This is one of Benitrose's sentient plants from the Ebon Gate Festival that was given away via contests several years ago. Each plant has its own name. This one is called Dionaea. Everyone needs a little plant buddy!

The plant has two states, awake and asleep. It has numerous, different scripts for both states, and its appearance changes slightly between the two.

Asleep:
Perched atop a writhing mass of serpentine roots and corpulent tubers is a small clump of thorn-laden, leafy stalks topped with fleshy, ovaloid crowns. Fern-like fronds curl themselves around a main stem, which sports two connected, kidney-shaped pads tipped with needle-sharp projections. The misshapen head is slightly ajar, allowing a slight glimpse of tender, sarcous tissue covered in long, bristling hairs. Your plant appears thriving in appearance with vibrant lime green coloration. It doesn't seem to be moving.

Awake:
Perched atop a writhing mass of serpentine roots and corpulent tubers is a small clump of thorn-laden, leafy stalks topped with fleshy, ovaloid crowns. Fern-like fronds curl themselves around a main stem, which sports two connected, kidney-shaped pads tipped with needle-sharp projections. The misshapen head is slightly ajar, allowing a slight glimpse of tender, sarcous tissue covered in long, bristling hairs. Your plant appears thriving in appearance with vibrant lime green coloration. It holds an aura of sentience.

TAP wakes it up
You tap your lime green plant, rousing it from dormancy. Your actions evoke a wide yawn from its misshapen head. The plant scratches its main stalk with a single leafy frond before it becomes aware of your presence. The plant undulates at you, its reaction probably is due to its thriving appearance. Probably.

RUB plant puts it to sleep.
You rub a lumpy lime green plant you are holding, relaxing it into dormancy. Your lime green plant slows its movement to a snail's pace until it finally ceases all motion. It rests perfectly still, giving it the illusion of being just like any other plant, albeit strange-looking.

The plants can be fed and watered, which improves their color, vibrancy, and affects what kind of idle scripts you will see.

>water plant with water
You water your plant with a tall mug of cold spring water.

>feed plant to loaf
You hold a sundried tomato and garlic loaf near your lime green plant, its tooth-lined maw slightly ajar. The plant pauses a moment to investigate the nutrients you have brought it by craning its main stalk. Suddenly, the plant's misshapen head splays open like a book and ingests the loaf from your hand, finishing with a satisfied belch. Gross! Plants don't seem to have any manners at all.

Below are some of the scripts when the plant is asleep vs when it is awake. These are a small sample, there are probably around a dozen scripts for each state.

>hug plant
In a show of affection, you cradle your lime green plant's pot in your arms, hugging it tightly.

>tickle plant
You tickle the stalk of your plant. The lime green plant writhes a little.

>kiss plant
You place a tender kiss on your plant's pod-like head. A faint blush creeps along its roots, but nothing else happens.

>listen plant
You hold your plant up to your ear and listen. You hear a noise that sounds like quiet snoring.

>tap plant
You tap your lime green plant, rousing it from dormancy. Your actions evoke a wide yawn from its misshapen head. The plant scratches its main stalk with a single leafy frond before it becomes aware of your presence. The plant undulates at you, its reaction probably is due to its thriving appearance. Probably.

>listen plant
You hold your plant up to your ear and listen. The lime green plant moves closer to your ear and begins humming softly, the melody both beautiful and haunting.

>tickle plant
You tickle the stalk of your plant. The lime green plant emits a high-pitched squeal, akin to giggling.

>kiss plant
You place a tender kiss on your plant's pod-like head. Reciprocating your affection, the lime green plant grabs your face with two leafy fronds and kisses you back!

>poke plant
You give your lime green plant a little poke, and it pokes you right back with a leafy frond.

>poke plant
You give your lime green plant a little poke, and the plant stirs for a moment before resting still.

>stare plant
You stare at your lime green plant. The plant stares back with its eyeless head in a bizarre staring contest. Needless to say, the plant wins.

>pull plant
You pull on one of your lime green plant's roots. The plant scoops up some dirt and throws it in your face!

>slap plant
You raise your hand and slap your plant! How cruel! As soon as the plant recovers from the blow, it raises a frond and slaps you across the face! Let's face it, you deserved that.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

>lick plant
As you lick your lime green plant, it taps you on the forehead with a leaf, as if asking, "Why are you licking me, Giantman?"

These are some of the idle scripts that the plant will do when it is awake and minding its own business.

You hear an odd tapping sound. You glance at your lime green plant to find it playing the rim of its pot like a drum. After its brief solo, the plant takes a bow.

You feel something rubbing against your hand. You glance down and see your plant nuzzling you with its pod-like head. It seems to be purring happily.

A small insect lands on your lime green plant. After a moment of silence, the plant strikes and gulps down the little bug!
