Anyone tried making a new char as of late in GS4?

I've got a level 6 rogue, and a level 1 empath I've been toying with and I've come to notice that rats are EXTREAMLY powerful for their age.

They have roughly a 95% chance to hit my empath, and roughly a 75% chance to hit my rogue.

When I mentioned this to a GM friend of mine, he said that Warden ment to make rats that powerful.

Anyone else find it rather annoying that you almost need to get spelled up to hunt at level one?

I don't even want to think about a low level sorcerer walking into there the first time with robes on, unknowingly granting a rat a total attack strenght of over 100. Esh.

I assume that was meant to cut down on scripting.

My ranger handled them well at about 3 or 4. All depends on how you roll it.

That's odd. Are you going to the rats in the catacombs?

They used to have a -10 AS (or was that -10 DS?)

You might want to try ants west of the bank. Not as many of them, but usually noone hunting in there.

They used to have -5 AS, -10 DS. Now they have 34-36 AS, -10 DS.

Boo hoo.

USED too, yes. Now their AS is mid 30's, plus a mid 30's AVD vrs Double leather.

My empath has a 26 DS at level 1 (while in offensive). You can stance dance them, of course. But it seems so lame to actually be afraid to attack in a room with more then one rat, because they will kill you.

Oh well, welcome to the new GS I guess.

Run messages or iron if you want to be safe(r).

I generally script hunt them to 10. Stay in neutral/forward/advanced, and get healing once in awhile, and you're set.

Yeah, they're stronger now. I would think needing to get spelled up before hunting is something you should start doing at lower levels anyway. It shouldn't be a free ride when it comes to killing rats in the catacombs, which is probably why they upped the ante.

Introduces some of the basics of hunting beyond: ATTACK RAT.

Can't say its a bad thing for new players to learn about stance dancing early. They won't wonder why they suck when they can't use the same ATTACK GIANT strategy but end up dying.

You don't need to stance dance, you just need to know that there are more than two stances.

There are more than 2 stances now?

Glad I didn't hit "Post Reply". I basically was going to say the same thing.

Personally, I only use 3. Offensive, Defensive, and Guarded (after I cast)

Yeah, yeah I know. I only use offensive and defensive on purpose. The game mechanics force me into the guarded too.

I use 3. Except when I'm script hunting rats...then I use 1 (advanced/neutral/forward).

Do the tour of the town,
Run a message
You're now lvl 1
Script rats in FORWARD STANCE
You're now lvl 2
Script rats in FORWARD STANCE
Script the answers to the Warrior Thrak's questions
You're now lvl 3
Script rats in FORWARD STANCE
You're now lvl 4
ect
You're now lvl 8

It's not that big a deal. My gnome ranger did this with zero problems self spelled in light leathers.

Just started a rogue in Ta'Vaalor about 4 weeks ago and got him to 6 before heading West to the Landing. The rats were nothing but typical so this has got to be a new thing.

I walked a character there at level 1...it's not that big a deal.

Right now, I'm hunting rats in advanced stance, and haven't been hit yet.
