I have this beautiful old Tolkein calendar with a picture of Smaug standing over an enormous mound of treasure and I have to wonder to myself, how did he get it into that cave?

A name I don't recognize, with a one-line post and links in the sig... I had dismissed this as 'bot' and was just about to move to another thread when I noticed the links were to lich and virilneus.com. How do you join in 2003 and still have only 72 posts??

On topic - That's why they guard their treasure so fiercely. If you had to work that hard to get loot back home, you'd be pissed at thieves too! Do you have any idea how difficult it is to pick up delicate dinnerware with a gigantic, slavering maw? You don't even want to think about individual gold coins.

I thought Smaug just flew into the dwarves treasure trove and took it over. ie get someone else to do the work then claim it for your villainous self.

I saw a story the other day of a guy who smuggled a gun into a jail by hiding it in his ass....how much gold do you think a dragon's ass would hold? Now what if it's also a female?
