I feel your pain. I did a little test thing like Artha recommended and this is what it said..

Communications 31 kilobits per second
Storage 3.8 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 4.5 minutes
Subjective rating Slow

:( I don't think it liked me.

I have an advertised 5MB/sec, but I'm on a home network so my bandwidth is sucking dick. It averages out to about 700kb/sec.

Okay I did the Speakeasy test and got something different:

2004-06-25 18:23:10 EST: 459 / 88
Your download speed : 470600 bps, or 459 kbps.
A 57.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 90589 bps, or 88 kbps.

Still slower than most :(

I won't even post my download speed.

I got 2120 kbps, which doesn't really seem right, because everything is so damn slow. Web pages routinely fail, and it might just be WinMX, but I've never seen (sustained) much higher than around 20 kbps.

:)

I'm on a rather large home network though.. so this connection is sucking balls. I have a 1mb/s modem.. and if all the other comps are shut down, i go rather fast online. But I would only consider my computer speed to be average-ish.

<< really? shit, fastest I;ve seen mine go is like... 500 kb/s >>

Don't confuse 500 KB/s with 500 kb/s. The fastest you've seen your connection go, is most likely 500 KB/s.

1k = 1000 = 10^3
1K = 1024 = 2^10

1m = 1000000 = 10^6
1M = 1048576 = 2^20

Also:

1B = 8b

So 1 KB = 1024 B = 8192b which means your internet connection is 3.9 Mb/s, or in other words, you have the second fastest internet connections posted thus far. Xcalibur has you beat just slightly.
