My Dying Bride. Best goddamn concert ever, and I'm awaiting the booking announcements for 70K2013.

The last concert I went to to Paganfest's stop here in PDX, with Alestorm, Arkona, and Turisas.

First concert ever (I was practically an infant, true!) was Iron Butterfly opening for Jefferson Airplane.

Over the years, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Earth, Wind and Fire, Steely Dan, Jethro Tull, Rick Wakefield, and more I can't remember because they weren't memorable.

Most recent, last summer the Moody Blues, boy did I have a nostalgia trip, and those geezers could still rile an audience up. Good times.

Just waiting for Steely Dan to do a redo at Ravinia..I'm so there.

If we're talking the first concert I ever wanted to go to then it'd be Pantera on tour for Vulgar Display of Power. The last big one was Street Scene 05 in SD (yeah, the one where the crowd waited an hour and change for the BEP's to start their set and upon finally showing up Fergie gave us the middle finger while pissing herself.) There were a few others after that but none as great.

first memorable one was lollapalooza in 93?
Tool, Primus, Alice in Chains, Fishbone...what more can you ask for?

Dont really have a best one but best moments, wu tang + rage doing a set together, mettalica and kid rock holding a jam session when hetfield was a no show due to crashing jet ski, odb puking and passing out on stage, maynard body slamming a dude who ran on stage, having a "personal show" with about 20 other people and sick of it all

First concert I sortof remember was Fleetwood Mac, but one of the best was Prince when he came with Sheila E. Oh, and Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime was AWESOME. Tori Amos put on a good show. Ozzy was good. Cher/Cyndi Lauper was a trip. Elton John/Billy Joel was great twice. I don't remember the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert but they tell me I was there. ;) Plant/Page was almost holy.

I DJ'd in the late '80's and went to interview Guns-N-Roses when they opened for Motley Crue. They didn't suck. We had a pool going, and the majority thought they would never make it.

Awesome seeing Joe Cocker (one of my favs), with Tina Turner. He played the opening chords to his first song... and I was standing on my chair, holding a lighter, screaming, surounded by the most beautiful transvestites I have ever seen.

The last concert that blew my mind was The Moody Blues. Nothing but fantastic.

Favorite: ZZ Top (couldn't tell you which tour but it was late 90's)

I'm not a concert enthusiast. It's rare I prefer live sound over recorded (although live recordings tend to be fun). I think ticket prices are outrageous. That said, the fun one can have at a concert is pretty over the top....and top off in some cases. The most fun I've had with live music is mostly centered around the college bar scene with cover bands and college bands that drew a crowd. Dave Matthews before they were big...Carbon Leaf, Seven Mary Three and Pat McGee Band. Big Bands that played smaller, cheaper venues like the old Flood Zone.

My first was Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels tour. It wasn't all that great, but the fact that it was my first made it memorable.

My BEST however, was Pink Floyd - Division Bell, early 1994, Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami. We scored really well that night. My best friend at the time was close with a guy who worked at Blockbuster Music (before it was just Video). While the terminals/systems weren't able to actually submit ticket orders until a set time, the guy was able to input everything and hover over the SEND/SUBMIT/ENTER button.

Once the magic hour hit, our ticket order was in. The result; Row 1, Seat 9.

It was me. A fence, 9 feet of distance and David Gilmour.

Unforgettable.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. For shame. Do not anger the Gods of Hair Bands. Offer them praise! Confess! Admit that you saw them! Nelson and E'nuff Z'nuff (Real Thing, right?) are a long way from boy bands and cleverly rode the coat tails of the likes of Poison and other deities, so you're forgiven nonetheless.

I regret that I missed the age of the great hair bands by just a couple of years, and while I do not shed a tear at having missed seeing Nuno Betancourt pulling off yet another swoon-inducing acoustic rendition of More Than Words ... I was able to placate myself with such other redeeming concerts as U2 (Zoo TV), Blind Melon/Lenny Kravitz and The Police (Reunion) and with that, I made peace.

My first concert was Into Eternity opening for Edguy opening for HammerFall. Then the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival when DragonForce played their first US show. The order on this might be mixed up a little, but then Roger Daltrey, Jethro Tull, The Weepies, Manowar (only opener I remember, HolyHell), and Roger Daltrey again on the Tommy tour.

I have 2 tickets to Who's Bad in September that I paid less than $10 for (thanks Sleep Train Mattress Centers for the $50 for liking you on facebook), but I'm not sure that I'm actually going?

First show was Primus opening for Rush, I made my dad take me.
Last show was Atmosphere & Rhymesayers crew. They're from my state, so they always do an extra long and crazy show.

Best show was Nine Inch Nails in '08 for Lights in the Sky tour. Had a bad breakup like a month before. Pushed all the way to the front and center, beat the fuck and got beat the fuck out of. Perfect night.

I'm still pissed at my kid self, I had the opportunity to go see Radiohead for The Bends tour, but I didn't know who they were at the time and passed it up.

RagePriest, I've hung out with Dave a couple times in Malibu. About a decade ago he used to sit up at the plaza, listen to futbol games, and play chess with the locals and homeless folks. Not many people other than the locals recognized him so he didn't get bothered much. I'm sure sure if that is true any longer.

Sounds like a straight-up gent!

Back in the day, before the concert I mentioned earlier but while I was still living in Miami, my best friend had this other friend, who's father was a flight instructor. I was once at the kid's house and saw a picture his father with David Gilmour in some airfield. I find out that he gave him flying lessons.

I'm not going to say that's what inspired Learning to Fly, but... I like to lie to myself and pretend that through the father I never met of the friend I met once of a friend that was close to me about 20 years ago I knew David Gilmour.

Crap. It sounds really pathetic when I type it all out and read it.

First concert, Rush 1997-meh not very memorable. Best, Slash at a small private venue as he rocked out 3 ft away from me.

Significant Other: First concert, Quiet Riot Metal Health tour 1983 and he got the super cool muscle T-shirt with the glow in the dark mask on it! Says he doesn't have a best but front row w/ no barricades at Concrete Blonde in a tiny venue (maybe 1000) was great.

I cross posted this from another thread just cuz it seemed more appropriate in this thread.

It was a great show at Amos's Southend 7/20/12 in Charlotte. We had a table on a balcony overlooking the stage, and even though some hanging speakers blocked our view of stage left, so we didn't see the bass player of any of the three bands, we were nice and close.

Lionize was a nice suprise, evoking early Clutch with passionately delivered bluesy vocals. I enjoyed their keyboard / organs and the drummer looked like a 16 year old black kid and played the hell outta those drums.

Prong was a lil meh. I enjoyed their one song I knew (snap your fingers, snap your neck) but otherwise meh. It doesn't help that their lead singer is one of those guys that demands the audience do ____ on command, and if you don't do ____ he hates you. He was pretty good on guitar though.

Clutch put on one of their best live shows I've ever been to in the half dozen or so times I've seen them. Neil was all over the stage doing his badass rock & roll preaching. The building / balcony shook during Spacegrass when everyone was screaming along JESUS ON THE DASHBOARD.

My very first concert was to Blues Traveler. My mother's absolute favorite band. My step-dad is a badass and he got us up to the very front to watch (while making sure we weren't pummeled by the druggies and drunks behind us). Afterwards we waited out back and met the entire band, had our shirts signed, and John Popper played and signed a harmonica and gave it to me. Best childhood memory ever.

Wow nice bump. My last show was Keller Williams in March last year, and it was extra amazing cause I finally met him that night outside the venue early in the day and I was so blissed out all night and for a few days after. Then Covid cancelled my Vegas run which broke my heart into so many pieces. In March, I had tickets for about 15 shows so far for 2020 that obviously never happened. This fall though, things will start happening again. I cannot wait dude.

