Has anyone else played the demo? It's pretty amazing, although still buggy.
Ken Rolston is executive designer, Todd McFarlane worked on the artwork, and the game universe and lore was written by R.A. Salvatore.

I'm really considering on getting the demo. I do want to get the game just due to what I've read about it so far and that Salvatore did the lore.

i was just flying through the demo it to get the ME 3 items, seemed a lot like fable to me. i guess i expected more of mcfarlane's art to shine out but i dont remember anything impressing me.
Downloaded the demo because of this thread.
Played for a minute. I do like the art direction. Best part are the swords.
Combat action is cool. I like the real time swing/combo/block aspect of it.
While the story, world, and everything look unique I am a little tired of the whole Middle Earth thing.

The combat is what I liked the most. Running in with dual daggers, dash-rolling off to the side and coming up firing a longbow is badass. I'd originally only downloaded the demo for the Mass Effect items but I'll be buying it tomorrow. I'll be able to let you know more how it is in a few days.

I will be playing for the ME3 items. If I like it I may pick it up.

I bought KoA yesterday from gamestop, for the 360.
The Demo was cool, the game is nice indeed. I'm already sporting the DLC finesse pack, but outgrew the daggers already since I bought some at the Inn for a good amount, which are pretty bad ass from what I gather.
I haven't invested in anything much but all Novice Stealth now, and 3 blocks of Detect hidden. Detect hidden is for sure, a must have for any stealth type character I think. So definitely should get that.

I got it for the computer. It seems like WoW with better graphics and single player, as far as look. I do enjoy the combat system though.

lol.. I swear.. I think WoW needs to be removed from the collective memory of every human on the planet.
Only thing I see in common with WoW is that there are graphics, you fight, and use weapons and spells.
graphics maybe be somewhat similar, but thats where it ends really.
Bought it myself from origin, played it some. Didn't get any bonus content.. but you always outgrow that stuff so fast it isnt funny.

I'd say it was WoW-like due to the cartooniness. (New word!)

You outgrew the Dragon Age DLC?

not yet, I mean i didn't bother with pre-ordering for some extra items that I will likely not use.

I actually got the Finesse Bonus Pack, since Microsoft gave me 400 free points.
It's not bad armor for the time being, but I hear you do outgrow it eventually.
I'm sitll wearing it at level 6, but not using the weapon I got anymore since I bought one much better.
I wish this game had a locker/chest/house like Skyrim did, so I can store some items I'd rather like to keep stowed away

Haven't played it yet. What's worse is I haven't played the demo yet, either. I will have to download and play through the demo before I can play the damned game just to ensure I get the ME3 stuff. I've found that when you want to play through games like this at top difficulty settings, the DLC equipment is often quite useful because you have access to it right away. This gives you a bit of extra help in getting past those first few levels until you can effectively hold your own.

Yeah, the ME3 stuff however isn't unlocked until you play the ME3 Demo, which ironically is out Feb 14th heh.
Edit: The ME3 Armor skin etc for KoA that is, isn't unlocked/delivered until you play the ME3 Demo.

There is a house with a storage chest and you can pay to upgrade to add rooms and such. I want to say it's in Gannorac or some damn thing. I'll post it later tonight when I get around to playing.

Awesome D. I haven't gotten a whole lot of play time in yet since I've had a busy work week, and been pushing Gris to level over the weekend but that's good to know

Oh, I don't care about that stuff. I mean playing through the Amalur demo for the ME3 stuff. I own the game and still have to play through the demo because I put it off.

Yeah, I'm confused by the ME3 stuff thru KoA.
Like, by playing the Demo, you unlock stuff FOR ME3, yes?
And when buying the game, you actually unlock later (ME3 Demo) armor IN KoA that is styled after ME3...Right? Least that's how I saw it

I ran through the demo last night. Took about 15 minutes (not counting waiting out the 45 minutes of free play) after skipping all cinematics and conversations. I really don't like the look of the game. It is very cartoony. Extremely jarring after playing something like Skyrim, but hopefully I will get used to it.
What builds are you guys running with in the game? I was thinking about going heavy armor and using mage staves for the AOE attacks.

Right now, I haven't been playing much since I'm hell bent on hitting 25 with my sorcerer.
But I've been playing a Stealth build, with detect hidden as well right now although he's only like level 6. Drigore has I think a level 14 Stealth/Mage he seems to enjoy.

I went for a rogue/arcane build. Rogue's dmg through daggers up front is somewhat weak, so I supplement it with powerful burst dmg.

Yeah, just hit 15th or 16th, got tier 3 of the magic/finesse hybrid with the poison cloud teleport. I have yet to find a really good set of daggers. Using Faeblades as a primary. Switching between chakrams, runestaves, and bows for secondary. I've started running into pure mages that teleport away from you so you kinda sorta need a distance weapon, or the warrior harpoon attack.

I think I might just pick an element and try to get as much possible bonuses stacked into the attack as possible. Does any 1 element seem to have very few creatures immune to it?

I'm doing might/sorcery. Is it just me though, or does the game seem well... Too easy?

I think i'm going to change it up and do the opening again. Go pure Melee build based on pure physical skills. I hate playing stealth builds even though they are pretty much always OP if you build them right.

Stealth doesn't seem to be super OP in this game.
For one, stealth kills can glitch out meaning the NPC you start to kill, moves and you don't even do damage to it.
Secondly, early on it seems pretty hard to sneak up/behind stuff to stealth kill, since alot of things travel in groups.
I'm debating switching to a more Pure Might/Sorcery build. But before I do, I wanna see how stealth does later on I think, with the poison tree and the like I have now
Gelston

might/sorcery is awesome. You can get your damage resistance up REALLY well, and receiving damage will refill your mana so they play together fairly well.

Yeah, the more I play stealth the more I'm not really liking it so much.
The combat system doesn't seem to cater well to stealth builds, since shit is broke like rolling up to a mob, waiting for X to appear, hitting X only to end up just doing a normal attack on it since it likes ot be a glitchy thing, aside from the missed stealth kills by an NPC moving during heh

You only get a special backstab kill while in stealth mode only when you have enough dmg to kill the target.

It took me a little bit to figure out too. Damage highlighted in black is back stab damage, and it does show even when you don't get the special kill.

KoA is on sale on Steam for 33% off this week, and I guess some DLC just came out for it? I'm downloading the demo to try it out, and I just wanted some opinions while I wait on whether or not you guys thought the main game or the expansion was worth it. Meatcritic's user reviews are pretty mixed and the cartoony graphics don't bother me.

It's fun. I haven't completed a lot of the story line quite yet, but it seems like a lot of hack and slash to me. Though, I like the game overall so far.

I just couldn't get into the game. The graphics didn't do it for me and at that point I absolutely had my fill of the limitless quest sandbox theme after putting so many hours into Skyrim. Neither of these complaints are actually detractors in an objective sense, just know what kind of game you're getting into. From what i've read and been told about the DLC it is definitely worth the price of admission. It provides a decent story along with permanent upgrades and unlocks to your character.

Heard about that, sucks for Rhode Island taxpayers as they're most likely going to be on the hook for that $75 million loan.

Rhode Island officially owns the rights to the now-stagnant Amalur franchise.
How bizarre. Check out some screenshots of their upcoming MMO, Kingdoms of Rhode Island:
