Alright I was discussing this with my sister earlier (and it was a heated debate, a few dishes were thrown) and I thought it was for a couple of reasons. They don't want to "break the magic" by hearing Mickey Mouse talk when it doesn't sound just like him, but then why do the "open face" characters talk? I thought maybe some little kids might be scared to see a character talk without their mouth move, but then again these characters "talk" when they're doing parades and stuff.

I really am curious now and it's driving me crazy because google has probably for the first time failed me. Every website either says "Characters don't talk" no shit I'm wondering why, or "They aren't allowed to talk" again no shit, or they are just talking about tips about what to tell children to explain why they don't talk.

Someone help me, is your google fu stronger than mine? Do you just happen to know the answer? Is Disney this secretive they have purged the internet of the answer?

I can't tell you that, but I can tell you why you don't get laid.

Hint: The two are related.

I don't get laid because theme park characters don't speak? Damn that hardly seems fair.

It would be weird if they talked, because they wouldn't sound like the character.

It would be weird if the "open face" characters didn't talk, not to mention awkward.

Characters don't talk. They aren't allowed to talk. I hope this answers your question.

Why don't theme park characters talk?

...

Because they don't sound Goofy enough.

Mickey doesn't talk much because he likes to listen instead.

...

He is all ears after all.

I think it's because they don't limit the character you play to your sex. IE, Goofy could have a woman inside him, and Minnie could have a guy in her...

...commence dirty Disney character sex jokes.

You know what they say about the size of a mouse's ears ...
