Can someone explain to me wtf just happened in tonight's episode in the last 5 minutes?

How the fuck did they walk for hours and end up back within 100 yards of the farm? And how did Shane turn into a walker without being bitten/scratched?

I knew Shane was going to die because he is starring in another show next year but how they wrote him out makes no sense to me at all.

THANK YOU. How is he a zombie without being bitten/scratched? How the hell did Carl get there? I am confused.

And that hasn't happened in the two seasons so far...

And edited to add that I just read an interview with one of the writers and they basically confirm that everyone is already infected and the dead people we have seen so far had some kind of 'head trauma' already. That's pretty convenient imo.

That, but it has something to do with an infectious atmosphere, not just a flesh disease.

I'd say they probably were right back by the farm because they were walking straight from the farm, more of a search pattern. Either that or they could have just done a done elapse because showing them walking to the farm for 10 minutes would just be a waste of time.

With all those lame episodes about worrying about Zombie-Sofia, why the hell doesn't anyone keep an eye on Carl? Especially in a zombie world.

I am pretty happy that Shane is gone, though. It's not that I'm against crazy, it's just that I was pretty tired of his brand of crazy.

It's dumb of Shane then to wait to try and kill Rick when they are that close to the farm.

It looked like it had been hours by then. He probably didn't want to have to drag Rick's corpse all the way back to the house if it were a 4 hour hike out.

They were in farm fields yes, but they weren't in the immediate of the farm. Also, they are only loosely following the comic, much better that way.

He didn't see them from the house, he simply followed them. Not sure why people are saying they were near the house, you certainly don't see it.

Wat?

Carl was in the window with binoculars while they were out frolicking in the woods.

During the final scene, they most certainly flash to the house to show you how close they are and how close that walker group is.

Androidpk
03-12-2012, 12:05 PM
Watched that part again, still don't see any conclusive evidence showing that they were close to the house. At one point Rick tells Shane when he gets back to the farm without him no one will believe his story.

Some Rogue

Look over Carl's shoulder after he shoots. You see the house.

But regardless, I think the writing has been kinda sloppy this year and this last episode was one of the worst.

Latrinsorm
03-12-2012, 11:20 PM
We know why Daryl wouldn't get infected after hunting with the same arrows he used to kill walkers: he casually wiped them on his pants in between. Rick never bothered cleaning his weapon after ganking multiple walkers with it, he contaminated Shane, Shane became zombie.

Randall was infected by.. um....... when he cut himself on his cuffs in the previously walker-filled barn. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Also, Carl repeatedly manages to wander off on his own because he is filled with the holy power of terrible writing.

Some Rogue

So supposedly everyone is already infected, making them carriers basically...why does a simple bite or scratch from a walker kill them then??

Gelston
03-12-2012, 11:42 PM
I'm thinking it is an airborne pathogen that isn't an instant killer in and of itself. However, a bite is more concentrated and will do the job.

RSR
03-13-2012, 12:26 AM
You're over thinking it.

There's a virus/plague/whatever that turns anyone who dies into a zombie.

There's an infection/virus/whatever that kills you when you get bitten.

Doesn't have to be the same thing that kills and raises you from the dead.

-Richard.

Roblar
03-13-2012, 05:49 AM
The virus is likely airborne and the survivors are carriers of that strain. They resurrect when they die if the brain is not damaged.

That is why the Center for Disease Control doctor wanted to test their blood. It confirmed what he thought and why suicide for him made more sense. It is also what he likely whispered to the Rick at end of season 1.

The other strain that comes from a bite/scratch to the bloodstream causes fever, death, and reanimation. Carriers aren't necessarily immune from this one.

Basically, kill everyone with head shots or hope the French can develop a cure for survivors, from at least this strain.

What about the people on the highway, dead in their cars? From what you could see, they weren't all shot or damaged in the face/head. Are there some people who aren't carriers and won't rise when they die of non-zombie related reasons?

Shane got up pretty quickly and those two dudes that Rick shot in the bar didn't get back up in the...hours? they hung out in there, hiding from the Other Group?

I love the zombie scenes and I'm looking forward to them destroying people this Sunday but it's hard to just enjoy that with all the plot holes. :(

What plot holes? The dudes that Rick shot in the bar were neither bitten by infected nor did they receive wound to the head. Look at Randall, Shane snapped his neck. Then he proceeded to ram his head into the tree, and that wasn't the first time he has injured his head pretty badly.

