View Full Version : Stats and Baseline Training for the Sorcerer

So, my 30 days are upcoming for my guy and in preparation I'd want to get a head start on knowing where I am placing my stats, and what most sorcerers train in for runestaffs.

I'm not for certain how important agility and intuition are for sorcerers, but so far this is what I came up with stat wise for the Half Krolvin, who is in GoS.

At 0:

70 Con
70 Str
70 Dex
50 Agl
75 Dis
85 Aura
85 Log
50 Int
85 Wis
20 Inf

Stat wise, I'd like to keep them somewhat similar, since I'll need Dis for guild work, and some others for GoS related things, although my agility will somewhat take a hit for regen. Logic has to be high, since well, HK suck balls with Logic.

But other than that, could I downgrade maybe Aura and Wis by 10 a piece, and add that 20 to agl perhaps? Or do they look pretty solid as far as most things go. The above also includes the +10 to wis and aura for profession.

Besides stats, what sort of training should I be looking into for a runestaff user?

2x SA, 1x EMC, 1x SMC, 2x HP, 2x Spells, 1x MIU, 1x AS, 1x Lore as a baseline? And add accordingly?

The profession itself is one I never followed much of, aside from the usual stuff so as far as training and stats go, I'm in the unknown, but more so on the stat portion of it all.

I can't really help you with stats. I was just not a number crunching guy. I am sure someone can speak up. Find Tsoran's stat cruncher.

What you really want to think about is what is your image of your sorcerer?

Do you want to be a well rounded sorcerer? Able to use all of the available skills for the profession? Or for Role Playing purposes dabble with Demons or Animate Dead.. or just be a CS powerhouse?

I know with the recent release of Baelfire and the changes with Curse our viability as a bolter is much better than it ever was. That being said our REAL power is STILL our CS spells. Due to the old GS3 days where it was common practice to 3x in sorcerer spell circle for power. The GMs increased the TDs of creatures to make it harder for us. All this did was encourage folks to continue to triple in spells. That dinosaur still exists today in GS4.

So for a typical runestaff build. I suggest the following.

According to the GMs, any class that wishes to carry a runestaff should have at a Minimum of 8 Magical ranks per training.

What is a Magical rank? Magic Item Use, Arcane Symbols, Harness Power, Spells, Lores, Spell aiming, Elemental and Spiritual Mana controls.

1x Harness power (You get 3 mana per train... if you 2x in Harness power.. you only get 1 more mana point... expensive)

1x Magic Item Use
1x Arcane Symbols

2.3x to 2.5x in spell training (We are supposed to be viable at 2x. I will say, with more CS your life will be easier)

2x Spell Aiming (the rule of thumb with this skill is either 2x in it or don't bother training in it at all. This skill helps to reduce the TD penalty of aimed limb disruption. Helps you control focus maelstrom. Improves the effectiveness of your Focused Implosions. And allows you to use wands, cast 111, 118 (with 20 ranks of summoning lore) and 713)

1x Elemental Mana Control
1x Spiritual Mana Control

1x Sorcerer lores (start with Demonology.. get 52 ranks...then switch to Necromancy. 52 Ranks of Demonology provides you with the best Cloak of Shadows Retribution success and the next tier for phase. Please note what lores you chose depends on your vision of your sorcerer. Zhelas is 1.5x in these lores. He has 100 ranks of necro and 52 ranks of Demonology. I personally love the spell 711)

.5x Summon Lores (optional...Zhelas never trained in these until post cap. But you get nice benefits from having it. At 20 ranks 118 becomes web bolting. With the more ranks you have the better chance you have of entangling creatures in your web. Eventually you will be able to locate folks across realms. Reduce your Call Lightning RT and cast the spell inside. The post cap goal I did for Zhelas was to get him 91 ranks)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to think about and not forget to train in.

Armor: 0 ranks to wear robes... 4 Ranks for Full leather... 8 Ranks for double leathers

Physical fitness. work you way up to about 22 to 24 ranks till you get max health. ***You mention GOS.. so 1x in it for life***

Yes there are benefits for training in PF for life. It is a core skill to help you versus combat maneuvers, there is a hidden roll when it comes to swimming and climbing. Reduces stun time. But at a low level our core skills are expensive and you should concentrate on those first. You can be completely viable with 24 ranks of PF till cap. I maxed PF at cap for Zhelas.

Fit Climbing and swiming in when you can... you don't need to have 20 ranks early on. .

Make sure you get your core training done first.
--------------------------
Eventually your core defensive spells will be.

401, 406, 414, 101, 102, 103, 107, 120, 430, 712

You can then get outside spells that will help as well. 714 or scroll infusion is one of our best spells.

Important:

As a sorcerer always make sure the Sorcerer Circle is atleast equal to your current training. If you want to over train in this circle don't go past 20 ranks above your current level till you are capped. Why? You will start to see diminishing returns.

Make sure you have 25 ranks in the Minor Elemental Circle at Level 25. You really will like spell 425.

Don't for get your Minor Spiritual Circle. Spell 120 is a nice spell as well.

Hope this helps

Sure. They're close to what I did. The agi is probably hurting me a bit, but I suppose a fixstat could cure that problem. I don't think I actually realized it was as low as it was, being mostly focused on the training points. Workin fine so far. Nearly 90, afk-huntin with a little over 2x spell training.

Strength (STR): 64
Constitution (CON): 55
Dexterity (DEX): 70
Agility (AGI): 22
Discipline (DIS): 74
Aura (AUR): 77
Logic (LOG): 79
Intuition (INT): 82
Wisdom (WIS): 88
Influence (INF): 49

Awesome, Thanks bud.

My concern was more so agility and or intuition. I think I could drop str however by 10 more if I so wanted and pop that into both, or just agility.

The CON I'd like as is most likely since he is GoS after all

I doubt you'd notice if you moved those 10 points around, no matter which way you slice'em. As far as con goes, I'm in GoS also and with 1x PT @89 I'm sittin on 111 stamina.

Yeah, being a Half Krolvin I wouldn't take a huge hit moving 10 off the strength and adding it to agility, or maybe splitting it between agl and int.
