View Full Version : a dark urnon key - unlocks a box every 12 hours

This is a self charging item that opens any normal box regardless of trap or lock difficulty. It does not open things like enruned and such.

Once you use it, it has to charge 12 hours.

Here's an example of my little bard opening a box with no lockpicking skill. He's opened Lost Soul boxes for me with it before.

You remove a dark urnon key from in your deep crimson cape.
>

>unlock my coffer
As you insert your key into the coffer there is a slight flash of light. You can feel the key turn slightly liquid in your grasp, as it molds itself to the lock on the coffer.
You hear a click as it unlocks.
>

>open my coffer
You open a scratched brass coffer.
>get coin
You gather the remaining 1693 coins from inside your brass coffer.
Roundtime: 1 sec.

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the dark urnon key in your hand, and you learn something about it...

This is a small item, under a pound. You tremble and can barely hold onto the dark urnon key. You estimate it must be worth over a hundred million silvers! You can also tell that there is some type of metal in the structure of the dark urnon key.

Loresong says it's worth 100m, so I'll start there and see if there is any interest. This item is valuable because it serves some overpowering purpose, it's just terribly cool.

Just a heads up, don't ever go by Loresong Values to dictate actual value of items...The last one sold for 8mil.

Hmm they release a few of these at droughtmans and they sold for 10 to 15 mil. 100 mil might be reaching a little

I had one of these for a while and it was fun. It had been on my want list for years. Trouble is, other things were on the list too, (can you say coin backpack?). Only downside of these is that you need two free hands (box in one, key in the other). I'm sure you could mitigate that risk in the field with a simple script though.

I think I sold one of these for 6m after droughtman

At 6m I'm a buyer. If anyone has one to sell, let me know. I get a few of these and I don't need a rogue.

I'll bid 6.5mil, if this is turning into an auction.

i believe Everan was suggesting 6M was cheap and rather than sell his that low he would be willing to buy more if anyone was offering to sell one for 6M.

Whoops, didn't realize he was the original poster. Yeah, obviously that's the case, then.

Sorry.

Not to make shits all over this sale or anything, but I just wanted to do the math:

It's a tough sell at 100 million silvers, as the creators of Gemstone also went ahead and stuck NPC locksmiths into the game.

Say the key saves you 1,500 silvers over the NPC locksmith with each box, and you're super fucking on top of using the key, so you get 2 uses per day out of it.

So say 1,500 silvers per box x 2 boxes opened per day = 3,000 silvers

3,000 silvers a day x 365 days = 1,095,000 silvers saved per year

100,000,000 silvers / 1,095,000 silvers saved per year = 91 years to recoup expense

Although, it's fucking urnon. That's 91 years worth of badass, right?

/end sarcasm

I am just still shocked he thinks they go for that much, after myself and a few others mentioned they didn't.

I think he was kidding on the 100m price. That said, I used it for field use in a cap+ area, so my price per box was much higher than 1500 silvers, (probably closer to around 4000). What I really found to be the most beneficial use for it though, was to use it on that one particularly heavy box, so I could stuff those coins in my backpack and keep on hunting. In short, the value is in the convenience, not in having six of these and opening all of your boxes with them.

If you're only getting six boxes per hunt, yes. Fail fail fail!

Well, that's my view. How much is a coin hand worth? Is there some sort of monetary value you can assign to it? I recently sold an ithloss blade to Ardwen for 2m and he has it for sale in his shop for 15m. Did I charge too little or is he charging too much? I had a gem chisel which increased the value of gems. If the only reason you buy the thing is because it increases the value, then you're wasting your money.

Most people use shops as lockers now.

Unfortunately, the reason why most people buy things, is for mechanical reasons. IE: The gem chisel increasing value of gems...

And most value of items, is determined by what people will/have paid for the items previously. In the case of your 1x per 12 hours unlocking key, 6-10million very recently

Do I think it's worth 100m? No, but I wouldn't spend that much on a 10x perfect lance or a 10x heavy padded plate armor either. Clearly, things that are worth a lot to you, may not be worth a lot to me and vice versa. I'm likely to value magical or rare items much more than weapons or armor simply because they don't make that much difference to me. To the best of my knowledge, there are 4 of these keys. There are a heck of a lot more 10x weapons with mystical flares and such. I had mine before Draughtman's and certainly having 2 more added at that time diminished the value of this one. But the fact that those 2 winners decided to sell them low has no effect on their value. I'll bet that the people who picked them up cheap are very unlikely to let them go for what they paid for them. Like I said, if they are, I'm more than willing to buy them.

I picked one up for 6 and sold it for 8. They're just not worth more than that.

Why is this even an issue. He is not in the appraisal folder asking for help. He is advertising something, letting people know it's available and fielding offers. He has the right to ask any price he wants whether anyone of us agree or not. As we all have this right not to pay his price, or send him a private message and try and haggle with him.

We're all guilty of wanting the most for our items, this guy is no different. It's ok to lock your troll in the closet once in awhile, you don't have to always let him take a shit on some unsuspecting poor bastards thread.

Like I said, that's your opinion. In fact, I'll offer 10 for all you can find and offer a quick 25% profit to whoever bought for 8.

Rilstin
02-29-2012, 05:52 PM
Isn't that a 20% profit then?

Regallis

8 mil increases to 10 mil, that is a 25% profit, it is a increase of 20% in total funds.