Yeah, sometimes, you've just gotta bump some stuff. Necroposting old stuff aint just for the political sub-forum anymore.

15 Vegas shows? Jeez that sounds Epic! Maybe next year. I've seen like 8 or 9 Cirque shows but they were all the traveling ones that go town to town, except the Orlando show. It's always been my assumption that the ones that don't travel are able to do a great deal more with sets and props and whatnot due to not having to pack it up and move it state to state every month. Were the Cirque du Soleil shows the Vegas shows you were planning to see?

Nice! Great line-up. I love that old Alice Cooper, with Love it to Death being my favorite album. I'll bet they put on a great show.

Edit: I got to see Alice Cooper on the co-headlining tour with Zombie in vaguely 2008 or so. Great show still but I would've loved to have been able to see them in the 70s. They played Cold Ethyl and some old stuff but I don't think they managed to fit my favorites Black Juju or I love the dead into the set. Still, they managed to kill Alice on stage like 6 or 7 times during the set, so I guess that makes up for it.

Oh no haha. I only had 3 shows in Vegas, which were originally scheduled for March 19-21 (I think those were the dates). They are Ween shows and have been rescheduled twice now, but this October should definitely happen if things keep on as they have been. By the time Covid cancelled everything, I already had tickets for about 15 shows across a bunch of states that were cancelled or postponed. A lot of Ween shows, but some other bands too.

Cirque is fantastic, though. I saw KA in Vegas back in 2017 when I was there for another Ween run and it was so good that it made me tear up. I loved it. I also saw one that came to Denver a few years ago, and it was pretty cool too.

this is a post i made 2018-08-02 on another board

.

I took the train and my second Uber ever down to Pete's place. The lovely Ethiopian driver made sure I was at the right place when I was foiled by Pete's building's impenetrable security system, then a random lady let me in.

I met his lovely significant other and their dog. I hadn't been domiciled with a dog before, but in this case I found it to be remarkably like toddler if toddlers could sprint way faster than you, were much quieter, and had marginally worse hygiene. We got Chinese food and traded fortunes. Pete asked me which song I hoped for, and I told him my hope was in vain, because the song for me was older and sedate, and so unlikely to make its way into the set list.

I showed up at the venue for the Kina concert as instructed. These instructions turned out to be extremely conservative, so we waited outside for about 40 minutes. I had plenty of sun block on my human skin.

We went inside.

https://imgur.com/3XSDTh9.png

Kina is giving away these pins to all Patreon members who come to a tour date. (After tour she will determine a way to get them to the rest of the patrons.) I couldn't get mine to stand right way up, but foxes are a cunning sort, and the source of this particular fox is a video Kina made that includes the fox doing flips on a trampoline, so that was alright.

The meet and greet was in a hallway, so we were about five across and twenty deep. Kina stood on a chair and sang Heart and Mind to us. She was wearing a simple white T shirt, and the second thing I noticed was how different the fabric looked in life versus on line. The first thing I noticed was that my plan to not get emotional until the show itself started was completely out the window. I have heard her sing candidly many times and the quality of her voice was excellent as always.

I wasn't sure how to stay standing.

I have stood on my human legs many times, and before now it had always been pretty easy to continue standing once I started.

I leaned against a wall.

After the song she met us one by one. I had thought about planning this many times, and it always seemed like a bad idea. I am not good at spoken words. I am pretty good at written words, so I made her a card with sheer white space and candy stripes and Escher's butterflies and lots of words, then tied the envelope with ribbon, then taped the ribbon when I couldn't figure out how to finish it with enough beauty.

