Anyone have one they really like? I realized last night when the power went off that mine is long since expired.. the battery "lasted" about as long as Anticor does.. 2 minutes (or so his wife tells me). I bought it years ago at Best Buy (It's a "Geek Squad" brand...) and now need to get a new on. I need at least 8 outlets on it.

APC all the way IMO. Smart UPS if you can afford it. I like the 1500 series best, but I have a ton of gear on it so it's worth it.
There's a company called Coastal Business Machines I think that does refurbs on old UPS devices if you want to go with a repair. You just pay the flat fee to send it in for repair and it gets a new battery and reconditioning / replacing of any parts.

Just sit that under your desk.

Have you tried removing the plastic shell from your UPS? Sometimes increased airflow will prolong your battery life. Someone at Best Buy told me this and she was wearing a blue shirt so i'm pretty sure it's legit advice.

APC and Cyberpower seems to be the top brands on Newegg. I'll check out Smart UPS... never heard of them.

I used to have an APC but it never seemed to work right. I have a CyberPower one now and it works great, it even does my taxes.

Take this advive, you'll also want to find whatever is suggested in this thread as the appropriate make and model and go ahead and get cheaper so you can add batteries, plugs, and a longer cord to it later. But hey you're saving money right?!

I use this one:

I like it quite a bit and it gives me plenty of time to power down a gaming session. I have these on my DSL modem and one per router/switch:

The goal is to have power through a major outage. I also have one for my garage doors.
But as with all these thread, just go to Best Buy and find a "Geek". They will just throw something in your cart for you and you will then later add another one or more batteries.
We use APC at work. We've had one $30 battery replacement in a little over 4 years of operation.

I've had a Cyberpower 1350AVR for a few years. Nice unit. Maybe it isn't the case anymore, but when I was shopping for a UPS, it seemed APC had much lower Joules ratings on the surge portions of the units. APC is really good stuff though. Owned by Schneider Electric, who also owns Square D (and tons of other brands).