In an interview I read, they tried to say that if you go back and watch those scenes, all of the dead in the cars had some kind of head injury and they intentionally did it that way. I really can't be bothered to go back and check it.

One epidemic, you either turn upon death or traumatic head injury. What? Traumatic head injury stops you from being a zombie. What's being posited is that there is a zombifying disease transmitted by ??? and a separate killing disease transmitted by zombie bites.

No, a traumatic head wound to a zombie will kill it. A traumatic head wound to a living person can activate the infection/virus/whatever.

Roblar

Annoying on my phone to multi quote so..

I agree some weak plot points, especially the kid popping up everywhere. But the doctor did mention resurrection event ranged from a few minutes to several hours, it varied in each subject.

Also one dude in the bar was a definite head shot, brain blood all over the mirror. Twas sweet.

Yep, it was mentioned that one of the doctor's last communication with CDC equivalents was with the French one. And maybe if his wife (the director) had stayed alive good ole USA would have figured out a cure, for the living. The zombies being dead just need to be killed, again. Yay!

Also, I don't believe there are two viruses, just one that mutated into airborne transmission but the way of getting it is not fatal. Think Legend. Also, that strain may not have developed at the onset with the people in that cars or they could have died before contracting it. I can't expect EVERY person to get it all at once. Takes months for the flu to go around the world on winds. ;)

Finally, to whoever mentioned Romero and one virus and death from zombie (or anything). The zombie bites that are not immediately fatal cause fever leading to death so definitely more than one strain. Anyway, let us have them finally explain. The writers may mess it up but this world shows so much promise..

I hope its as good as it looks. I really really REALLY hope Rick tells everyone what Dr. Jenner told him in Atlanta. And most importantly, where the hell is Morgan? With Shane gone (much to my dismay) now would be an awesome time to bring him back. The dude who plays him, Lennie James, is a pretty awesome actor.

And I bet either Merl or the guy with his son make a return as part of that 30 man group of bad asses.

I've just been going under the assumption that the zombie bites or scratches aren't really giving a bigger dose of the E. Zombi Virus or anything, it's simply the fact that they are delivering a concentrated dose of rot and decay into the bloodstream, causing a crazy infection and causing the body to turn against itself. I mean that makes sense, right. Right?

I definitely got the impression that the Shane and Rick thing took place about a quarter mile from the house, if that. And I'm with the tired of that damned farmhouse group too. It was a lot more enjoyable with them having to deal with different situations in different places. I can only stand so many episodes of 98% bitching and walking in circles, 2% popping heads. Taking one show's worth of stuff and make it into three.

Celephais
03-14-2012, 08:11 PM
My impression is that zombie infection is pretty widespread now, that it used to not be (highway scene w/ all the dead/non-raised zombies) and that the infection requires a recently living corpse, so that you cannot infect a 3 day old dead body and expect it to rise. The infection is so prevalent now that you can expect just about anyone currently alive to be infected (especially if they've had heavy contact w/ the walkers).

The bites are infectious w/ the zombie strain, but are also teaming with bacteria, kind of like a Komodo dragon bite, so you can expect to die from an otherwise non-fatal wound if you're biten by a zombie.

I found it to be kind of weak for them to all the sudden start introducing this, but I enjoy the show enough not to worry about little holes like this.

From the walking dead wiki. http://walkingdead.wikia.com about the mysterious katana wielder's gender.

Robert Kirkman, while talking online about his wishlist of things in the comic that he would like to see in the TV Series, stated that [this character] was Frank Darabont's favorite character and hopes to introduce her earlier in the show than in the comics.

[I edited the character's name out as a courtesy]

On the virus thing. I try not to over-think it. Its doesn't seem like they're too concerned about realistic science anyway. The zombies don't breathe, don't have functional hearts or lungs but eat....just because.

I can tell you that people rising without a direct bite is consistent to the comics. It also makes more sense as to how the whole country/planet got over-run in the first place. Probably many people succumbed to the airborne and got the ball rolling.

Definitely. Pretty sure the estimated number is over 6,000 deaths per hour world-wide. Even dropping that by a thousand to account for those died with some kind of traumatic brain injury, assuming the infection hit the whole world at basically the same time, we're talking well over a hundred thousand zombies around the world at the end of day 1, NOT including the people that those zombies kill.