My expectation was that she would be amazing and I would be incoherent, and everything was going according to plan. We talk on the Internet a lot, including about my coming to this specific show, and she's seen my face, so I wasn't surprised when she recognized me. I was surprised and concerned when she reached under the table, because my assumption when something goes suddenly off is that I messed up.

https://imgur.com/q6sKOFY.png

I was extremely relieved and laughed out loud. I'm told Pete Herb and Ank (Kina's_agent) conspired to get a Knicks jersey with Grannis on the back and get it to the venue, with a big assist from Sam (Kina's_tour_manager), whereupon Kina signed it and held it for me. This is an amazingly thoughtful gift and I really appreciate it, you guys.

I prefer not to be photographed, so when it was time for Kina and I to take our picture I asked her if we could do this instead:

https://imgur.com/VT9tEHa.png

She said yes.

Then I met Jesse. He was also amazing and I was still incoherent, but I needed to tell him a story about a lyric of his from his song Snow (under the JOME artist name): "My suitcase was heavier than I thought it'd be. / I looked back and caught you crying." This is an amazing lyric, really an amazing short story. Here's a similar if somewhat less amazing short story.
-I have one older and one younger brother.
-We all grew up together.
-He went to college.
-When we dropped him off, he didn't look back.
-When we got home, we sat around the table.
-In the wrong seats.
-My father smiled and observed how he didn't look back.
-My mother wept.

I relayed this story to Jesse (more or less, like I said, incoherent) and he was very appreciative. The JOME artist is a collaboration where he writes the lyrics and sings and another artist does a lot of instrumental work, so it's not something he can reproduce on tour since he and Kina bring one acoustic guitar, one other acoustic guitar, and a keyboard. We agreed he should consider it for future tours.

I was already exhausted and the show wouldn't start for an hour.

Pete arrived just as Jesse started his set. There are a lot of his songs that are intensely emotional for me and I think most humans who have heard them. One is All My Love, which was inspired when a beautiful young YouTube singer named Christina Grimmie was murdered at the meet and greet before a small concert she was performing. This hit very close to home for them. When he said he was about to play a song off All My Love, my heart spiked, but it was a different song. Close call, no emotional issues here, ha ha ha, look at me applauding after the song with my human hands.

Then he played Snow.

Even in ideal circumstances it's extremely emotional for me. The shock factor here did not make it less so, and I started sobbing as quietly as I could. The first time. What I discovered was that if I could look into the guitar hole I still felt safe to express myself emotionally. Eye contact was totally out of the question, but there was a quiet little dark place. And then he played All My Love (song) - sobbing for the second time.

Not all of his set was weepy, and he was very charming with his stage banter, and then he was finished.

The lights came on and Pete and I fell deep in conversation. Then I thought going to the human's room would be a solid idea. A person came in behind me and I heard the crowd cheer through the briefly open door.

https://imgur.com/DKntUq3.png

I made it back before the first song had really gotten going. She turned the lights on and she could see us, and we could see her seeing us. She started with some pleasant songs like Jesse and I thought I was wise to the game, like Jesse there were then going to be sadder songs. I was prepared.

Then she played This Far.

https://imgur.com/sVpsZjR.png

This pouch was full when I left Pete's apartment. If I had been able to see anything at all I would have been alarmed at how rapidly my resources were depleting.

This is my song. It is everything I love and everything I want to become. I have heard her sing it at least ten thousand times, and it has always, always brought me peace in the darkness. Hearing it as she plays it has a slightly different result; sobbing #3.

Then she played Birdsong, which happens to be played on keyboard, and which also happens to be an emotionally catastrophic story of loss, and I found myself thinking 'now here is a remarkable turn of events, with no guitar to look into I am having some relative difficulty getting these inside feelings to the outside, how droll' and I also found myself thinking 'he was so small'.

Then she played a duet with Jesse whose music video recorded them at her sister's wedding, playing the song they wrote about her for her to her, and she was pregnant, so what I'm getting at is it's a real tearjerker, but I was pretty much done crying.

Then she played For Now.

When she was held in Jakarta she overcame the whole world and found gratitude and hope. 'Maybe it's enough to know that we were here together.' Can you find a better epitaph? I've thought about it a lot and there aren't many.

