No this isnt about working in retail (although I did that in college and it sucked). This is about how retails stores always seem to be a season ahead.

I hate seeing fall clothing and dorm crap in the mall when it's still June. When I worked at a card store I couldnt stand putting up Christmas ornaments in July. Why, why must they do this?!? It's so annoying...just let me enjoy the summer damnit! :fu:

I don't get it either...

It does seem like each year, the holiday season is starting 2 weeks earlier.

Next thing we know, we're getting ready for the upcoming Xmas in January. :weird:

I hate going into a store in september - october when it's still warm out and seeing no selection of shorts.

WTF.

They do it because it sells. I can tell you, when we put up School items in July (which I'm sure we will be very soon), it sells. People buy Valentines crap in the beginning of January.. and Christmas crap in October. I thought it was silly too, til I noticed it was selling.

That never happens. It's usually out on mark downs til mid November, but then I manage a drug store. It's different everywhere.

For some reason people like to prepare in advance. I don't get it either. Went shopping for clothes yesterday as a matter of fact. Saw the sweaters laid out, WTF?

It's friggin in the 80's outside during the day, there should be NO sweaters for sale!

And the sweaters for sale should be 99% off...
...but we don't live in a retail perfect world.

over the christmas break while I was working at a grocery store I was the backdoor manager (no jokes please). part of my job was to take inventory. I came across all this halloween and thanksgiving shit that I just didn't feel like recording so I marked the prices down and put it out on the rack. go me.

Fall clothing during summer? OH MY GOD WHAT A SHAME.

I GUESS PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO BUY THEIR FALL CLOTHING IN THE FALL INSTEAD OF BEING PREPARED AND ALREADY HAVING THE CLOTHES DURRRRR.

As working in retail, I can honestly say this time of year blows. We're setting up for Back to School, and it's a madhouse during it. I almost thought about renting boxing gloves to the mom's who were fighting for the dime paper folders.

I personally wear the same clothes all year round, so I don't see the big deal.

It's incredibly ridiculous to sell sweaters in June in NJ. Well, I can see having a few out maybe for people who are travelling but not replacing the entire inventory. It's in the 80's....who needs a friggin sweater?