I wasn't done crying.

I had resolved to give a standing ovation of one if necessary, since she had told us it was the last song.

I was sure I wouldn't reach standing, but nobody else did either so that makes us even.

We sat in the light.

.

Much later I realized she is doing the whole thing again tonight.

And Friday.

And for another two months.

E=mc^2 tells us energy is proportional to mass - the bigger the body, the more power. Looks like ol' Einstein better take that one back to the drawing board.

.

Thanks again to Ankly and Herb, and special thanks to Pete and his lovely gal and their moderately attractive pooch. That this happened to be one of the very few (only?) seated venues, and that Pete happened to offer to host me, and that I happened to get hooked into this community at all, and that I happened to come across Kina's music at all, and that all of this aligned precisely when it did is an almost suspiciously unlikely series of coincidences, and I'm so lucky to have benefited so greatly from them.

That's it, thanks for reading!

For those who have any interest in progressive metal, there is an upcoming free live-stream event on Friday March 19th & Saturday March 20th.

Between the Buried and Me playing their Grammy nominated 2018 albums Automata I and II in their entirety.

https://www.betweentheburiedandme.com/image/644202884630806528

Their last live-stream was the best audio quality of any of the half dozen live-streams I watched in 2020, so if you're even remotely into this genre, this is a good one to make time for. My Xbox connectivity is 1GB copper and optical audio output which works out better than than my laptop running line-out to the stereo. Consider that if it's an option for you before struggling with laptop / wireless / head-phone jack audio conversion, which is less than ideal for trying to get good quality audio. But you probably know that. Just sayin.

They'll have event merch up if you want to support the band, and of course you can subscribe to the Twitch channel as well to give them your hard earned money.

If you have an Amazon prime account already you can use it to get a free month of twitch subscription as well.

Yeah alot of metal can be like that. It can take time to get through the layers so to speak.

I was a hard pass on BTBAM the first time, but once I heard that Colors album start to finish I was hooked.

Between the Buried in me 2022 "Human is Hell" tour started last night, I got to see them at the first stop this time instead of the last for a change.

Setlist pulled from the back catalogue, greatest hits, and their current Colors II album. I doubt any BTBAM fan would've been disappointed by it.

The double helix of extinction
Revolution in limbo
Fix the error
Ants of the Sky
Dim Ignition
Famine Wolf
Informal Gluttony
Bad Habits
The future is Behind Us
Condemned to the Gallows
Selkies
------------
Voice of Trespass

Definitely go see these guys, they're still one of the best things going in progressive metal and they're out there giving it their all.

The opening act Car Bomb was an interesting mathcore / metal act that I'm going to need to give some more listens to. Their intent when writing almost seems to be to prevent the listener from falling into a groove with the rhythm. There is definitely rhythm to be had there, it's just constantly changing and shifting (which is not uncommon in progressive metal, for example BTBAM) which presents somewhat of a challenge at first listen. I bought two vinyl records and a beanie to support.

Saw BTBAM again tonite, they included some tracks from their recent Colors II album of course, which played well with the mostly Trivium fans crowd. The Future is Behind us was their closer, and man they sounded great last night, but this track in particular stands out as sounding amazing.

Good times.

The opener Khemmis was pretty good and heavy. Reminded me of Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult a bit but their vocals didn't come through that strong, not sure if the singer just isn't that good or who knows maybe he had a monitor feedback issue going on.

White Chapel was a surprise, I didn't realize they were that heavy. For some reason I thought they were a softer "for the chicks" metal band. Not so much. Pretty heavy, very tight, very good.

Trivium, I stuck around for out of curiosity. I don't like their singer's attitude at times, he's one of those performers who thinks that the audience is there to do his bidding. Do this, do that, meanwhile we payed him to play while he tries to orchestrate us. Band was tight though, they sounded good. Sounded like they didn't miss a note.
